Great video well presented, could you tell me the distance between fuel stops, how much fuel you consumed, maybe klms per litre?👍🏻 oops should have watched the Mt Dare video first, I had assumed you were travelling Mt Dare to Birdsville 🥴
Thanks! We did mt dare to Oodnadatta without adding fuel. We were running pretty low in the tank by the time we got to Oodnadatta. That stretch was 1066km and we used roughly 135-140L of fuel.
Thank you for all great tips, very refreshing to see real life tips and tricks and not your 'normal' RUclips 'influencer' buy this gadget! BS While I am not doing the Simpson (yet) I am going on Sydney-Perth (and back) trip with my 9-year old and I got a heap of useful tips I am going to use. Awesome tips and tricks! Thank you!
Do you think this trip can be done with 4ppl? 2adults and 2kids in a Hilux?
Yeh it certainly could. If you were to forgo a fridge it would give you a lot more space. I would do a few dummy packs to work out exactly what works in loading the car, will also help you work out what you can do without, what takes up most space etc
Thanks mate. Do you have long range tanks or carry Jerry’s?
We have a long range tank. But also carried a jerry on this trip for backup.
Thanks for sharing. We are heading over there in sept.
Awesome video, just starting to plan my solo Simpson trip.. Note to self Nip cream...😂 Cheers!
Good stuff, thanks
Just great, thanks
Fantastic, really well done, big thanks and all the very best.
The fact you had traction control active while driving in sand, may be the cause of that noise which concerned you. Generally speaking, in all sand driving, I turn the traction control off.
You are correct, we discovered after the fact that the Hilux has two levels of traction control offness, we had only managed to get it half way off basically, we think the noise was most likely the abs pump kicking in
@fastaustralianadventures yeah. Lessons learned are lessons gain. Glad to hear it wasn't terminal
First time I’ve seen your channel, good video. I did think I was looking at Forrest. 😂. I think I’d prefer the 80 series but probably heavier on fuel. Good luck with your next adventure.
Wow, the desert is so so green! Some parts of the track is very overgrown, so I assume there's a fair bit of pinstriping added to the panels. 😲
Yeh definitely get a bit scratched up
Sadly Thuraya satellite now stuffed. A few dodgy people now trying to sell cheap inoperable handsets on marketplaces.
I have one, would you like to buy? 😂
Top video! Did you get much dust ingress in the canopy/draws? Any upgrades to suspension.. Looking at options for my N80 at the moment.. cheers 🍻
Thanks, we get almost zero dust in the canopy, we use the canopy pressure vents which work great in keeping it out. We have a 50mm lift & GVM upgrade using the Ironman foam cell pro
About to do it alone in my Ranger in 3 weeks time. Have been across the Simpson a few times Great video.
Cheers
Wow. Great video. That section at 17" ish looked crazy!
A VERY HELPFUL VIDEO.HAPPY TRAVELS TO YOU BOTH..THANKS😊
Thank you!
Its not a remote track,
Remote - definition from the Oxford dictionary - “situated far from the main centres of population” Maree at the southern end of the track is 655km from the nearest major city. Track - it’s literally called the Birdsville track. So 1 it’s remote & 2 it’s a track.
how long did the road take mate? About to ride it on a moto.
you answered my question! gotcha.
It’s an absolutely stunning road!
A bit slack you did not show the blase tree at camp 16.Fast Australian Adventures alright.
Thanks for watching
A bit slack that you dont mention the madigan camp numbers as you go past each & show the markers.
Thanks for watching
A few good suggestions here. I really like that you stressed the importance of a PLB. Some people lately have been saying they have an SOS option on their new IPhone so don’t need a PLB. But at the end of the day a PLB will work once all your other communications options run flat.
Thanks Gary! The iPhone is a great backup but certainly shouldn’t be anyone’s no1 emergency item in the super remote. We have the satphone as well but for us the plb is definitely our number 1 safety requirement.
If you should desire, move as much weight as possible toward the front of the vehicle (within reason) water is best carried in the centre, if you have a twin cab remove the rear seat and secure your water containers there. Ideally the rear tyre pressure should be about 8 psi minimum above the front, usually more, if you have a lot of weight over or behind the rear wheels with the wrong tyre pressure you will be riding a bucking bronc, as you experienced, or you could spend a kings ransom on a suspension upgrade, enjoyed your video, thanks 😊
Check out our other vids and you’ll see how we packed the car.
Where did you buy the climbing anchors from? I've googled them and all were a lot more than $2. Good info in your vid.
I got them from Adventure Base in a Katoomba, and my memory was a bit off, they were $5 each.
Tip - instead of chamois cream for sore nipples, nappy rash cream does the job just as well IMO, as well as being more readily available.
Love seeing the wilderness guys.
Looks like you’ve been ship wrecked 😂 ya lost your razor 😂 awesome road trip enjoyed the video 👍🏻
A few weeks of taking delivery of our new Hilux, how much extra space do you gain removing the back seats? We're trying to plan ahead 👍
At a guess I’d say 30cm extra possibly even more because there’s the seat back plus a lot of wasted space behind
@@fastaustralianadventures awesome that's significant. Thanks 👍
What a great episode epic footage
Thank you!
Copley Service Centre 😂 Last time we were stuck there it took 3 days to even get somebody to look at our trailer. The bloke running it was a little volatile and apparently had a thing for throwing hammers when he got annoyed! 😬
We were pretty lucky, while it took a while for the fix, the mechanic there couldn’t have been nicer.
I was thinking about loose stuff in our camper...maybe some of those bags will be worthwhile. Thanks for taking the time to walk us through that. Very informative.
Those are our tracks heading down the Colson track 30/4/23, it was slow going 1st and 2nd almost the whole length down to the French line.
We went past Colson on 23/4 so just before you went down.
I did it in 1989. Scared shitless. 2 dogs in car. Dogs sunkn in quicksand Deddick river.
That must have been unpleasant.
great vid guys... and the star appears on screen at 8.26 I see!!!
Cheers mate! Yep he came along to be a pest 😂
@@fastaustralianadventures - both of ours do the same.
Just finished watching the series and then this video popped up :). Great video, keen to get through the rest!
Thank you!
Awesome trip guys!!! What’s your opinion in doing the Simpson in late October from experience Cheers
Thank you! We did Poeppel corner last year in October. It was so unpleasantly hot instead of doing it over two days we did it in one. You could be lucky with weather though.
Another great video guys, awesome scenery. Keep the content coming 👌🇦🇺
Thanks mate!
Well that sucks
‘sup?,how excellent masterpiece! 📽
Nice episode -congrat…..
How much fuel did you guys use from my dare and around to Dalhousie vi madigan and hay river tracks.
From Mt Dare to Oodnadatta we used about 140L not sure exactly what it would have been to Dalhousie but prob around 125L
@@fastaustralianadventures many thanks for that. My brothers and I are doing the trip late this month but following madigan all the way to waa line and to Birdsville for cup races. It’s always good to talk to people who have been doing a trip like this. We are in Toyota Prado and dmax. Cheers
Hope you have an awesome trip!
@@fastaustralianadventures thanks. Sure we will.
COOL
Great video guys 👌🍻
Thank you!
Spectacular country, great drone shots.
It’s a cracking place, well worth a visit if your ever within 1000km of it.
Excellent seeing the different camera angles👍
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!
Well done👍👍
Thank you 👍
You certainly didn’t stop to smell the roses. Makes me glad I’m a pensioner in no hurry. If you see me on the road go around me coz I’m not in a hurry.
We usually have pretty limited time so for us the journey is the destination.
Mate.... I thought Bourke to Fort Grey was a big day's driving. And you did it with children.
We were definitely flogged by the end. The kids are used to it though, the kids settle in to the grind, they’ve done enough long days, while there’s a lot of “are we there yet” they usually just suck it up and deal with it luckily.
Loving the vids guys 👍 Rough idea on L/100km? Planning on going late September. Cheers
Thank you! Don't have exact breakdowns but From Mt Dare to Hay river track by Madigan We averaged 12.9L By the time we hit Dalhousie it had pushed up to 13.9L (i think seems i neglected to record it exactly) For our whole trip between Mt Dare & Oodnadatta we did 13.1L for the 1100km (inconsistency between gps & car so not 100% sure on distance) but it was roughly 135L total used
Awesome mate! Great info!! Cheers
