Ive been writing a fanfiction with addiction as a major theme recently. I have no personal experience with it, but songs like this one help me understand the mindset that a person with addiction would be in. I personally have ASD and emotions are a difficult thing for me, but songs help me quite a lot in this regard.

We can recover at one step at a time. Iam in recovery myself clean and sober for 18 months. We don't kill ourselves we kill the people who love us thay suffer more than the addict. My partner is in detox at the moment so I've been on both sides and believe me I've never thought how selfish and nasty I was until now. We must do it for ourselves first then do it for the people we love. Live not easy though it alot easier than when I was using.

Sometimes life dosent have a happy ending . It's not a fairy tale like they teach you when your a kid . You grow up and see that the world is shit , people are shit they use and abuse you then that cause you to relapse . You fall in love just to have your heart broken time and time again . You wonder when things are going to get better and it dosent matter what you do because there always watching all eyes on you 24/7 . You really just want it all to fucking end . The system say therapy is the answer but you know that there just paid to listen in . So you lose hope . You lose hope in humanity , in people in love in family. You have yourself on this fucked up planet and that's it .

The best Christmas gift I gave to my loved ones and to myself was getting sober from opioid addiction. The withdrawal is horrifying, and I will NEVER turn back.
