50 to 1 is based on the inspiring true story of long shot racehorse Mine That Bird's journey and triumph at the 2009 Kentucky Derby. Mine That Bird is owned by New Mexicans Mark Allen and Dr. Leonard Blach and was trained by Chip Woolley.
50 to 1 stars Skeet Ulrich, Christian Kane, William Devane, Madelyn Deutch, Todd Lowe and three-time Kentucky Derby winning jockey Calvin Borel.
The film follows the humorous adventures of a small, crooked-footed horse and his cowboy owners and trainer, who take to the highway in an unlikely bid to win America's premier horse race, the Kentucky Derby. Calvin Borail! ❤ Mine that bird! ❤ Sometimes the planets align. Id give anything just to meet the Rider for one moment. I will never, not ever, forget the day we all understood what mine that bird meant. It was as if calvin floated weightless, and horse and man became ethereal as one . Pure magic. What a blessing to have witnessed. ❤ It is 2024 today. September 2024 to be exact. I will be back for the rest of my days. God bless the beasts and the children. God bless calvin and mine that bird. My favorite jockey ever. I had a double sawbuck on Mine That Bird. Never forget that race. What a race!
Calvin Bo-Rail. One of the finest, most intelligent jockeys to ever swing a leg over a racehorse. It's like he gets into the mind of the horse he's riding and they talk about how they'll do their part to win. Calvin is also funny. Playing himself and then having to switch into playing a character couldn't have been easy, but he did so well! Calvin and Bird ran an exceptional race. I'll never forget that day even if I was watching on my tv at home. I have the movie 50-1 and watch it when I need a pick me up. It always makes me happy.

I would love to see this movie, or buy it and add to my movie collection. You see, I grew up on Upper Nicola reserve, my dad Billy McLeod owned ranch hay fields. So my play mates were horses, as I was an only child. Mom had me late in her life.

I was disappointed in how silly the movie was. I felt the people involved and the horse deserved a more dignified story presentation. The silliness between the girl Alex and Chip was unnecessary. And they weren't very kind to Bob Baffert's likeness or his personality. There was no need to have that character in the movie. And I get so tired of people that make horse movies that think that horses make horse noises constantly, whinny here, whinny there. Doesn't happen.
In a "50 to 1" scene, a gentleman during the Pre-Derby party said ´this year we have horses fron Ireland, France, United Arab Emirates and even fron New Mexico' You know who opened that door? Venezuelans Gustavo Avila (jockey) Juan Arias (trainer) Pedro Baptista (owner) and Juan Quintero (groom) when in 1971 they traveld to Lousville to win 97th. Kentucky Derby with Canonero II, a horse born in United States and bred in Venezuela. It was a very similar Mine That Bird´s performance.
