How to Stop Medical Trauma & Anxiety: Patient Guide
Thank you for taking the time to comment. I’m trying to educate the public about chronic illnesses & chronic pain.
❤❤ thank you for posting this and bringing light to this massive issue
💜
Chronic musculoskeletal pain is now a leading cause of disability worldwide, with the disability burden predicted to grow exponentially in the next 2 decades, placing unsustainable strain on health systems. (Moseley 2023) Moseley, himself wrote the excellent chapter on pain in the equally excellent 4th edition of the text Clinical Sport Medicine(2012). Here are some Moseley excerpts: “Trigger points are present in all patients with chronic pain and are thought to reflect sensitization of nociceptive processing in the central nervous system… Patients with active trigger points present with persistent regional pain… These patterns clearly reflect central convergence of peripheral inputs, which further implicates the central nervous system in their generation and contribution to a pain state.” Moseley GL. Pain: why and how does it hurt? Brukner & Kahn’s Clinical Sports Medicine. North Ryde, NSW: McGraw-Hill Australia Pty Ltd; 2012 "elimination of myofascial trigger points is an important component of the management of chronic musculoskeletal pain” and “we have found ischemic compression and dry needling to be the most effective" More than 100 million adults in the United States have chronic pain conditions, costing more than $500 billion annually in medical care and lost productivity. They are the most common reason for seeking health care, for disability and addiction, and the highest driver of health care costs. Myofascial pain is the most common condition causing chronic pain and can be diagnosed through identifying clinical characteristics and muscle palpation. Management is focused on integrating patient training in changing lifestyle risk factors with evidence-based treatment. Understanding the cause, diagnosis, and management of myopain conditions will help prevent the impact of chronic pain. Yup! Like with RA people think you can’t have arthritis until you’re older. They don’t understand it’s an autoimmune disease that can affect you, young or old.
Exactly! That’s why I’m trying to teach the public that diseases, syndromes, and injuries can happen to anyone at any age.
I hear about this all the time - the public just don’t seem to get that young people still face health challenges.
That's about as accurate as you can say it
Diagnosed with SLE lupus Nephritis class 3 and 5 three years ago. Though im looking much better and the Nephritis is better, the SLE is still kicking my butt and im still on prednisone and many other medications and an infusion. The coment that gets me the most is "you're too young". It feels dismissive and like they dont belive me. I know that they have sympathy, but it still sucks to hear. Like, yes, im 24, and im not living like a 24 year old should. Im not getting to experience my youth like i wish i could. Hiking and traveling are near impossible without great pains.
I know many people living with lupus so I know the challenges you live with. The interesting thing is most of them were diagnosed in their teens and twenties like you were. They also hear the “you’re too young” line. That’s why I’m trying to educate the public that not all health challenges are visible. I’ll also be doing one about how diseases & syndromes can occur at any point in life.
Similar to “ singing a song” to yourself, you enjoy it and it makes you happy.
Exactly! 🎶 is a great mood booster.
Imagine that Wall, some people talk to themselves!😅
👌😉
Thanks so much for saying this. I'm trying to negotiate more work from home time, but because I have an invisible disability and chronic pain, HR don't believe me or my Dr. and specialist letters😢
Unfortunately you’re experiencing an all too common problem In trying to work with an invisible disability. It’s a tough situation when your employer isn’t helping to accommodate your documented health requirements. On my RUclips channel Unwinding Pain where I present evidence-based free strategies to improve your quality of life I have a video covering this topic. It’s “How to Discuss Chronic Pain in Your Life.” I present some strategies to help create a supportive work environment that many people have found helpful. I hope you can successfully resolve your work environment difficulties.
Amazing advice!!!
Glad you found it useful - and thank you for taking the time to comment❤
not gonna lie that sounds exhausting, pains exhausting enough hah
I know what you mean about it sounding too exhausting having to act as a relationship detective. The aches and agony of chronic pain are draining, but better to screen carefully than end up with someone who doesn’t understand your daily reality. 👌😉
that IS pretty cool 😮

Wow that’s really interesting. That makes me wonder how things opium were discovered.
Thank you for taking the time to comment❤️ Opium was first discovered and used by ancient civilizations, with the earliest clear evidence dating back to around 3400 BCE in Mesopotamia. The Sumerians referred to the opium poppy as the “joy plant” and were known to cultivate it. The use of opium then spread through ancient civilizations. The Greeks and Romans used it medicinally from around 800 BCE. During the 18th and 19th century opium trade made several prominent British and American families wealthy. Many of the opium merchants used profits to fund philanthropic ventures and institutions including: universities (parts of Harvard), hospitals, cultural institutions, and railroad development. Opium trade operated legally at the time though the ethics were debated even then.

Thank you for commenting. The body has amazing ways let us know we’re under stress doesn’t it?
Sore jaw
@@elsab.5397 Thank you for leaving a comment. Sore jaws really are uncomfortable. Many people end up with aching in the jaw area from clenching or grinding their teeth due to stress. They often get relief from wearing a dental device called a splint or guard that relieves the pressure on the jaw joint. Dentists can make a custom one plus they sell an over the counter one in drug stores that’s inexpensive which people find very affordable and helpful.
Bizarre dreams. Cold extremities. Functional Neurological Disorder, kind of an extreme version of eye twitch
Thank you for leaving a comment. Isn’t it amazing what stress does to the body? Once identifying these symptoms as stress related, taking a walk, listening to favorite music, or chatting with a friend it’s possible to relieve these stress induced symptoms.
All of the above.
Moi aussi. Me too.
I’m glad your doctor is providing you with the guidance and treatment that’s appropriate for your pain condition.
I'm still young and have no chronic pain, yet. But I broke some toes in High School gymnastics and they only bother me with weather changes, not necessarily temperature changes, but yes, storms! 😂
More stand-up comedy and satire... less news🎉🙌

Thank you for your kind words! On my new Unwinding Pain channel, I’m working to expand beyond Western medicine to showcase diverse healing traditions. As an herbalist, you understand the value of incorporating time-tested natural remedy approaches. I’d love to hear your insights.

Thank you for the positive feedback! Here are some effective strategies to help with nighttime heartburn: 1. Avoid lying down for 2-3 hours after eating - this gives your food time to digest and helps prevent acid reflux 2. Try elevating the head of your bed by 6-8 inches using bed risers or blocks (using extra pillows isn’t as effective since they can slip) 3. Consider having your last meal earlier in the evening 4. Common trigger foods to avoid in the evening besides citrus include chocolate, spicy foods, tomato-based foods, mint, and fatty fried foods 5. Some people find chewing sugar-free gum after dinner helps increase saliva production, which can neutralize acid. It’s worth discussing with your healthcare provider if you can’t get any relief.
Hello there! I love your tips! Any insights about heartburn when your stomach is empty? It goes away if/when I eat; fine during the day, but a nightmare for the night. Thank you
Thank you for sharing your struggle with your nerve pain - not knowing the cause makes this journey especially difficult. While I can’t provide medical answers, I’m committed to sharing evidence-based information that might make your days a bit easier. I’m so glad you’re working with your doctor and staying connected to reliable resources❤
She told me that the treatment is the same, regardless of the cause.
I don't know why i endure what i endure : i never had serious accidents. Ok, i had surgery but this problem is also not written in the possible risks paper ans the pain did come right away.. so still in doubt
It’s understandable as you’re preparing for a colonoscopy that your body is in flux. I believe prepping for a colonoscopy is universally uncomfortable for everyone. The fact you’re living with a pain condition creates a heightened probability of increased discomfort as you prepare for Thursday’s appointment. Good luck, please let me know how it goes.
@@UnwindingPain-t1m Thanks for your support and we'll do
I guess it's like the old saying i You take two steps forward and sometimes you gotta take one step back
They say healing is non-linear. Typically it involves ups and downs. Periods of improvements followed by temporary setbacks. Plateaus where progress seems stalled and then some improvements after periods of little change. Basically, good days and bad days throughout the process
I'm gonna have a colonoscopy done on me, iThursday and I've been noticing little flare up signs other than that good day that I had on Saturday.. started getting a gut response n a lot of facial pain and I think that's just normal probably because I'm a little anxious. It's not like I haven't had done before last year i had it done. I know how it works. But they wanted to do a repeat because they found something or could be nothing. They said that'probably my tms working on me. .
Thank you for sharing❤ It’s wonderful that your partner advocates for you. Being dismissed by doctors is such a painful and unfortunately common experience for those of us with chronic illness. Having supportive partners and allies who stand up for us and ensure our voices are heard makes such a difference - it’s often what gets us through those difficult appointments. No one should ever be made to feel like a burden when seeking care. Your comment helps others feel less alone in the struggle.
I can only go to the doctor if my partner is with me. I’ve spent my entire life sickly and the only reason any of it is truly getting addressed is because he yells at medical professionals who dismiss me out of hand. I’ve spent years being dismissed and treated as little more than a burden on a doctor’s valuable time. A number, an insurance policy. But my partner stands up for me when I can’t stand up for myself.
I hear your frustration and pain - these constant nerve symptoms can feel completely overwhelming. Well I know you’re working with your doctor, which is so important, please remember you’re not alone in this struggle. Our community here understands what you’re going through. it’s for pain warriors like you that I remain committed to creating these evidence-based videos filled with hope and practical solutions. Your strength in the face of such challenges inspires me to keep sharing helpful resources.
Have a good one for you, I was having a really good day, I went out and about with my family. Today was having a good day I didn't think about the pain, I didn't think about anything. I come home and I noticed that I'm not having any kind of facial or jaw pain or anywhere else for that matter. And then all of a sudden, it's like it feels too weird for me. It's like it's in some kind of strange way. I kind of wanted to pain back. I guess cause it's Unfamiliar..???did you ever experience this in your recovery??
First of all I want to congratulate you on having a good day. Having a sense of comfort without the pain messages pounding in your head is a big win but from what you’ve shared over the weeks you’re not accustom to this kind of comfort. The mind is an amazing organ, always seeking balance. If your body is usually in pain then that’s your brain’s normal existence. You’ve got to teach it the new normal by celebrating when the pain volume goes down. I went through that phase as my pain finally started fading. I had to practice labeling my more comfortable existence as my “new normal. Over time that need disappeared as my body adjusted to the silenced pain messages.
@@RUDEMASTER First of all I want to congratulate you on having a good day. From what you’ve shared over the weeks it’s unusual for your pain volume to be turned down. The brain is a funny organ, it gets used to the balance of existing with a high volume of pain. When my pain finally started to fade, I had to make a point of labeling my more comfortable state as my “new normal.” Overtime my brain adjusted to not having the pain messages surge throughout my body. By celebrating your more comfortable days, you’re teaching your brain that that’s the way you want to live. This is positive neuroplasticity in action.
@@UnwindingPain-t1m Thank you so much
Lady, stop yapping. Im tryna watch skibidi toilet.
I can sense how challenging and frustrating your situation is. For someone dealing with chronic nerve pain for 12 years, the emotional weight of your struggle must be immense. You have shared that you are working with a doctor who has many years experience treating your condition. I am glad you have an experienced and respected doctor who knows your history and condition well. I know that doesn’t make the ongoing pain any easier to bear, but having a trusted medical partner in your corner is important for this difficult journey.

@@UnwindingPain-t1m one friend told me i am looking good. The disease is invisible..
@ Many people with chronic pain hear that all the time since “personal suffering” isn’t visible. The most popular RUclips I uploaded is the one about invisible disabilities. Close to 5,000 people have seen it.
@@UnwindingPain-t1m that's a crazy disease. I don't know how it is possible not to get crazy with it ?
