That Dyno sounds like it is running about 10% high on the HP ratings.. Reason being that I have never seen a stock FJ1200, even an almost new one with 2-3k miles on it and broken in, ever showing more than about 101-2 hp at the wheel. I still own all the original UK and US tests on these bikes, covering all three Gens of the FJ1200, and the also the FJ1100. I have personally owned 4 FJ1200`s myself, and covering all three Gens. The torque figure sounds about right at approx 74ft/lbs. They are great bikes, and almost bulletproof. The last one I owned only had 22k miles on it and had never seen rain !! A lovely red and white `86 model, the prettiest of all the FJ`s. But I think the best one is the later 3CV model, like the one you have. I had the same one when I lived in the US, and my brother owned a similar one in Ireland. I am currently riding a 2001 first Gen FZS1000, and it only has 13k miles on it !! This is my fourth Fazer, and I love these bikes. Been riding since the early seventies and still going strong. I am a big Yamaha fan. Cheers mate.

I have an all original 1989 model which I bought new. It has been a fantastic motorcycle and I agree completely with your pros and cons. Tremendous power especially rolling on the throttle at 100 km/h in 5th gear. Fantastic for passing without downshifting. My shed is small and it is challenging to move the FJ around. I bought a motorcycle jack, which allows me to manoeuver it with ease. Happy riding!

Why putting bigger main jets if you are already too rich ?? And if your plugs are not the same color you should sync the carbs and work with the fuel mixture screws to have all the fourth the same color .And only after that you could try different needle settings for the air filter . With stock exhaust absolutely no need to put bigger main jets .

I loved my 89 fj1200 3cv, midnight blue and gold. I put an fzr 1000 exup rear wheel on it and progressive front fork springs, that made it handle sooooo much better. I also fitted Dyna ignition coils, iridium spark plugs and a K&N standard air filter, on pressing the start button the starter motor would just make a hic sound and the engine would instantly fire up, every time. Nice work. I'm impressed. That tape idea is brilliant! It'd be fun watching me just remove a wheel. The vid would last 40 mins and be full of roaring and swearing and end up with me covered in sweat and chain loob as it's my pet hate, especially as bikes now don't have centre stands. I guess the job is much easier with a single disc but then again at least two thirds of tyre changes are rears. Tip: It's worth asking if your local tyre depot (cars) will fit tyres to loose wheels. Mine does it for a tenner as opposed to £30 at bike shops.

Yamaha geeft hiervoor aan 250 mm HG als de motor stationair loopt. De cilinders mogen onderling 10mm HG afwijken. Dit is een nauwkeurig werkje...

These bikes sure do have a bullet proof engine, I have a 1990 FJ1200 3cv and I've done 130,000 miles and it's still going strong, the Achilles Heel on these bikes is the suspension linkage bearings not due to bad design just that they're a pig to get to, re-grease e every 15,000 miles or they tend to seize and could snap the linkages arms causing a nasty accident

I was doing 2 gear hole shots , had missed second gear a few times over reeving , no wonder it wouldn't stay in 2 gear , of course I can tear up an anvil , u can replace gears and still have the problem , but can't trust any one unless you watch what there doing

After 100000 km with the bike... poors: -the plastik parts getting old and breaking like glass -the rubber parts are getting old and breaking -the rear swingarm deflection (Umlenkung) getting rusty and broken (bearings) -the valve stem seal are getting hard and old an leaking (1l Oil/1000km) -95% off all bikes on Ebay are not worth of money!!! For 1€ you invest, you got 20 Cents more worth of money... 🤑

Suggestion: Remove disk brake from wheel. I once made the dumb mistake of putting too much pressure on disk & it ended up warped. Had to purchase a new disk rotor. Love the FJ12 ! Have one of my own.

R1 brake callipers are a common upgrade on these bikes, also corbin seats are the best imho. apart from some defects in the plastic parts, it seems you have found a very nice FJ. Hope you have lots of fun with it! :D

Hello Tjorben, thanks for your comment. Yes its sad from the plastic parts, but it's something where you can't go around, its a motorcycle from 30 years old and used ;) Maybe I can still find good replacement parts. Something for later.

@@teachingrtechnics8051 I am thinking very strongly about getting this bike as its a great classic great power and comfortable. I take its mostly E10 fuel on The European mainland how? How does this bike run on that stuff? Is there any issue with it?
