    Good price?!? lmao! I see them go for 40 all the time and that's a fair price. I had one 20 years ago and about 13 years ago, went to college for the science of electrical/electronics engineering. I can build a modern high end arduino for less than $20, load it with open source guitar effects and it will mop the floor with this dinosaur.

    I had one when I played in coverbands a lot - 2005 tot 2010 roughly. They actually were cheaper new than what they go for nowadays... 🤣 It was quite amazing! I ran my guitar rig together in a rack with my keyboard mixer. From there I ran 2 DIs to the FOH mixer and one to a keyboard amp on stage. I've always had great sounds from it, plenty of options to even do without any additional FX pedals - all was programmed into the V-Amp Pro. In hindsight I should've held onto it, as it would be really useful in recording situations as well - these rackmount units did pretty much everything I'd ask from gear I'd have to borrow, like HX Stomp, Kemper, AxeFX etc etc....

Then I did kinda like you and wrapped some 1500 grit sandpaper around a pen and gave them a light sand, and then rubbed down the scallops and frets with some 000 steel wool, soaked in Dunlop lemon oil, which is what I already use on the rest of the fretboard periodically, so it came out looking like it was made that way. What do you get the action down to at the 12th fret, and played clean, is there any rattle anywhere on the fretboard?

    • @IshredGuitar
      @IshredGuitar 3 месяца назад

      I set the action height at the 12th fret just over credit card thickness around 0.80 to 0.85mm right now on my 521 its at 0.76mm it will vary slightly from guitar to guitar but 1mm will work as well. Its all depending on the engineering dynamic of the way a neck is attached to the body of the guitar. In my humble opinion most players have too much relief at the 12th fret their action is is way too high. I prefer around the exact same at the 22nd or 24th fret the distance from the top of the string is 0.76mm to 1mm depending on personal preference. The angles of the frets being "tiered" back from the 22-16 fret makes up for the concave relief distance of at the 12th fret by a factor of 50%. It basically levels the fret plane from the 12 fret down to 22nd fret therefore removes half the concave distance. If you have a concave neck the frets are not actually level at all from an engineering stand point within this distance from 12th to 22nd. Bottom line without doing anything to the frets, the whole neck being concaved from end to end creates a pitch on the last 7 frets up in degree when you apply pressure to play a note from the 10th fret down. This procedure reduces that by a factor of around 50%. Most electric guitars are engineered for 9-42 strings, also design to be in 440 tuning. There should be no buzzing or rattling anywhere but also the tremolo's have to be set perfect, and the saddles radius convex should match the fretboard convex and be over the fret of the concave by these distances give or take minuts 0.76-1mm low E 1.5mm A string, D and G should be the top dome slightly higher, B string 1.5mm high E 0.76mm - 1mm when you tune down half step to Eb you'll get a hint of rattling but it still should be staying solid resonance, sustain and clear of buzzing. You can start at these measurements and move the action up in little increments of you prefer slightly higher action. I record all my tracks when the temperature is 60-65 degrees because humidity and temperature also effect overall guitar tone. In my experience recording all these years I have found the electric guitar has better tone, resonance, sustain and response the lower the temperature, again 60-68 degree studio does wonders! If you're playing a venue that's warmer you'll need to raise your action a little. Or better yet use certain guitars for warmer venues that's already got the action set higher, cooler venues use guitars that have lower action. It works out because in cooler not only does the guitar respond better you'll appreciate the lower action, in warmer venues have the higher action won't be a problem and you get better tone with all the things I mentioned above.

    • @1man1guitarletsgo
      @1man1guitarletsgo 3 месяца назад

      @@IshredGuitar Thank you. I agree with your comments about relief and the last few frets pitching up. 1mm is very low, so 0.76mm is astonishing!

    • @IshredGuitar
      @IshredGuitar 3 месяца назад

      @@1man1guitarletsgo Thanks! Yes they do pitch up, when you hold the guitar up into the air and you look down the fret ends concentrating on the 22nd fret hold it up into a room light you can see how they pitch up, it's not much but this is what keeps you from achieving super low action as you'll get buzzing issues at the 10 fret on the B and E strings. Usually around the 10th fret towards the 16th fret. After you tier level the 6 frets you're able to get that action at its very lowest and at the same time you totally eliminate buzzing issues! Even if you set action at a little higher north of 1mm you'll love it! You see there's a danger of fret-leveling between the 8th fret and 16th fret due to the concave effect! This is why when guys fret level those frets you actually denying yourself lower action you'll make buzzing issues worse. I've seen guys totally ruin the frets on the entire field as it all go's south, they don't get it that they lowered the frets in the concave section from 8th to 15th what I call the kill zone. Once you remove metal on the frets you can't bring it back, they whole guitar will have to be re-fret. Sound wise and tone there's absolutely no advantage of fret-leveling above the 12th fret as round crowns produce the very best tone. Once I do my tier removal removing metal, there's of course a flat railroad track, so I then use my re-crowning tool and round crown the frets back to perfect round crown, then high polish. Now Mr. Warner the luthier I knew and admired did have players bring him their guitars who wanted the "vintage feel" and playability in their newer guitars, he would take off very little, just an ever so slight amount on the frets entire fretboard. The frets retained their round crown with an ever so slight center line that was flat and then high polished.

  • @1man1guitarletsgo
    @1man1guitarletsgo 3 месяца назад

    This looks really interesting. I usually level all the frets with the strings off and the neck dead straight, then pile masking tape on fret 12 and run my beam between there and the last fret (always with some of it on the tape) to create fallaway. Looking forward to the next installment!

    • @IshredGuitar

      I explained in detail to your questions in the Part 2 video, I've decided to do a Part 3 will do this procedure to my 1989 Yamaha Pacifica 921. It's really easy to do will totally eliminate buzzing issues and you don't even need to remove your strings, it's about an 1 hr job. Most important thing is to protect your guitar, go slow and methodical and its just 7 frets on a 22 fret guitar and 9 frets on a 24 fret guitar. You never have buzzing issues again! I explain in detail what I call the "kill zone" and why guys are ruining their frets on their guitars messing with the frets above the 12th fret.

    The metal tone I'm getting with this setup is quite frankly just fucking outstanding! If you have a 44.1khz sampling rate modeler into the HX Stomp it will work and produces superior tone, but if you're trying to send a 48khz signal from a 48khz sampling rate modeler into a 48khz modeler doesn't work, it then produces shitty tone. You have to remember the signals are getting A/D-D/A converted. They slam into the converters this is what causes aliasing and artifact especially with high gain. This is something I learned from studying audio engineer data. I tested different modelers and its true. The HX Stomp accepts the Zoom G1on and the signals are perfect A/D-D/A conversions to 48khz sampling rate. Example I tried a Nux MG400 into the HX Stomp the tone is shitty! So if you got a 44.1khz sampling rate guitar modeler it will go into the HX Stomp and the conversions are solid.

    I'm always tweaking the presets and parameters to these 2 cheap ass guitar processors, you know a shared roll chained setup utilizing these two peasant modelers the Zoom G1on and the HX Stomp for super tight response and 1.5 - 2ms latency! I'm getting true 119db dynamic audio range out of this little bastard Zoom and a 48khz sampling rate conversion with the vintage digital delay within the HX Stomp. Not only am I a pro metal lead guitarist I'm a audio engineer enthusiast, I dig the shred as well as nerding out on the audio engineering shit! lol! I'll get a Fractal Axe FX III soon enough because I'm getting fucking tired of messing with these peasant modelers. Now I just want to be left alone in my room so I can shred!
