i own a tea cafe. Just found this channel. learning a lot. we have been open 7 months and trying to stay afloat
I live in a small country town about 100 km from the nearest capital city in Australia. We have eight different cafes in town and they all seem to be perfectly viable businesses. They all focus heavily on the food they sell, not just the coffee. The competition has certainly driven up the quality. The Covid period was really good for our little town as the city folk couldn’t go on holidays and instead took day trips. I think a lot of them discovered places like our little town and really liked it because they’re still coming on weekends. The place is busy. I don’t think the owners of these cafes are getting rich, but they certainly viable because none of them are closing. Rent obviously much lower than in the city too.
The business owner needs to be a barrister as well.
This is so basic - it’s boring
The cafe looks and is busy, but too many of the customers buy and sit for a couple of hours with a single drink, using the free internet. The coffee etc, is always too expensive for many, and the food items are all unhealthy options. Charge for the wifi, and there will be a lot fewer customers. So the shop is busy making no profit.
This guys gate keeping. These prices are for brand new everything and custom bullshit.
Wellington, New Zealand had a bakery that won top of 2024 and only a day later announced closure.
5$ for a 12oz flat white? Lol. I sell a cappuccino at 10oz for 7.99. Stop under pricing your products. And shorten your menu. Simple as
Thanks for sharing useful information. Can a mobile truck or van coffee shop has good potential to make decent business? Please share thoughts. Thank you
Are there any books you would recommend to read on the subject of opening a bakery or coffee shop? Anyone's suggestions are appreciated 🥐 ☕️

Interesting. It costs me 26 cents per coffee at home; including gas and splillage, although I think the mocha pot makes the aldi beans taste better ;-). I don't have the bulk buying capacity of a coffee shop; where does 1.20 come from? Weird Milks?
Hey there, I emailed you about potentially working together.
What if the one I’m trying to do is more of a café style restaurant with me as the chef. I wanted to do this for over a decade. It’s been my dream since high school to have a poetry café with good food with a small little stage inside and we would have poetry nights, and it would be called the slam as in poetry slam. I gave up on that dream years ago, but I still really want to try..
awesome

Aussie Steve Carell talking coffee……
How do you see labor as a burden? How else are you gonna have a business? Slaves?
Unless the owners work for free as much as they can, they will hemorrhage on labor.
It’s more are the hired staff actually necessary to serve the customers or are they hired because the owner doesn’t want to work hard.
Reduce rent for good business
one of the biggest pet peeves of coffee shops is not thinking about making the customers comfortable so putting blenders on the counter that are used to make juices or iced coffees is the worst! For the love of god leave them in the kitchen away from the patrons.
Hello brother 👋 I am 21 right now I want to open a coffee shop but I do not have any experience in how to do coffee what is the best step to take right now
In the USA, coffee shops sell their coffee too cheaply. In Finland, a coffee bought from a coffee shop costs about 5-8 euros per cup, that's about 5.37-8.60 dollars according to the current exchange rate, and most coffee shops offer either coffee that has been standing all day or coffee from thermos bottles to cut their corners. This makes coffee shops somewhat and tolerably profitable.
Thank you so very much for the insights and tips...wondering if you can share any Excel templates on P&L or related financials for cafe operations? Much appreciated 🙏🏽
this is an awesome video. Props.
I don't own a cafe, but, I am a shareholder in Starbucks. I love the beverage and am always seeking out new, different and interesting concoctions. I am here for "3rd" wave, and yes. I am a business owner myself and would love to have a coffee shop in my own empire, one day. Thank you for this knowledge. It's genius, and much of it can certainly be applied to other businesses.
Profit and EBITDA are not interchangeable terms. Interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation distinguish them. I know you’re trying to dumb it down for cafe owners but not to the extent that what you say is wrong
As a person who operates four cafes, this is a pretty accurate video.
These are super helpful videos! Thank you.
I saw a comparison of a cappucino cog with a cup o' tea. (english btw) and lets just say the old ladies on coach tours are paying a bit over the gooods value (about 10 times.)
Coffee shops and restaurants have a very high failure rate, the landlords get their money, then wait for the next mug to appear. The overheads are a real issue, utilities, local taxes, certification, inspections, insurance, call outs for equipment repairs, legal advice, the hidden employment costs.
If you have a lousy location or a lot of competition or both then failing becomes easier regardless of what you might think of doing...
So so interesting to see this breakdown. In the salon industry labor actually comes second to cost of goods since so many products are required to perform a single service. But I see how cost of labor is the most expensive here. I find the varying cost of labor by industry so intriguing after watching another video about a bakery and her cost of labor was $22,000 a month. I almost fell out my chair 😅
I’m glad you mentioned hiring a professional designer for the cafe. I’ve not seen a single cafe design I liked yet. Unfortunately many of the professionals follow the same guidelines for design based on what’s proven to have worked in the past rather than on the community it’s in. Everything is bright & sterile. But then again I am also eccentric so I lean towards unique designs like Stina’s Pizzeria in South Philadelphia. Now to have a coffee shop designed similar to that style would be amazing.
The most successful cafe chain in my city has over 60 cafes just in Warsaw, they're called Green Cafe Nero. Their interior is very pleasureable and they successfully outcompeted Starbucks in the local market because they can create cozy environments. You may want to see photos from their interior design in Google Maps.
How about a coffee place that roasts their own beans maybe a reverse osmosis water filter using steel mesh filters instead of disposable filters with plastic I mean there are no real coffee shops just bs being sold.
How can I win I am a copy maker help me bro
