THINKSCAN 689BT The tpms does nothing without a compatiple moduled or tpms tool.. Lacks full GM enhanced PIDs and functions. This only comes with a small few pages of user's manual that has little content. It supposed to have a help section in scanner, but you cannot get to it for most functions screens. The OBD-II interface is Bluetooth, but you also need to allow the scanner into your internal LAN or Wi-Fi network and not knowing what it is doing in the background on network and out to internet This scanner functions too slowly, keeps discounting with vehicles when changing modes and functions of scanner. The older the vehicle is, the far less functions this scanner has, including like with the 2003 Corvette there were only 2 bidirectional functions. As to PIDs (parameters) as example for engine alone GM has over 500 PIDs this scanner only showed 40 of them, and they were in different PID groups scanner has in menu but does not allow picking all PIDs together from those groups. Recording capture rate is slow, and all this record mode does is shows 1 moment of engine run time, so cannot replay any recording or export the data to than allow to import that data to an Excel spreadsheet to analyze all PIds data for whole test drive recording There is no fault code database or knowledge-base it simply performs a google search of the fault code for you. I did a quick test of the live data monitoring, it works as intended but I did notice a small amount of lag whilst graphing multiple data source inputs when compared to my official V*DS cable. Another negative I noticed is the Privacy Policy, it states they collect and store information about ALL the vehicles you scan! There is no opt-out for this which may/may not be an issue if you’re using this for business use. I also made sure to connect this device to an isolated guest access point on my WiFi.

Rick, I have a 2005 Honda pilot I can’t get any tech-support from Xtool. They told me to do it through email. I would sure like to know how you contacted somebody who could help you because I’m having no luck whatsoever with making this thing for my new sensors that I got that are supposed to work with this car they are not Xtool sensors, butjust curious if you had any info how I can contact them

That tool is more expensive then just buying a whole new lock. Only worth it for locksmiths, huge apartment owners, etc.

Just spent a much longer time than normal to try to have someone at HP confirm for me what they offered in All In One’s that did Duplex scanning. I already found the 9135e but wanted more options. The filter choice for two sided scanning on the website was not removing printers that didn’t have it on a search……So, first I got connected to Instant Ink after asking for product support. Then spent 10 minutes on hold while they transferred me to tech support. Then I got a person with severely broken English where you couldn’t have the simplest back and forth in what you’re asking and the answer. I simply asked what were the lowest price point Printers that offered duplex scanning? She didn’t seem to be able to tell me, even though she’s in tech support and then put me on hold for a few minutes while she did “research”, to come back with no answers and an offer to transfer me again, while pushing for me to use the website that didn’t work. I said this isn’t getting me anywhere, quickly said, looks like I’m getting an Epson and then hung up. I had called Epson before this, went through a simple menu and got a live human being who in less than a minute told me the model they had. I tried HP just to see what they had as I currently use an Envy model. Made me think, if I took a chance and ordered a refurb 9135 (puts it in my budget range) is this going to be the same experience trying to get help with it. They don’t even know what their printers can and cannot do? It’s really amazing in our current state of data and tech, you can’t, via a website, chat or phone call, find the feature you need on a printer from the company selling the printer. 🤷‍♂️

I must have watched dozens of videos covering all the currently available car scanners, some obviously don't make my top five for a variety of reasons. However I have to agree the Thinkscan 689BT does seem to be the best all round option, not least because of the free software updates. I saw someone say "yes as long as they stay in business" but that is true whatever you buy, free upgrades or not. I noticed someone said the remote assistance shortcut is a nuisance and gets in the way, this can be switched off. I like the topology map option but I'm not so keen on the "prosthetic beige" plastic (?) used on the OBD connector - but I can live with it. Lastly I have noticed a much reduced supply of 689BT units and being at the end of the year ('24) I wonder if there is an upgrade imminent? Thanks for the video Rick.

I have the Xtool D7. It sucks for chasing misfires. You also can’t install all the available updates because it’s limitations right out of the box.

Hi, you right, in fact, why pay a subscription when it's more interesting to pay a little more for new, more efficient models that come on sale? but is 689 really free for life? can we trust this promise? ... for example, is the number of updates as numerous as for the other models in the range?... do these updates correspond to those of the other models or are they updates dedicated not offering the same level of functionality...? This is the first time I've seen a commercial offer like this from a diag tool manufacturer, especially thinkcar..

that little blue powerbank you have is also PD capable, but it is not capable of the higher powers and voltages the bigger one does. You can see on the soldering iron display it shows 12v which likely means it's negotiated an 18w PD profile with the soldering iron, if it were not PD capable then the soldering iron would give an error as it cannot operate at the default 5v USB puts out.

Great video and very easy to follow. Helped me in more ways than one. I can appreciate that this lock may be less effective than one of the original designs. However, If a bad guy wants in they will get in anyway, regardless of the lock used.

@Fix It Rick what about the OEM Entune Menu settings that were on the factory radio for AC, Lighting, Door Locks etc?

Another easy removal without risking breaking the porcelain is a Dremel. put a vertical cut

I'm a 36 year Registered Master Plumber in Pittsburgh. You really did a fantastic job on this for not being in the business. 👍 I've done several of these over the years. I can offer you some very helpful tips in case there's a next time. As far as the flush valve. When removing the old one, remove and discard the flapper first, then push down with the flat palm of your hand where the flapper would close against, give it a strong push and twist. Prior to installing the new one, make sure the weird shaped opening has no residual flecks of old gasket. Then take some anti-bacterial hand soap and lightly coat the porcelain at the opening, as well as a light coat on the bottom of the foam gasket on the new flush valve. Only the bottom of the gasket. Remove the flapper off of the new flush valve. Align the new flush valve so the three triangular black tabs are right next to the opening their sliding under. Then with the open hand, flat palm method, push and rotate. Important !! Only worry about getting those tabs under the porcelain, If you get them under the lip of the porcelain even a good half inch, this is sufficient. People break the new ones all of the time by trying to get those tabs like 1-2 inches under the lip. Not necessary. Just be mindful that your overflow riser is against the back wall at 12 o'clock and you should be golden. Sorry for the long winded response. I was a plumber at a university for years with 100's of toilets, and also taught plumbing school at night for the county for nearly 15 years. As I stated, I've also changed several of these over the years.

Nah. The first piece is under tension, that's why it releases. Just add a piece of tape perpendicular over your first piece in a 'T' shape. The second piece is not under tension so will hold. The extra surface tension of the "T" will keep it from releasing. Or wrap around the the bottom of the box. Each corner of the box you go around decreases the tension on the tape.

Hi Rick, appreciate an excellent tutorial on TPMS sensor replacement. I was about to order the Autel TPMS tool/sensor set, but I found the XTool combo a lot cheaper. So I came to RUclips to look for relevant reviews and tutorials. Yours gives me the confidence to buy the Xtool set(I have a Lexus)! I'll take a chance on one or two defective sensors since they are 33% less expensive. Good Job, Sir!
