This was one of those perfectly fine middling episodes. It never goes into classic territory for me. The ending with Mulder nearly shooting Scully was very intense but made me feel weird as a fan. I think it was an interesting idea that just never clicked with me. I recall the sequel episode being better, but I could be wrong. Drink up some hot tea and take the next game in silence! haha!

The wrap up of this 2 parter is another highlight of the series as we get most of the major players involved; Smoking Man, Krycek, Lone Gunmen, Skinner, the entire Syndicate, young Bill Mulder and even a Michael Buble cameo as a young actor. That ending with Krycek, finally being rid of the oil but trapped along with the UFO, is definitely haunting. A great episode as we get to learn quite a bit more about the UFO and Syndicate’s secrets and the all star cast that delivers a tight story that flies by. Side note: Sorry I'm not able to join the discussion on The Walking Dead, I just have way too much on my plate to start another series right now. Also, I only made it to like the half way point in that series until I stopped watching it. I won't spoil anything but if you've already seen it previously, you may already know what episode I dropped it, LOL! I've had a few friends try their best to get me to finish it but I just can't do it, I got my reasons.

Yet again another episode lifted by the level of talent and writing on the show. There’s some great interaction with all involved and again the presence of some great actors help put it over the top; Ermey is always awesome, Kenneth Welsh, I know so well from Twin Peaks and I loved seeing him pop up in this one. The storyline revolving around Scully’s spiritual faith as opposed to faith in the supernatural that Fox exhibits was an excellent idea to explore. I’ve often found it amazing that the existence of God and the spirit is always so easily dismissed while ghosts, aliens and supernatural beings are so much more accepted. Too deep to dig into but it’s fascinating. You mention ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, that's been on my list to watch again for a while because I never got around to seeing the Ratched series on Netflix. Also, FULL METAL JACKET, proud to have seen that in the theater and was properly shook. I just recently bought the 4K on Prime Day, so I'm looking forward to that!

What a freakin great episode! Another David Nutter episode too! I'm so surprised to learn Nutter directed so many bangers! Brad Dourif totally killed it in this episode and I gotta say it's one of his very best performances! This is one of the best episodes in my opinion. I also like to think Don Davis' character as Scullys dad, along with his character in Twin Peaks, helped influence his character in Stargate SG1.

1-6 were great. Then it got a little too soap opera-ish for my taste. I really love watching the first episode in b&w. The special edition DVD from 2009(?) had it on there. Kinda weird they didn't include it in that nice set.

This one in particular I love to rewatch every now and then without having rewatched prior episodes because I feel like it can stand alone on its own for fans of the series who have already rewatched a few times. Man, this episode is really creepy! Not much is freaky or scary to me in film or tv, but this episode is a weird one and ever since I was a kid it was just really strangely eerie. The atmosphere, the effects, the weird face. They manage to make it a very epic feel for this and it’s follow-up episode. If I had to complain, I do get tired of the secrets wrapped in a secret hid under a secret - all with a shadowy figure who won’t say anything other than vague tips - it all gets a little tiresome. But there’s so much good stuff in the characters and production that it’s easily overlooked. Like yourself, revisiting this series, only makes me love it even more. Loved the goof on the autopsy video, I recall the controversy and popularity of that airing on Fox back in the day. One of the original 'viral' videos? LOL! "Science will seemingly move to undermining the fabric of our existence by their meddling..." - this thought touches on how I feel about the real world we live in and how this show intentionally or not (it is in my mind) reveals the nature of the lies we're told still to this day. Back when this aired, I wasn't as skeptical or as knowledgeable as I am now but maybe this planted the seeds for me to be open to looking beyond the official stories we're always told. Upon learning "... the rest of the story" about what's in the news, we see how "science" manipulates so much of what we're told. ... deep subject but I like you touched on the essence of the idea.

@@DonJoeBob Completely agree with ya buddy!! I really do think these shows served as a type of lens, serving up plates of ‘truth’ in ways that were gentle.. Like you said, not so much to stun us in the moment but plant seeds for a later time. Is there any reasonable person alive that doesn’t think we might be presently living in the midst of one of the greatest ‘inside’ jobs in history?? I firmly believe the ‘governmental apparatus’ will stop at nothing to preserve its own power/status. Thankfully, we do live in a time in which technology serves both the ‘friendly’ as well as the ‘unfriendly,’ whether it’s science, politic or what not…
