Linear Test
This is an early test of rendering the Enterprise with a fully linear color space. For some reason I never actually clicked “Publish” on the the thing, so here it is.

Gene Roddenberry's masterpiece STAR TREK premiered fifty-five years ago today on September 8, 1966. The series starred William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk, Leonard Nimoy as Science Office Spock, DeForest Kelley as Chief Medical Office Dr. Leonard McCoy, James Doohan as Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott, Nichelle Nichols as Communications Officer Nyota Uhura, George Takei as Helmsman Hikaru S...

There is still some work to be done here (mostly the background stars which aren't aligning quite right & some detailing in the hangar deck) but this is the first time I've created a clip that's specific to "The Doomsday Machine" in about... oh... A DECADE. I figured maybe it was high time I actually started trying to finish this effing project. So, this may not be the final version of this sce...
Happy Birthday, Gene Winfield!

54 years ago, noted custom automotive fabricator Gene Winfield built the 3/4-scale "Galileo" shuttlecraft prop first seen in the 1967 _Star Trek_ episode "The Galileo Seven". Two weeks ago, Gene celebrated his *94th* joyride around the sun. To commemorate this auspicious occasion, I built a shuttle for him. Happy birthday, Gene!

COVID-19 got me down but not out... I'm still determined to get this project finished in time for the Star Trek 55th anniversary this September. This video shows off progress in multiple areas on the Enterprise including texture tweaks, modeling changes to the deflector dish and warp nacelle power units (aka "Bussard Collectors"), and of course, the revised phaser effects shown here. As usual R...

With the exception of a couple of quickie test stills, I haven't touched my LightWave models since just before the COVID-19 pandemic shut everything down in March 2020, and I haven't worked on my _Enterprise_ model since November 2019. This is the first time I've rendered the _Enterprise_ since it was reskinned to reduce some of the shine on the primary hull (still have some tweaking to do ther...

The Starship Constellation exits from warp TMP-style in today's test video. There are several things in this sequence that I plan to tweak, but this came together pretty nicely so I thought it'd be fun to share. Thanks for watching!

UPDATE 12/28/2023: I’ve been sick for about a week with Covid (feeling much better now… thanks Pfizer!) and haven’t been checking my RUclips channel for even longer, so I was stunned to stop by this afternoon to see that this silly little clip from years ago jumped about 25K views this month alone! Ridiculous! How did you guys find me? However you got here, thanks so much for watching, and make...

Initial modeling has been completed! The only thing left to do is the hangar deck, which I'm going to skip for now since it is not needed for the first 2/3rds of the project and frankly, I need to work on something else for a while. That something else is what's up next: the ill-fated USS Constellation.

Impulse engine and warp drive lighting effects test (revised). I fixed the alpha transparency issue that was visible in the impulse reactor chamber from WIP #121 (the materials issue with the interconnecting dorsal is still not fixed here, though). I also tried adding a little film grain to this version, and slightly lightened the background from pure black to a deep, deep dark blue.

Testing the impulse engine and warp drive lighting effects in this video. Ignore the materials error at the base of the interconnecting dorsal; that's already been fixed (but not in time for this video). I also spotted the alpha transparency problem in the impulse engine intermix chamber (you can see stars flying by _inside_ the chamber). This issue is fixed in WIP video #121-A: ruclips.net/vid...

Finalized the "Christmas lights" effect for the warp nacelle domes. Added some ductwork and detailing behind the inboard grilles on the warp nacelle pylons. Now it's onto the rest of the warp pylons, a final "space weatherization", finish the hangar deck, and I'm done!

"Scott to bridge." "Spock here." "Mr. Spock, the ship feels wrong." "Feels, Mr. Scott?" "I know it doesn't make sense. Instrumentation reads correct but the FEEL is WRONG. It's something I can't quite put into words!" Kinda feeling like Scotty right now. This video is my first attempt at employing a linear color space workflow from start to finish, but there is definitely some work to do. I lov...

This is the same source material used in work-in-progress test #116 published earlier today, but without the heavy gamma correction applied to the earlier video. I'm publishing this to get some second opinions, but I think it's too dark. Also, if I were to go with this darker palette, I'd need to do some rejiggering of the materials used on the ship's hull (the engraved grid on the primary hull...

LOVE the detail on the impulse engines!
Holy hell! How have I not seen your stuff before now?! This is easily the best TOS work I've ever seen
Cool and all but embedded into the hull like the OG design seems less prone to failure
Still the GOLD standard . . . nothing that has come since has matched her grace and beauty.
that is amazing,,, i almost had a tear in my eye
Fantastic Enterprise! I always wondered how it would look if it were lit the way the refit is.
I would die if we got that classic fly by with the tos music in SNW.
Amazing. Constitution-al perfection! And you really know how to pick the juiciest clips from the sound track
Every couple weeks or so I come back to this vid and watch it a half a dozen times in a row. lol. It's perfect. It's been quite a while since I got this enamored with a Trek ship clip. The last time was the scene from the Ent Mirror episode when the Defiant comes to the rescue of the Terrans. That blew me away at time which I suppose was about 20 years ago
What a beauty ❤
😅😅😮😅well information good show you 😅😅😅😅
😅😅😅well ingormeti0n.Good show more 😅😅😅
Still patiently waiting!!!
I won’t even try to begin to describe what a year of hell this has been. I know I said I would get back to this in February, and obviously that hasn’t happened yet. I will say that my confidence that I will be able to get back to this sooner than later is reflected in the fact that I have never let my OTOY Octane subscription lapse. This project WILL be finished.
This is very cool. I like how the rotating "barrels" or crystals or whatever they are explain the short bursts they always fired in TOS.
I nerdsqueaked happily and played this clip over and over. Very good job. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
EXCELLENT
COOL GOOD JOB
Looks great!
How is it that fan productions nearly always are better than studio stuff?? 😄💯👍✊This shuttlebay clip is beautiful 🤩!
👽👍
How about bong bong bong bong 😂😂
Great job!!
Great job!!
This is exactly why I moved my quarters from Deck 8.
1. Phasers should be blue, according to Original Series canon. 2. Bussard fans are turning the wrong way (should be rotating inboard from the top). 3. Beam divergence in examples 1-3 appears far too wide for firing at a single target at any appreciable range. 4. Work on the lighting - an HDRI environment map with a strong primary and secondary fiil-light source perhaps?
Really enjoyed that! Great job
The phasers cannons deploying under the saucer look like they’ve always been there.
Kind of what I was going for. There are lots of little details up close that of course were not on the original 11 foot model, but with a handful of very big exceptions I really tried to stick to a Golden Rule: any changes changes that I make can only be seen up close, but when the camera is as far away from the Enterprise as it was back in the 1960s, those details need to disappear.
Spellbinding. Absolutely beautiful.
That looked great! The emitters were on point. That's one thing that the Klingons and Romulans had over the Federation, was fire power. Not that the Federation would ever want to be aggressors, but if you're going to have weapons to defend yourself, defend aggressively and if necessary, devastatingly.
Felony stupid.
I agree with everyone. Nice work. I like option one as I like playing things closer to the original while I do appreciate that the beams feel powerful.
Best 40 second video ever!
excellent. The first I have seen to use actual details from the original ship. The shading of hull plating and deflector grids all in place. Well done sir
Looks awsome! Constructive criticism: Why did you add photon sounds? Why are the phaser bolts orange and not blue?
I love this guy's Constitution! It's a perfect HD realization. It seems like everybody else (fan or official) believe that 'modern realism' can only be achieved via heavy-handed aztecing and/or superfluous inlayed lighting.
The phasers are the wrong color. Constitution classes fired blue/white phasers.
Now, let's see some upgraded torpedoes being fired, with some velocity and power in them (thinking Balance Of Power type of energy, not those anemic torpedoes from next gen and on)
You know, I never actually tried to do photon torpedoes. Probably because they weren’t used in “The Doomsday Machine“, the episode I was trying to re-create this model for.
What’s name of the theme in the video?
I think the name is “Decker’s Revenge”. it’s a sample from a CD released back in the 1990s by GNC Crescendo of the original episode soundtrack.
Not sure how this got any dislikes, very very impressive work.
1 and 2 were good but 3 was to next gen phaser strip
Captain the phasers are ready.
That was stunning!
Very, VERY pretty!
Total Doomsday Machine vibes.
Absolutely Amazing !!!!
How I wish i had that skill!!! I need a Connie for the Yorktown NCC 1717. I need a Aeon time/scoutship coming out of a rift, circles the Yorktown as it tries to evade. The scout circles and forceably lowers the aft shields and lands in the bay. Then another view of a closing rift, when it reverses size and a larger Wells class timeship comes through and stops nose to nose with the Yorktown. I'm trying to get a teaser reel done so I can try crowd funding the film.
Urge.... to...play... Star.Fleet.Battles.......rising.......
That was the most intense 41 seconds of Star Trek fan content I've ever seen! I love the classic phaser discharge personally but your version seemed much more badass.
I'm liking it but why do all these videos play the phaser and torpedo sound at the same time?
Are you going to upload new stuff? Your work is spectacular!
I’m the software architect at a small company and we’ve spent the past two years rolling out a major new version of our core offering (which is now six months behind our original schedule as more and more features keep being layered on). I think I am finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel (and I don’t think it’s a train heading in my direction), so… maybe soonish? Meanwhile, just the other day I turned on my graphics workstation for the first time in a few months, and spent half an hour looking at test footage that I never released. I keep thinking I should put all of that together in a reel just for fun…
