Grusk 2024 The Nankman take on the "lungo" course
Jessica and Joël Nankman complete the 2024 Grusk Lungo course. Highlights of the ride include the pedal up to the highest point in West Virginia Spruce Knob and the interesting night time scenes and encounters. Lowlights are the taking a wrong turn and sleeping in a pile of leaves on the side of the road. No matter what, it's all part of one wild and wonderful event.

This is How I Liv- Adventures in the Life of a Women Cyclist
Great video! I'm doing that race this year in a couple weeks. Any tips??
if you guys planned on riding together why split of once you saw each other at the first aid?
Very good question, Couple reasons, first off sitting around waiting at events like this is detrimental, continually moving is the better option the first store sees a lot of riders come in together waiting 20+ minutes in line is normal. So for Jess to wait that long for me would have been terrible. With the tire cuts I had in my tires the likelyhood of me finishing was slim so I did not want to cut into Jessica's finish time by making her wait. Knowing there was a good chance I would not finish anyway. Lastly, I might not show it on video but I was extremely frustrated and would not have been much fun to ride with at that point.
look like a great event.... pedal pedal pedal.. bummer about the flats....But wow.... Jessia make it look easy.... always wellspoken and mentally sharp and never saw her sweat... what a rock star.
You are an inspiration to all of us cyclists!
Lifelong West Virginian here. You are such a nice young couple, and I really enjoyed your video. Was looking for pictures of the course and you gave a good overall example. I am hoping to be there this year, just a shorter course. Glad you added the time because it gives perspective to us potential riders. Wishing you many happy miles together....
Great video. Thank you for taking us on your adventure.
What a cool event. 30hrs! That’s respect. Great storytelling. Subscribed!
that was a copperhead, very poisonous, thx for the content, have fun..
It's a cornsnake...narrow head, and no hourglass on it's side...but it's a nice one.
Just stumbled upon your video . Awesome 👏 video . Thx so much for sharing . Appreciate the effort it takes to do this while riding
thanks for sharing, tubeless next time!!!!
Thank you for the tip, but. Joel was running tubeless and it did nothing but slow the flat fixing process down unfortunately. The sharp flint made cuts in the sidewalls way to large for any sealant to seal. Nothing could have prevented these flats. Just luck of the draw. For reference we finished a 220 mile race last weekend on the same tires and wheels and far more gnarly terrain without a single issue.
Epic, fantastic effort
Great seeing you two still out there doing epic shit! I'm looking forward to seeing more, great job Jessica!
GREAT job!! Perseverance...
Congrats. Your determinations shows throughout the video that you were going to finish. My wife and I did the 200 and one of the hardest parts was that Muddy Mile. I think you guys went through it as well. Really screwed with the mind but like all adventures there are little and big blimps that make it interesting.
One of the better unbound vids i have seen. Good job and congratulations on finishing
Great video to document an amazing accomplishment! Congrats! WOW, couldn't the weather have been nicer?
The weather that time of year is a large part of the challenge.
Looks like a fun race and awesome trails! I am hoping to do the solo this summer, do you have any advice for the course?
Hey Ryan it is one of my favorite 24 hour races if not my favorite. Really bummed to not make it this year. Solo is the best way to go. The course is quite technical as far as 24 hour races go which is what I really like it keeps you awake and on your toes the whole time. Setup your "pit" area as close to the start finish line as possible. Eat more than you think necessary especially early in the race. And start really slow like sunday morning stroll slow. You can always go faster later on if needed but you can't get the wasted energy back you lost early on. The more laps you do the "easier" the course gets so even if you feel like you our putting down the same effort your laps will get faster as the day goes on. Get good lights. Primary 1000 lumen or more on the helmet and if you like a secondary on your handlebars. And make sure you have batteries or a way to charge batteries to get through the night. After having done many solo 24 hour races over the past 15 years and using a ridiculous amount of different light setups both my wife and I have found that though pricey Lupine offers the best lights in the biz the Piko is our go to. Lastly be friendly to spectators and fellow racers they will get to know you throughout the day and cheer you on which is a huge boost especially in the middle of the night when you have no clue as to why the heck you are there.
@@Jessica-be7wv awesome thank you so much! I’m glad to hear it’s a slightly more technical course, I personally enjoy that more and as you said I think it will keep me going better during the night. I will look into those lights as well. The past few bikepacking races and night rides I’ve done I’ve used a 900 lumen helmet mount nightrider and a ~500 on the bars, it seems to work well but I’m sure more light makes it easier and safer. Thanks again! I’m looking forward to a 24
Nice, you both rode this in Excellent time...congrats....also great video.
How do you suggest handling the dark riding time? Apologize for my ignorance and I still want advice please.
Congrats! Does this earn you FKT status?
Thanks. Nope, that is under 24 hours.
Kudo's to both of you. Quite an accomplishment. Nice video too.
Thank you.
Awesome! Love you guys.
See you in 2023!
Nice job, Jessica and Joel!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great to see you two! Always inspiring!
Love it! Thanks for posting. :)
The team from Giant this year were freaking awesome! The guy was smiling and ringing his bell on just about all of the 20 something laps he did. The guy was a great ambassador of the brand and the race itself.
Pretty cool I made it into the video footage! Awesome stuff!
Great video Joel!
You missed the best trails (starting with the red blazed trails)! If you ever come back, hit me I'll up, we'll show the fun stuff.
Sweet. What trailhead is this? Gonna rip Batsto tomorrow! =)
