Roadtrip 2024: Kershaw-Ryan State Park
I finished the Pacific Crest Trail, so my sister Tamara came to celebrate with me. We headed out on a road trip visiting some national parks and seeing family. Then she flew back to my house from Las Vegas. I continued on, on this roadtrip.
10/26 We checked out the the Canyon View and Canyon Overlook trails at Kershaw-Ryan State Park, Nevada. In the evening, we played a dice game of 10,000.

I finished the PCT..2650 miles from Canada to Mexico (with lots of flip flops). The trail never goes as planned. Life happens... In the beginning, I only had a few weeks off a year and so I completed section hikes with Trail Tortoise 2017-2019. In December of 2020, my dad passed away. I think you guys are coming up on the bridge being out...perhaps...right before northern boundary of Kings Canyon NP? Did you guys navigate that ok? Perhaps they got it fixed...looks like you are going through a little later in the season (than when I was there earlier in the season). Nice video...nice job.

    I live about a 1 hr drive from Carson Pass or Lake Tahoe. I go to Carson Pass year round for hiking in the spring, summer, and fall, and snowshoeing in the winter. I enjoyed your video. I recognized many of the areas you recorded. Why would someone put their bear bag over you tent? That seems so strange. Thank you for sharing your trip.

      @@PushAdventures Thank you for your reply. I should have asked this in my first comment, but now that you've been using your Plex Solo for awhile now, how are you liking it? About the only downside I see is what you already mentioned, that you have plenty of headspace if you're sitting right next to the trekking poles, but otherwise the tent wall slants inward. I have a Big Agnes Copper Spur UV UL2 which I love, it's roomy and bombproof, but I'm going on a 40 mile hike at high altitude, lots of elevation gain, and potential wind which makes setting up a double walled tent more difficult at the end of a hard day, not to mention that with stakes and bag it weighs 3 lbs 5 oz, so a Plex Solo might be the way to go on my next trip. Any thoughts?

    • @PushAdventures
      @PushAdventures 4 месяца назад

      The Plex Solo is lightweught and therefore meets my needs. I am typically laying down and just sit in the middle to change clothes. The con for this tent is that you have to stake it out, so not every campsite works and the rainbow door sucks since you have to open it all the way to go thru. You can tie a loop of cord on the end our your string you use to put rocks in it when you can't stake it out or you can lay the stake with a rock on it. If you are concerned about pitching it in rocky places or on cement pads, then you might prefer a freestanding tent. I pitch this tent in almost all locations.

      We went Nov 2nd. No permit needed. We hired a shuttle to drop us off and then hiked to the grotto to take the shuttle back to the watchman campground. November is the shoulder season so the park is less crowed. There werent many people on the West Rim Trail until you are at the part that merges with Angels Landing.
