    The problem with comparing maradona vs Messi is that the current rules just heavily favors attackers Maradona literally physically couldn’t touch the pitch in many key games in his primes due to hard 2 legged tackles defenders were doing to him causing massive damages to his legs all without a single yellow card, the most famous example of this was when Maradona literally achieved the record for most fouls commuted against a single player in a World Cup match against Italy If maradona was truly allowed to play at the peak of his powers without ever stopping for Brutus injuries it would be a completely different story.

    The statistics are a little unfair to say the least, how many of those Neymar goals and assists are on the Brazilian League? And how many on the french league? Just compare the statistics without those numbers and you will see how the difference in contributions per match start to narrow.

    If anything Ronaldo should won at least four Balloon D’Or in 96 lost by a single vote to Sammer (European conspiracy) as they won’t allowed two years in a row to be none European after Weah claimed it the year before (95). After collecting his first (97) with that single freak of a season with Barcelona he got even better when he moved to Inter & was by far the best player in the world outplayed everyone in Serie A & dominated the hardest/most competitive Lea in the history of the game which where he got his nickname El Phenomenon as he carried his superior forms with him into the World Cup 98 & won the golden ball (player of the tournament) which confirms he should have been given 98 Balloon D’Or not giving it to Zidane as he did almost nothing at that World Cup (red carded & got suspended for further couple games) then finally at the final against an unfit Ronaldo & Zidane gets it? No thanks. Ronaldo scored 8 in 7 matches as he decided the semifinal & the final itself with his goals against Kahn (no idea why Olli was given the golden ball but whatever) & he’d have scored against England too if it wasn’t the sent off of Ronaldinho reduced Brazil to 10 for like 40 minutes to play & finally with all the nasty knees injuries that kept the phenomenon out of the game before reaching his peak just imagine how many Balloon D’Or he could have won (6?) minimum.

  • @a_guinness
    @a_guinness 24 дня назад

    *_Bold_* statement to claim that Jairzinho had a better World Cup than Pelé, when virtually everyone alive at the time thought otherwise. It's true that Jairzinho's performance is greatly overlooked these days, but that's mostly down to the young being ignorant. One thing statistics don't take into account is context, nor do they provide a clear picture of where a player was on the pitch at any given time or what his off the ball movement was like. Cruyff once said that a player on average has the ball for less than 3 minutes during a match, so it's what you do off the ball that counts. Did you include Pele's decoy runs or dummied passes for instance when you were analysing his stats? Or how about where he was when the team didn't have possession, the defensive positions he took up, the tackles and interceptions he made? He did things like in the game against Peru ( which was a hard fought match ) where he made a crucial interception in the last few minutes which led to an immediate counter for Tostão I think it was to put the game to bed. It is widely acknowledged by most who watched the games that Pelé was Brazil's best player, and that in spite of their dominance, they wouldn't have won had he not returned to play his last World Cup. And things like the shot from the halfway line ( which most people had never seen before ), the header that Banks saved and the famous dummy. These things even though they were " failures " were a big part of what made Pelé great. People remember his misses more than his goals, not because they were dreadful but because they were so spectacular. Another thing you didn't mention is that Pelé was past his physical best by that point, he was not someone you expected to pick up the ball and dribble past everyone like he could do before. Nor was he at his most prolific during that tournament. His main job was to keep the team's rhythm, orchestrating plays in the midfield and setting up teammates, which he did ( 6 assists! ). Jairzinho was probably the second best player in that team, but he wasn't better than O Rei Pelé!

    • @a_guinness
      @a_guinness 24 дня назад

      @@footballtat I don't doubt your integrity, I respect the time and dedication you put into making this video. My only issue is I feel you put too much emphasis on statistics. I personally don't think Jairzinho outperformed Pelé, but it could just be a preference thing. I tend to favour the playmakers over the dynamic wingers/dribblers, as I think they are more integral to how the team functions. If you remove them from the team then the whole playstyle changes, whereas the same cannot be said about the dribblers. The only exception being when a team has no big game players and the whole gameplan is to just give the ball to their best attacker and see what happens. This certainly wasn't the case for 1970 Brazil. I take the same view for other teams. Like with United for me Paul Scholes was the best player, even when Ronaldo was having his best season ( 07/08 ) I didn't think he was more important to the team. The same goes for Arsenal, although Henry was scoring the most goals, Bergkamp for me was their best player. Btw I rate Jairzinho very highly, above the likes of Rivaldo, Kaká and Neymar. Easily makes my top 10 Brazilian players of all time!

    In all fairness to maradona, when he went to play for Barcalona and he was healthy he was on like 60+ goal contributions playing CF. He fought the Barca staff for going out, and after that they never backed him. I think he got hepatitis and he was out like half a season, came back and got his ankle broken in one of the dirtiest tackles ever. He comes back in four months fights the team who broke his ankle, get sold to Napoli who stunk, and had one of the most legendary runs ever from 85-90. That was when he became the best pure “10” ever. Point is maradona was never coddled like modern players are, and that includes Messi and Ronaldo. He was never protected in the early stage of his career like Messi and Ronaldo. Could those guys with their talent go through his conditions he went through as a player when you compare them? If we’re talking career wise all day Messi, but if it’s one match, it’s got to be maradona. He didn’t need 5 world cups to win one.

Ronaldinho was the only player to have won everything until messi won the Olympics. Ronaldinho played for a washed up barca and made the barca we know now.
