Two cobbler hammers
This almost part 2 of something I posted a couple of weeks ago. In this video I clean and do light restoration of two antique cobbler hammers that were in my video "Antique cobbler hammer restoration". These two hammers acted as my guide to how I should shape the new handle in the previous video. it's pretty short, but shows how to clean up old tools without sacrificing that vintage and patina look. Enjoy!

Vintage Stanley 59 122 Half Hatchet clean up and sharpening
Просмотров 881День назад
I initially got this half hatchet from Vancouver Island this past summer with the intention of modifying it to a bushcraft hiking axe. However, seeing what excellent shape it was, I couldn't being myself to alter any part of the axe. In this video I just remove the blank stickers, clean off the rust, and sharpen her up. Great vintage tool that will have many years to come
Antique cobbler hammer restoration
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.14 дней назад
I bought an old carpenter's chest about a year ago with several antique tools in it. Among the tools were two antique cobbler hammers, and one hammer head. In this video I clean up the hammer head, and take an old hammer handle that had broken off, and refashion it to fit the much smaller cobbler head. I'll be cleaning up and restoration the other two cobbler hammers in another video. Enjoy!

This axe head was given to me by Marc when I was visiting him in Port Alberni, in British Columbia. It was his father's, and was headed to the scrap pile because of its condition. I thought it was a shame that an axe with that kind of history was going to be thrown out, so I decided I would have a go at bringing it back in to shape. Here's part of that process.
Cleaver Restoration
Просмотров 816Месяц назад
I initially picked up this cleaver at a garage sale for $8. The plan was to split it in half and create two knives, but as soon as I saw in person, I suspected that would never happen. It's been in my shop for over a year and I finally made up my mind that I would just re-profile the blade, and refinish the handle. I've restored in such a way that I haven't erased previous markings, so it has ev...

Bucket full of Machetes short sword part 2 of 2
Просмотров 1 тыс.Месяц назад
This is the second knife in the "Bucket full of machetes" series. Although I started this knife first, it has been a 2 year off and on project for various reasons and was completed later. It's a bit of a mixture of influences. The blade shape and handle were inspired by Lord of the Rings movies and series, but I chose not to polish and clean up the blade to pay homage to the life the blade had ...

Longbow wall holder
Просмотров 1712 месяца назад
This is a quick video showing how I replicated a holder I created to store my first bow so I could store my second one beside it. I used the same materials as the first time. Cedar cut-offs, and old wooden spokes from the wheel of a car from approximate 100 years ago. Enjoy!
Wok repair
Просмотров 1 тыс.2 месяца назад
Friends of mine reached out to me to see if I could find a solution for them. They bought a great wok from a company that's no longer in business, and it's perfectly seasoned. Unfortunately the handle broke, and they were wondering if I could come up with something. I'm pretty pleased with the results.
First wood shop fire of the season

It's that time again! It was cod enough in the shop to light the first fire this weekend. It was good to dust it off and get it going again while I worked on a few projects. Enjoy!

New shop axe
Просмотров 8143 месяца назад
Someone who no longer had a use for this axe head gave it to as they knew I would put it to good use. I had been meaning to make an axe specifically for the shop instead of using one of my hiking axes, so I decided now was the time. I matched it with a shorter handle that was wider than the ones I usually use, and the fit was great. It's going to get a lot of use in the coming months as fall ha...

@@bomaite1 yup. I actually have one, but it needs to be tuned up before I can use it. Thanks for the reminder!
Too thin bad temper?😏
@@josh44779 my best guess is that it was tempered to be hard. I wasn’t thinking; I couldn’t drill through it (which should have been a big hint) and for some reason decided to hit it with a punch. Only after did I wake up and realize I should have heated the handle up with a blowtorch to take out the temper and then drill. Sometimes ya gotta learn the hard way lol.
That's An old shinglers hatchet
@@andymac4314 I’ve definitely heard it called that as well. I was going by what they called it in an old Stanley catalogue. Thanks for watching 😁😁😁!
I appreciate a lot of people don't like talking/commentary. I would encourage you to add a simple description of the different items you used for the sharpening process.
@@alanfenwick9307 it’s something I’ve been thinking of addressing. I’ve been thinking of adding some text to my videos with that kind of information to keep it asmr as much as possible. Thank you for the feedback! It’s always good to hear what can be improved upon!
Awesome job! I think that axe was a hewing hatchet someone cut in half(also typically you would sharp a axe like that one both sides only on one side of the axe)
@@EmmettReese-nh9lg I think you’re absolutely right. The top part of the axe looks like it was cut off when I compare it to two others I have (unable to upload a picture in my response). I didn’t see it until you mentioned it. You’ve got a keen eye! Thanks for the comment!!!!
@ The fellow axe man must help out his buddies 😎🪓
Nice job on that ax head wonderful that it was saved blessings to you and yours coming at you from Southern Oregon
@@fosterkennel649 Thank you so much!! Part two coming this Sunday. Had to do more grinding as the edge was jagged due to the extreme pitting. All the best to you and yours in Southern Oregon!!
Cleaver girl...
@@jtrain9926 lol
Very nice! I have a couple heavy cleavers that are sitting in the shop waiting for some attention. This makes me want to get after them 👍
@@Nsvens89 that’s awesome! Love hearing that. I have another that is really rough shape. Thinking of turning it into something else that I have in mind.
@Reclaimatt I've also got one in rough shape with a forged handle. No idea what I'll do with it. But it was in a bundle of another cleaver I wanted lol
As a machete lover i can say....nice work 🎉...now do the rest on leather....
@@lordcelticfrost8686 lol! I’ve already started the sheath! Not sure when that video will drop. Thanks for the comment!
You are repairing handle, not a wok.
@@foxversusall4965 to be specific, I am replacing a handle. However, I feel that the handle is part of the walk and that the description is accurate. But I see your point, if you were expecting some metal work, then the video would be a little bit disappointing.
Okay nice effort. Think sand/media blasting and Nickel Plating. And that set would look new and last a very, very long time...
@@garymucher4082 a sandblasting unit may be in the future, but I do like doing manually 😉
Good job refurbishing. Thumbs up & I subscribed, Cheers !
@@ronsbeerreviewstools4361 Thank you! I really appreciate the feedback!
That was a nice, simple restoration. Good job on the video also. Take care, Ed
@@edconway9072 thank you!!!
I loved watching your fabrication process The end result was fantastic Especially liked the burnishing dowel in your lathe idea 🙌
Love the shape of the handle and thoroughly enjoyed the process We have a community wood hobby shop in our small town and I might have just been inspired to make something Thanks!!
@@viktorgeorge9144 that’s the best kind of feedback you can ever expect! Thank you! Feel free to ask questions if you think I can help!
@@Reclaimatt Thanks I appreciate that
That was a decent restoration!
Interesting, not sure about the shape of the blade; does it throw well? You might want to use some of the cool sharping - honing tools on your chisels ; {) Good video except during the initial chisel work on the handle, view was blocked by your hands and chisel handle. keep working on things and you will get more views. 👍Ed
I agree on the chisel angle. Learning as I go!😉
@@edconway9072 I haven’t had a chance to throw it yet. Made it for next time I go to my friends cabin; they have a target set up there.
I Have old one Red From Australia
@@angelaturra74 very cool; I don’t think I’ve seen a red one yet.
Nice work
Well done, both video and restoration. Ed
First time that I have seen you as well. My only critique is that the majority of the action occurs in the bottom third of the frame and some is even out of frame. you could either point the camera down more or move the action farther down the bench to put it in mid-frame. This is not to denigrate you video but just a suggestion on improving it for next time. I subscribed to give you a boost. I'll be watching for your next project. Ed
Hi Ed! First off, thank you for the feedback!! That kind of input is always valuable and I appreciate your taking the time. I suspected that I might need to do a better job with my camera placement, but didn’t realize it was so predominant. Hopefully the changes will appear in a few videos from now (already have a few in the can). Thanks again, and I appreciate the support!!!
First video of yours that I've seen. I like your production style. Nice socket set!
Nice haul. I like the Montreal pattern and that's awesome to find a kukiri!
Thanks! It’s actually my second. I came across one just over 20 years ago. Re-handled that one maybe 3 years ago and my friend uses it right now. Just missed out on buying a couple more!
That turned out nice and is just right for that area.
Thank you! I modelled it after an attic on my parents house. Soon it’ll be time to start lighting fires again.
How in the world did I miss your channel Thank you so much my friend I thoroughly enjoyed watching your skills in action and I just subscribed 🙌🙌 Beautiful workmanship
Thank you so much for the kind words! I have two upcoming projects inspired by your tips; a quarter moon and half moon leather knife. Thanks for the videos!!!!
Looks like a nice rafting pattern to me. Possibly an unstamped Collins. Should make a great splitter for the shop 👍
Fantastic! Hey, thanks for the info. I hadn’t thought about looking it up. Will follow up on that. Looks like you have some nice videos. Will check them out.
Gostei 😊
What is the spike used for?
It held some of the beams that created a breakwater on a Nova Scotian shoreline. The breakwater is falling apart now, but was built around 75 years ago. The pictures in the frame at the end show what’s left today.
Bravo ❤
Nice !
Nice sensitive resto work, very jealous of that workshop 👍👍
What is it used for?
It’s used to manipulate large wood pieces in to place. Handy when you’re processing wood for fires, or trying to get a piece in a certain position for cutting.
@@Reclaimatt ok, thanks
Awesome vid Matt! I hadn't thought of just making a pickaroon out of an old axe head. Been wanting one for some time now.
Dude! I’ve been meaning to write back for some time. I came across your messenger message a couple of weeks back and realized I hadn’t replied to you! Will send a more comprehensive reply later, but wanted to say a quick hello. Talk to you soon. And thanks for the comment!
@@Reclaimatt yeah man! No worries :)
Awesome Matt !❤
You should talk ! What are you painting on the axe ? Anything special ?
Ok, I may start doing that in later videos; thanks for the feedback!. It’s a blueing solution that helps prevent the steel from rusting. I followed it up with an oil to help preserve as well later on in the video.
Thunk… satisfying
Lol! Yup! Thx!
