    I tried Classic Cuban and felt it was a little strong but Oran has a slightly tamer version I like called Cuban Street that I quite like. The Dude reminds me of an early recipe (so early no one had coined the term “recipe” yet and waaay before Fuji Weekly even existed, but the guy who runs the Pete Takes Pictures blog. It was called Daido because it simulated Moriyama’s high contrast look. I really enjoy your channel.

    Tollymore as you see it today isn't that old unfortunately, it's mostly commercial plantation, with most of the old growth long gone. You can find some very old stoneworks in the forest if you have a mind to, some of which are on the map, like the White Fort, and some of which are not. Interestingly you'll see the stumps of very old growth trees inside some of these Bronze Age stone foundations, meaning they budded and grew in the location when the buildings were already abandoned, underlining quite how old these buildings must actually be. Great images mate, Tollymore is a goldmine for landscape photography!

    I loaded all of these into my X100V and really loved the Provia Sim Nurture Nature the best. It's crazy how just with a few WB tweaks how much Provia can change and look film-like I also loaded it into my X-T3. Looks a little different with the different sensor, but still fantastic. I've been looking for something that doesn't look like it's trying to hard to be edgy or artsy, but still has a "look" to it and this simulation is just perfect.

    Back in the day I've used my dad's Minolta SRT303b (which I still have) with several MC lenses. And I can tell you, while being great for negative film, colour and B&W, not so much for slide films, course every single one of those lenses gave those films yellow - greenish tint. Later versions of Minolta lenses like the MD and all autofocussing ones had great colours. But if you shoot digital these days I guess that info is irrelevant...

  • @sie11pervan
    @sie11pervan 17 дней назад

    The ST801, alongside the Chinon CE-3, is definitely one of the most advanced 35mm cameras from that era. I'm not too sure about the ST801, but the CE-3 has a button for holding the metered exposure in memory! It doesn't have the 1/2000th of the Fujica however! Yeah, the ST801 is still one of the camera's I'm looking to add to my collection haha. Cool video man!

Anyways I'm texting to say the camera I purchased is a Pen EE3 Half frame. With your understanding of camera's I'm sure you'd have a ball with it. A half frame takes two photos per negative meaning a 36 shot roll gives 72 photo's lol. I haven't tried it yet myself but it was something I thought you could do a video on. Something different. The XA has to be one of the most verbally tossed around cameras in history. It was made for snapshots, which may or may not be a pejorative, depending on point of view. What is it: A very small, plastic 35mm camera designed for convenience in the moment, trips to the beach, the family Xmas card, the birthday party. Simple to use, so mom can use it with reason for success. No fuss. Just slide open the front panel, and electrics are on. The exposure is only automatic, so the user was not intended to be an experienced camera user. The highest design priority: Compact. The lens does not extend and retract (but there's a price). Cons: The lens. A unique design to allow the lens to fit in the thin body without extending for use. It's so expensive and optically bad, that neither Oly or anyone else every used its design again. This "pancake spec" on the lens means that the rear element almost touches the film. That means it can be sharp in the image center 50% or so, but it's visually blurry, low contrast, near edges and into corners of the image. There is huge vignetting, meaning darkening of image edges and corners. There is, compared to other cameras, great linear distortion, meaning that straight lines curve in the image. So, contrary to some claims, it's no Leica. Actually, as a picture maker, it's not even an Argus C-3 from the 1940s. It's viewfinder is almost useless. It's rangefinder is so poorly designed that it was useless when new. The aperture is two sliding plates, just like a Kodak $12 box camera from 1955. Nevertheless, its success if based on the fact that you can take it without thinking. There is no point in worrying about the beautiful photo opportunity, if you didn't bring a camera long. As for its considerable imaging defects, after Walmart steps on your film processing, has the high school kid run your scans, and emails you low res images of the beach party, no one cares about optical image defects in the pics on your phone. The biggest argument for avoiding the XA as a purchase today is price. KEH (big used dealer) currently (8/24) is offering the XA between $250 and $385. That's nuts. The XA isn't durable - period. Buy one now for regular use-expect a useful life of two years at most. Practically unrepairable, both in fact, and in terms of repair cost exceeding value. So, buy at $50 - $100 today, use it till it breaks, and bin it.
