Splatoon 3: How Strong Is The Splat Brella?
Very cool video, and I like the highly opinionated format, but some things were wrong, perhaps from a lack of experience with the weapon. 1: Brella has neutral paint. Since it has the same paint trail as bucket and a faster fire rate (though fires less due to its shield) it gets a similar amount of paint to bucket, and people definitely do pick bucket in part for the special. It can't spam inkjet like ballpoint can, but it can get enough of them to be impactful. 2: Brella absolutely wins a 1v1 against all short range shooters, but more importantly its best matchups are actually splatlings and dualies, which aren't common, and its bad matchups against buckets and rollers is what really harms it in current meta. In theory the uptick in blasters would also harm it, but the main blasters in current meta are range blaster and the rapids, which it actually has positive matchups against (hence why people ran normal blaster instead of range blaster during s2's brella meta). 3: While yes, inkjet doesn't make brella a better main weapon, it's role as a frontline allows it to get much better positioning on jets than ballpoint could ever, which especially matters in the matchup against pencil which shuts down any attempt at long range inkjets that we see with ballpoint. In addition it's still an amazing continuation tool, which lets brella play really aggressively and for much longer periods of time. 4: chargers technically do stall, but not in the same way. You'll never see a brella playing primarily anchor, because it's a frontline. Frontline stalling is the domain of brellas alone (and 96 gal but thats besides the point). I think comparing sorella brellas value as a frontline staller to tenta brella or 96 deco, which we do see pretty often in competitive would be a much more productive comparison as to why its outclassed.
I never played Splatoon 3 when it released as I didn’t have the time (only just playing it this month). Coming back and playing Machine after maining it in Splatoon 2, it honestly feels about the same. Its not really a “broken” weapon anymore - its just good for people playing professionally, as it has a good kit. If you’re a not-that-great player like me, its not that much better than it was in Splatoon 2.
I think this wasn’t in the video splash o magic is good for a combo use burst bomb to distract them and rush in bang splat
How about Nintendo does something interesting and unique with their maps for once and adds a stage where the tide changes through the game, meaning at times, certain areas won’t be accessible to ink until the tide rises again, which also would open new areas to go to. I know they did this in one splatoon 3 map, but it could have been done better instead of “the tide goes down, that’s it” like have the players fear that the tide could rise again and kill them. Also how about some underground flanking tunnels where it’s almost pitch black and the target on enemies doesn’t appear in that area meaning chargers can’t easily camp that area and also have cover down there to get through
@7:03 while I never played splatoon 1 online, I can see that this is easily the best stage in the series, if not then top 3
I love how you explain It in 12 seconds insted of 5 minutes
they act like two legends cannot coexist
ngl my favorite moments in splatoon 3 is close combat with hectic movement like one time i had a jr and o was just rolling all around my enemy inching him closer to death with each bullet, that close combat is so thrilling and i kinda understand why they designed the map to make it happen more, but the thing is this sort of combat can happen in an open stage, just not as often but you know other kind of combat that is just as fun can happen like sneaking or flanking so i dont understand why they didnt just get the best of both worlds
It’s absolutely insane how wrong this is now 😂😂😂
Thanks
Don't know why this was recommended to me now, but you're spitting straight facts. I'm personally a Inkbrush main, and find Killer Wail 5.1 to be my favorite special. In casual turf war I can ink base and apply pressure to the enemy team as well, possibly catching the enemy off guard and getting the occasional kill. Since there are more beams, it gives a lot more opportunity to track opponents meaning I can see if anyone is trying to flank - particularly good in Clam Blitz. With that said, my favorite thing is taking Killer Wail 5.1 on the offensive. Once my special is charged, I'll make sure I'm midrange from an opponent, and while its firing on them, I can use the brush to quickly gain ground. If Killer Wail hasn't killed them itself, while there distracted, I can quickly sweep in an get the kill. It works at breaking lines of defense as well, especially with splatlings and chargers. Even against very skilled chargers, without being in their line of sight I can use Killer Wail, and then quickly make the distance and get them while they're repositioning themselves. I must admit, I do love this version, and love that they made it so versatile.
Ok now it’s FINALLY fallen off
Nice video! I do disagree though-I think fighting is super important in this meta, and with Snipewriter, Squeezer and Stamper comfortably in the top three spots in the meta rn, N-Zap does not really function as well in comps. For this reason I think that Tri Nouveau is also significantly better than Zap; the fizzy spam can still allow it to paint and support with chip damage, and of course it has great slaying potential on most maps in the game. All of what I said is for Zones only meta though! Overall I like talking about this type of stuff - keep up the great work!
Great video and great idea, you explained zap’s history pretty well. However I don’t agree with your conclusion, zap is the 2nd best cooler option at best maybe even third with edit, the reason being when you run a zap you’re taking out one of your frontlines for a support which means less fighting power but if you have pencil you can run 3 aggros and have your anchor be your support at the same time which is quite optimal since pencil just lives forever and paints from a safe distance with better paint and therefore better cooler output with longer coolers cause of the gear freedom snipewriter has allowing you more spu. As for tri, it’s not as strong anymore, the recent nerfs made its cooler output quite unreliable, you would only run it on some niche maps like flounder for example. Zooka is still one of the best specials in the game but as we got used to it, it’s not as dominant anymore, it’s probably on the same level as crab and inkjet which means splash is also starting to see more use. Also, in my opinion zap is clearly not top 5, pencil, squeezer, sword already have the top 3 spot, you can put stamper’s 2nd kit and maybe shot, splash, stent etc, I don’t think it can be top 5 with pencil being the monster that it is, it’s just better in every way… Zap is not outclassed tho cause it allows you to go backless or to play a different backline than pencil (even if there isn’t a lot of other backlines you’d want to run). This is just my opinion and my own experience as a comp player. You did a good job, keep up the good work!
Slight issue with that, every meta cooler option got nerfed in 6.1 except for snipewriter. It and squeezer are on top of the game and the best weapon that pairs well with them is… vshot. So unfortunately zooka is very much back on top
I don’t really see the issue, zooka is top 3,2 or 1 but it’s not the clear top 1 it was, when double shot was the staple. Crab is probably better, but that’s not the point… regardless of how good zooka is, yeah squeezer and pencil are the clear top 2… and no shot being one of the best options with those 2 (I say one of, cause it’s definitely debatable) doesn’t make zooka the best special in the game… cause yes double zooka is frequent but on squeezer the output clearly isn’t the same as when we would see double shot… I think having a crab option with the squeezer’s zooka is more valuable. All this stuff is debatable, but the point is zap isn’t in the greatest spot rn cause of pencil, please nerf this thing lol
Really enjoying this style of video, looking forward to seeing more
Thank you!
the answer is yes
@me_when8845 it’s top ten but pencil is still better than it in every way

Killer wail 5.1 is horribly outclassed by tenta missiles alone. Tenta missiles can locate anyone, can hit multiple people, can kill with one direct shot, and does what killer wail cant do, ink the floor. And isnt that what splatoon is all about to nintendo? If you get targeted and are out of ink, you can literally just walk away and the rays follow you VERY slowly. Meanwhile if youre out of ink vs tenta missiles, the explosions all stack and youre dead
GOD this weapon is so annoying to fight..it's fun tho
I always found it ironic that stormhero and arashi are on the same team because arashi means storm
It's competively awful, but painful to fight against bc it can kill you in 0.5 second.
52. Gal is my Favorite Weapons in Splatoon series and Want the Deco and Kensa. version on Splatoon 3 so Badly right Now.❤
I love e-liter because most of my shots I go for when playing a regular charger is slightly out of reach but I know for a fact if I had played e-liter I would’ve got them. I never got the chance to experience Splatoon 1 e-liter sadly however I did play it in Splatoon 2 and I hated ink armor. I adore my e-liter scope really helps my aim and I’m fine with the less vision I get I mostly use the map to help.
Strikes are kinda iffy in the current environment. They are actually quite powerful in terms of area and DPS after thee 2.1 buff. That should have been useful in a crab filled meta, but due to the weapons it was on (Rapid simply wasn't ideal, Brella has an incomprehensibly unsynergetic kit, and the Vanilla slosher completely breaking its playstyle to use the strikes since it's actually too close and strikes can't keep you alive, leaving Ttek which even then struggled in a splash and machine filled meta) made strikes simply not worth using. Until NEO Splash, which even then was hard to justify because of the vanilla splash and Machine. I feel 4.0 gave strikes a real chance. Chargers were seen more often on niche maps, including Zekkofin charger on Manta, Slosher is AMAZING for the cooler buff and upon respawn with special saver allows slosher to not have to completely break its playstyle by popping it (also major machine and stamper nerfs so yay). Ttek got accuracy buff so it started being real competition to NEO Splash. Inkjet was also becoming popular and burning a special to kill a jet was worth it compared to only breaking a crab with the crab user still alive. Overall, aside from DPS, Booyah is better, but the booyah options at the moment are even worse than the strike options. That being said, I don't really want strikes to be buffed because making its traits more extreme or making those traits more reliable would leave a bad impact on other specials, notaly HP and displacement specials. And Vanilla slosher would probably be broken then.
That's a weird way to spell silly kitties.
Have a strong feeling that the next hydra kit will have beakons since the new ballpoint has mines like the old hydra
What's the background music?
Chopscrewey, Inkopolis Galleria (Ammo Knights), Kinetosis, I Am Octavio FE4RME Remix
This is a personal take I’m not the biggest fan of the ball point gameplay wise and how it has the whole short range and long range gimmick since it kinda makes hydra and mini feel almost obsolete, I have the same feelings for the s-blast’92. In terms of meta it’s dam good, it once again has good range and can protect its self in close quarters. And it equiped with a killer set with fizzy bomb and ink jet. The only thing it struggles in is in inking turf from afar.
I kinda get what you mean, but I disagree, currently S-blast is outclassed by range due to its long range AoE, and luna/clash wouldn't be viable even if S-blast didn't exist, in that same regard, ballpoint doesn't really compete with hydra, hydra is just too slow to keep up with the meta in S3. Lastly, heavy does still have a niche in S3, it outputs more specials for its team and has better paint than ballpoint, making it better to compensate for low paint weapons.
@@Vi-spl Okay I could get behind that to some degree I guess. I just have personal issue with how those weapons are designed in particular. I suppose it’s more of a balancing issue. And really the s-blast’92 is out classed by the range blaster. I thought it was doing well.
@@afroling2096 S-blast isn't terrible, but it struggles with consistency and relies on the short range mode to hit behind stage geometry, meanwhile range is much more consistent thanks to the AoE, its not in a terrible spot, but a new kit is definitely needed.
When I was grinding for a Sorella Brella build I noticed it was suspiciously easy to get S-Blasts compared to Range Blasters which were an absolute nightmare.
it's crazy how just making inkjet's jump heigh better and it's blast radius better made it a top tier.
Splash and Bp are probably the best top tiers we had in a long time in splatoon
Probably, yes.
Sadly
The best top tier we ever had is probably Splat Brella (make a video on that next?)
