    I have painted cloth doll shoes with acrylic mixed with fabric medium. I stuffed the shoes with paper towels. I did several coats and let dry. They turned out great and look like leather with a coat of matte sealer. I just wondered if it will work with felt. Guess I’ll experiment. 😂

    Gorgeous! Is alum or an equivalent necessary for the color to hold? Would you be able to use citric acid or vinegar instead do the soak in process have to take place in the sun? I’m just thinking about the winter months in MI haha

    • @DanoDoesThings
      @DanoDoesThings Месяц назад

      The alum isn’t technically necessary, but it will help your colours really sink into the fabric and hold. It also doesn’t need to be in the sun but it’ll take a lot longer! Again the heat just helps the process along!

    Lovely video thank you! Does the felt backing have to be wool too? or will regular, cheap craft felt from walmart work?

    • @DanoDoesThings
      @DanoDoesThings 2 месяца назад

      Great question! The regular felt will work, but I do find it can be pretty thin so you may want to double up! Wool blend felt does make the felting process easier though, the wool roving sticks to it just a bit better.

    If you can get your hands on white viscose felt and fiber reactive dye, the colors you can achieve are stunning. But these are all such specialized things if you don’t own the dye stuff already. Thanks for this experiment, I never would have thought to try makeup. I came here looking for some ways to color stiff polyester or acrylic felt. (I suspect there is no perfect way.)

    • @DanoDoesThings
      @DanoDoesThings 4 месяца назад

      I have gotten into some natural dyeing after making this video so I may try applying a mordant of some kind to make the felt more receptive to the color! I’ll definitely look into fiber reactive dyes too! Thank you!

    My first felt ghost looks dumb and my pumpkin...I wanna give up but what kind of scissors to you use? How do u keep felt sliding on pattern paper?

    • @DanoDoesThings
      @DanoDoesThings 4 месяца назад

      Oh dear! I hope you didn’t give up! Felt is hard to cut without pretty sharp scissors. I personally use Penco Stainless Steel but anything sharp will do! Usually when I’m cutting patterns on felt I will trace the paper pattern onto the felt (with a black or white pen depending on the color of the felt!) and then remove the paper before cutting. I agree, trying to cut paper and felt together is rough! If you want to try that you can always pin the paper to the felt too!
