I've lived in The 'Couve for over 50 years and so far I cannot agree with any of your statements. If anyone reads this, ask someone who has lived here for more than a couple of years. She's got a very limited view.
That’s fabulous that you have lived here for 50 years… not everyone can say that but that also means you haven’t had a chance to experience somewhere different. Coming from the Midwest almost 10 years ago it was a huge change in lifestyle and culture out here on the west coast. I hear that same thing from people that relocate here from other parts of the United States. I’m also guessing you haven’t watched any of my other videos like when I explain why so many people like to retire here… 🤷🏻♀️ Thanks for watching!
Will they be expanding the waterfront development eastward (e.g., south of Fisher's Landing) or will it be more confined to closer to downtown area? Thanks! Very informative.
Good question! As far as I know right now they are working on the downtown area only. A lot of the waterfront down that way is residential and they also have to deal with the railroad as well.

Hi @raphaelsow9407 yes there is public transportation in Vancouver. Maybe not as much as other large cities. A lot of people like to use bicycle as a means of transportation here as well. No literail or train in Vancouver like there is in Portland. There is Clark College that is close to downtown Vancouver and Washington State University is on the north end of Vancouver by the Salmon Creek area. I never said I didn’t like it… just sharing my experiences with others.
Main effect on us, was to quit STR and move to MTR (30-days or more). We've remained well booked, and STR just wasn't worth the added costs and aggravation. But by making life more difficult for Mom & Pop operations like ours, City of Vancouver loses out on the taxes and fees AirBnB collects and forwards to the city.
Yeah sounds like the move was a good one for you. I am curious how many people applied for the permits.

For someone who is LBTQIA, which would be safer in terms of laws and attitudes? We are “escaping TX” before next leg session and my 2 young adult children are LGBTQIA. I will be working remotely. They want Portland, I am more comfortable in Vancouver, but worry it’s more conservative there.
Hi Daisy! I believe the links you are looking for are in the description. As for which city in your situation I know the person that runs Vancouver Pride and they are lovely. They also own the Dandelion Tea house in Downtown Vancouver so go check it out! Honestly I think you will find more trouble as a whole not just LGBTQIA trouble in Oregon. The law enforcement in Portland is pretty crappy. Vancouver is more conservative than Portland yes but Portland is so liberal they do nothing so I would worry more about being in Portland. Also if your kids want to visit you can get from DT Vancouver to DT PDX in maybe 15 mins so it’s not far plus as a remote worker you will benefit from the taxes which your kids even if they are adults may still not completely understand the affect taxes have on income.
Why would anyone want to live in Washington or Oregon they are discussing liberal states.
You have very obviously NEVER been to Battle Ground then 🤣🤣 They call it Vantucky for a reason.

The northwest is an excellent place to raise a family, and live where you can breath the air. The politicians “must go away”, they are all corrupt, and have become stinky & greedy. Yes, Brush Prairie is super beautiful! And thank you for the kind words. I’ve had my gauges forever and honestly I forget I have them most days. Being in corporate America I had to hide them which was annoying but being a realtor people seem to not care or at least care less. 🤷🏻♀️😅

I used to live in the Couve, and I think it's really exciting what they're doing with the waterfront! Not only is this a big draw for SW Washington, but for the entire Portland metro area as well. Think about it, there are over 3 million people within an hour's drive of this beautiful area, so if you ask me, they shouldn't be shy about building a nice skyline to reflect on the Columbia. I really hope that the designers of the new Interstate Bridge will keep in mind that it will be the very face of Vancouver and plan accordingly.
I’m stoked too! They have been working so hard to transform the area and the vibe is so amazing down there! I can’t wait for summer time again. Honestly it’s one of my favorite places to work and make calls from since it’s so beautiful. I need to do a video update on all the development so people can see what’s comin!

Is Portland cheaper than Vancouver for purchasing condos?
Hi @Dramaticentrance well that really depends on what amenities you are looking for, what the HOA cost per month is because that is also a factor in this equation, how well the HOA is funded and the property taxes. A condo may be $150,000 but have a $700 a month HOA where another condo will be $250,000 and have a $325 HOA. When lenders look at what you qualify for the HOA figures into that number so for a single family home you can qualify for $300,000 but a condo with a $400 HOA you many only qualify for $230,000. Property taxes I have seen are a bit lower in WA as well. The HOA funding requirements are different between the two states and a poorly funded HOA can cost a home owner big bucks in assessments for repairs. All in all I would say just considering sales price they are even because their median sales prices are similar (not taking into account HOA cost, HOA funding or property taxes into consideration) but I like the tax benefits of WA better. So when you roll it all up it's truly a condo by condo basis but with lower property taxes and no income tax in WA (you have to work in WA too to get that) I would say Washington is a smidge more affordable.
No state income tax for now! I hope that doesn’t change before my husband and I head into retirement. We’ve lived in WA King County for 24 years and while it always was an expensive place to live IMO, having no state income is really great especially since we get over taxed in many other areas. Let’s hope the no state tax stays that way. Another great video! 👍
Yeah the no Income tax is nice and does help but the high sales tax kinda sucks but if you don't need to purchase a lot that's good. I also love Vancouver because you can drive over to Oregon and have no sales tax.
