    Thanks Abdullah for the video, this is really helpful! I will have 7 hours layover in Istanbul airport, arriving at 4.50am Saturday morning, and next flight is 12pm. A female solo traveler , am thinking to go Blue mosque (Sultanahmet area) for a quick sightseeing around the vicinity. If you don't mind me asking , do you think is possible to use metro to go back and forth from airport > Sultanahmet > and airport again within just limited hours of free time? (assuming i need to be physically at the airport by 10am and commuting time with metro perhaps take 1 hour? or 1.5hour for one way journey) How long actually is the journey to Sultanahmet from Istanbul international airport using metro? How much is taxi fare from Istanbul international airport to Sultanahmet if you know? How much Turkish Lira would you recommend to have in cash for breakfast and to purchase a metro card to use public transport? Seems there are a lot of walking for interchange station from one to another, just wonder the amount of time needed to go to each metro stations too :) Thank you Abdullah! :)

    I just visited Istanbul. Wonderful city. Wonderful people. Delicious food and a great Metro System. So many wonderful things. However, what Turkey did to Hagia Sofia is a disgrace. It should NOT be a Mosque…the Blue Mosque is right next door, the Blue Mosque is beautiful and it’s huge. Plus, in Istanbul, there is a Mosque every 100 meters. Hagia Sofia should be appropriately renovated, its Catholic heritage restored, the building have the birds and cats removed,it be cleaned/restored, and the icons restored. Charge 50€ to enter…but Hagia Sofia should NOT be a mosque! It would be in Istanbul’s interest and attract more tourists. It should be a secular museum with its restored Catholic religious beauty. Love Turkey and its people; if you want what’s best for your nation and tourism and be attractive to the Western tourists - this is what you need to do.

    • @AbdullahsParents

      Really thanks for your thoughts and opinions. Btw did you visit inside of Hagia Sophia? If yes how did you feel to visit old architecture?

    • @thomassalvi
      @thomassalvi 6 месяцев назад

      @@AbdullahsParents: I thought it was well organized for tours…however, the condition of Hagia Sofia is abysmal. It was gut wrenchingly painful to see how poorly that building was maintained. We are talking about one of the most significant structures built in the history of mankind. Cats and birds are defecating inside. Weeds and plants are growing between the huge stones outside. Turkey needs to treat Hagia Sofia with the respect and honor it deserves. They’d get much more tourism were they to restore the building to what Boris and Gleb saw when they said upon entering, “They knew not whether they were in Heaven or on earth”.

    Turkey doesn't seem to like intermodal integration! Some journeys can take an extremely long time! If arriving from Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, you can take the metro line all the way to its end in Kadıköy and take the ferry to Eminönü and then take the tram. You can also take the Marmaray service via Ayrılık Çeşmesi if you prefer to do the whole thing by rail.

      Yeah it's an oversight. Probably has to do with the way the contracts are prepared. The airport contract is seperate from the Metro and the airport was finished earlier while the Metro was still constructing. Having 2 unrelated construction sites in the same area could be problematic for organization. Regardless there needs to be a people mover in İsanbul Airport because the station is way too far.

    • @Da_Big_G
      @Da_Big_G 8 месяцев назад

      I've noticed that about Turkish nitermodal connections. It is a similar situation with Sabiha Gökçen International Airport. I also notice long walks between stations in other places, e.g. the station in Gaziantep and the tram stop serving the station.

    • @newaulk

      @@AbdullahsParents Yes the metro line from Istanbul airport to city center was built by the Chinese in 6;months. It took a little longer for trains to start travelling on the line. That line is now fully operational. There's a caveat to using Chinese contractors: The supervision and contract terms have to be very tight. The Chinese contractors are capable but they will do a loose job if you allow it to happen. Case in point Dhaka BRT Line 3.
