I tried Making a HORROR Game to Win $10,000
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.3 месяца назад
I have been invited by @Blackthornprod to compete in a $10,000 game development competition! I had to compete against 5 talented developers, so I had to cook some stuff if I wanted to get my hands on that cash prize. In this video, I would like to share with you how I tried creating an ambitious horror game, what mistakes I made during the development, and what I learned at the end of it all. C...
Moonleaf studio YouTube channel updates
Просмотров 1753 месяца назад
I made some major changes to this RUclips channel - since the content that I'm currently uploading is not always related to the Moonleaf studio projects, I have decided to rename the channel from Moonleaf studio to ShorteDev. It felt like an obvious solution because I have some cool ideas for future videos where I'm planning to work on projects outside of Moonleaf studio bounds. And, of course,...
We Made A Game About Getting Abducted By UFO | Devlog
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.6 месяцев назад
We made a game about getting abducted by UFOs, but it’s not what you think! The world right now is going crazy about aliens and UFOs in particular. And since people are so into aliens right now, there just has to be an increase in the audience who would like to play UFO-themed games. So we tried to do an experiment - create and release a game to Steam in less than two months. To make a cool gam...
I Made A Zombie Survival Game With Cars In 10 Hours
Просмотров 91410 месяцев назад
I took part in another Pass the Game challenge! In less than 10 hours, I had to come up with a game idea and start working on foundational features, so that the other developers could have something to expand upon. The project idea that I came up with was a zombie survival game where you have to run over the zombies with your car and use in-game shop tokens to purchase upgrades to your vehicle....

2 fits halve the best
Convergent design evolution ori, rainworld, hollow knight, this Solving the same problem with the same idea. Carcerization
Fantastic devlog!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it 🙌
The deer and bird spirits look awesome!
🔥
Oh... I was waiting for the moment when you changed the horns to be coming out more from the front of the head and maybe even branch out to avoid the character looking too similar to the knight... and then you just didn't really address that problem at all. Huh?
Suggestion, make your models non symmetric. It helps shows personality and differences in the characters. It will also help you stay away from hollow knight comparisons. Regardless this looks fun!
Thank you for the feedback! That's a great idea to experiment with 😁
Nice! Great job enjoyed this
Honest feedback: the running and jumping animation still seems a bit too stiff in terms of the animations themselves, the trajectory and movement looks good!
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I think you're right - we will most likely need to do some more adjustments for the movement animations
how long till you think it’ll be out? i’d buy it straight away (:
That's so awesome to hear, thank you! 💙 We're doing everything we can to finish the game by the end of this year!
@@ShorteDev ah ok thank you!!
this game is not unique game somebody did make this game before you did ruclips.net/video/HilEflm6p9k/видео.html timestamp 1:45.
What's wrong with it not being completely unique?
@@ZnakezTv The problem isn't the game is "unique". The problem is it's tow basic but it reminds me of fire and woter game on mathgames website. I thinking about the developer hopefully make some unique enemies , bosses and opsticals.
The idles look very cool. But sorry to say this the chars still slide like robot and doesn't look so different than before to me =/, a possible lead could be to look into animal 2D animation concepts like "leading movement with the head" and other 2D animation concept like "exagerate movement". I'm sure you'll end up nail it !!
The concept art is very cool, but the 3D model doesn't follow the concept enough =/
Yeah, we're still learning how to do proper character keyframe animations, so it might look off in some places. I will try looking into the concepts you mentioned, thanks! As for the models, It was quite difficult following the concept one-by-one, because when we tried to do that the in-game characters didn't look that good 😵💫We kind of ended up having to do some adjustments here and there to make stuff readable. But I totally get what you mean!
We need an indication to how close we are to dying
We actually do have indications set in place for that. For example, when the characters get too far away from one another, the screen's colors are drastically adjusted and the sound feels like it's coming from underwater
The later concepts for the deer and bird evolutions look awesome!
First
I am the first to leave a comment, I'm not going to just say first. So here we are
you are 2nd
Thank you for watching the devlog! Hopefully you enjoyed it and maybe even learnt something new 😁 If you’d like to support us, please consider wishlisting Halve on steam! store.steampowered.com/app/1906430/Halve/?Devlog02C
2 looks cool
What was that article/document about character control that you mentioned at @6:30? That looks pretty interesting.
It's David's Starchan's platforming tips and tricks article - www.davetech.co.uk/gamedevplatformer 😊
Super happy you've made a second devlog, game looks great! Don't feel pressured into making more devlogs though, focus on making the best game you can!
This is like an optimized and newer version of the old fireboy and watergirl coop game that everyone played on the web before. It looks so smooth, cant wait to play it!
Awesome, really cool to hear that you like the game! 😄
Would love to play this, looks really fun nice movement too
What a lovely game! Thanks for the paper on player movement I will credit you in my next devlog for sure ❤
Awesome, thanks! ❤
Love the graphics!
Very nice work! Interesting to see where this takes the whole team. Keep it up!
nice video, the article also looks very interesting but for me the list with the checkmarks of the prototype on the top right are all named helper_name_x. Anyone else had this problem and could fix it?
Glad you liked the video! That's strange, I did not have any issues like that - maybe it has something to do with the web browser app that you're using?
Can't wait for RELEASE
We're trying our best to make the release happen by the end of this year!
Super happy to be a part of this! 🙏
Super happy to have you! 😄
Very informative! I like the new video format! Curious to see what kind of tools you have cooked up in your future devlogs
Glad to hear that you liked the new video format! I do have some plans to share what kind of tools we've prepared in the future devlogs 😀
🌘🍃
Damn I really like how slow the combat looked, I feel like changing that will remove what makes the game interesting
Yo, are you lithuanian?
Jo
Hey, yeah!
The gameplay shown in the Blackthorn video was pretty nice. You are good in doing this
Thanks!
@@ShorteDev Np!
I saw you on the 100 devs make a game video and your impact on that game was AMAZING! Didžiausios sėkmės tau ir tavo studijai :)
Ačiū! ❤️
I saw the "BlackthornProd" video, and I loved your concept of your game, I saw that you only have 1k subs, your so underrated, You got yourself a new subscriber :)
Glad to hear that! Thanks! 😁
i actually really enjoyed the combat that u had in there although ya a dash and parry would be tight. But dude the audio was sooooo GOOD made everything feel put very together. Especially the effect u added when u get a new impairment. Overall I think the game has a lot of potential. Also ya i fall into that trap a lot too of waiting too long to watch someone play. Such an underrated tip. Great video!
I worked a lot on the sound design, so it's awesome to hear that you liked it! 😊
Ngl I was hoping you would at least make it to the semi-finals Good game though
Thanks!
Since you owned none of that money you in fact lost zero dollars.
I was SHOCKED when you didn't go through. Haven't watched this video yet, but unless the gameplay was super buggy you definitely should've made it through.
Yeah, I mainly screwed up with the combat system stuff
Whoo, still you made a great game! Congratulations on that dude! It is still a great progress.
Thanks man! 🔥
Your gameplay loop was so creative, your connection to the theme was on point, and your visuals and atmosphere were insanely OP after one week. Way to get some productive takeaways out of it though!
Thank you! 🙌
Shame you didn't go through, but well done on taking it on the chin and turning it into a learning experience for all of us! :)
Well, it is what it is 😄 Gotta try to learn from my mistakes and just move forward
I'm sure that eventually you will win :) Keep it up brother!
Not even planning to stop!
The parts you made were epic
Glad you liked it!
10k
These 7 days were insane - I didn't know that I could function on so little sleep, haha. 😴 I hope you enjoyed this video and maybe even learnt something new 😶 now go and watch the main competition's video if you haven't watched it yet! Btw, if you're interested, be sure to check out our Moonleaf studio's main project Halve - store.steampowered.com/app/1906430/Halve/?Comments
Good luck 🤗
Excited for the future of the channel! 🙌
Wow😮
Hey dude love the content if you could make your own in depth 3d tutorial for unity. That would be cool I like how you did stuff in that 5v5 dev match
