Ilja Scheps: Rachmaninov The Bells Op.35: IV. Lento Lugubre “Hear the tolling of the bells”
Aber diese Etüden sind was ganz spezielles.
The old trope about Asians being technically competent but just not "getting" Western music may have been true when Isaac Stern went to China (in 1979) but at this point is pure nonsense and frankly is racist nonsense. Get a friend to play you some of the great Asian pianists' recordings blind, the way orchestras now audition players to eliminate bias. It will be a revelation to you.
I would laugh my a$$ off if this guy was teaching me, he makes some funny noises LOL
I would like to understand what he is saying….
She does not listen the entire flow..disconnected
Magnificent.
Probably a good suggestion for this young girl is to work with singers, of course good singer, to feel vocal line , phrase ,breath ,and timing . Play some operatic music from Mozart.
The best interpretation of this wonder by Chopin in which extended with enchanting variations, which you professor, exalts, i repeat, in a unique way. Tank you for your prestigious listening.
Many, many congratulations, Prof. Scheps! Now I understand why Olga is a phenomenon...
Bösendorfer beats Steinway
Wonderful teacher.I want to learn with him
Super teacher
Some things are out of Fashion, I was told, however believe only Casi, 😎
I have to say ure not bad at commenting nor completely right 😀😁😎😍
She plays it beautifully you old fool! Go into retirement immediately….
Amazing
I write my own music, that makes me feel special, believe it or not!
That was actually amazing.
To all you armchair critics... of course she hasn't got it exactly right yet, she's still learning. The point of the video is I believe to appreciate the skill of the teacher, and watch the progress of the student. She's obviously talented and not afraid of hard work. She'll get there in the end. Don't be so hard on her, it brings no credit to you.
Danke 🙏, Mr. Prof. Scheps
What a wonderful lecture! Thank you Professor Scheps for creating this immensely useful video which is a tremendous help for us in trying to understand and appreciate the secrets and beauty of these great Chopin etudes. We look forward to many more lectures like this from you. Thanks so much!
Wonderful.
Can’t say enough how much I loved this! I loved the swinging of the giant bell in his motions. Also the Professor’s touch is impeccable. I hear immediately the difference in the sound when he plays versus the student.
A great way to understand what he's talking about with the overtones, or harmonics, is to silently depress the RH E and G then play three measures of the LH without sustaining pedal and see how they sound after you've let go the LH. Try it!
Guy is too old 😂
With age comes wisdom and experience. Wonder how old you'll be when you leave the planet and how you'll feel about a comment like that if you make it to his age?
Greetings, could you hear and subscribe to my RUclips channel with some of my classical works, I would be happy to get some resonance and support? Hope you like it, Thanks in advance. ruclips.net/video/hjqyrqJh8DA/видео.html
What a superb masterclass - Professor Scheps has such helpful technical insights about producing the right tone and phrasing for this extraordinarily rich and expressive piece. And he communicates in such an understanding and gentle manner.
the kids don't get deep enough, especially for Rachmaninoff. She tries to but it never comes off.
she too glib for the pathos of Rachmaninoff
What do you mean? What kids?
musically, the kid is constitutionally unable to plumb the depths. It's a cultural conditioning issue. Far-Easterners are relatively understated emotionally, reserved.
Possibly the most ridiculous, uninformed comment I’ve ever read. Fair if that’s your objective assessment of this pianist, but to posit a general deficiency in musical interpretation on the basis of cultural upbringing is just ignorant.
the thing about far-Easterners is that their nervous systems are not amenable to the spirit of Western music. They don't have the pathos, the depth. They gloss over the depth of the details, the minute emotionalism. Technically, they're fine. But doesn't technique include what I am talking about.
playing espressivo is constricted for this kid. Russian espressivo is even more unreachable.
racist
@@doritoapollo123 "There is man and woman, and there are differences between them." - "Sexist." "There are Frenchmen and Germans and Italians and Russians, and they are of different mentality and cultural character." - "Nationalist." (Meant as a bad thing.)
@@germanchris4440 saying that people from the east have less emotional depth is a statement without clear scientific evidence, it almost suggests as if people from the east are mindless robots without sympathy, even though they are no less emotional than europeans, sure there are some ppl like that but its generalizing
Great, really great Musician. Awesome
Was ist da bitte virtuos 😆auch Chopin hatte Unterricht und sogar studiert was keine Kunst ist ❕nach Klimpern lernen 🤦🏻
🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻😆😆😆🙄
I learnt a lot thank you❤️
The pianist is the accompanists for much of the opening pages. I felt the “Student” was a bit too aggressive. I type as I’m hearing it. Waiting for commentary. Thanks for posting this.
Иля, now I want to hear you play the whole thing! Can you not make a recording of you playing this MM on this Bösendorfer?
es muy bello
❤❤❤
I really enjoyed the lesson
Einfach wunderbar
What an amazing teacher and pianist! So kind, encouraging, respectful and humble. He really brings out the heart-wrenching expressiveness and gorgeous tone quality of the piece.
If you turn on subtitles and then auto-translate in settings you can read what the professor is saying in English or German. Thank you professor we are glad you are well.
Big of blablabla from another professor
He looks like he could play Joker 😂
I have to say, I dislike this style of teaching. It’s very superficial. It’s just showing how to do something and not why to do it.
At her level there's quite a bit of "why" conveyed when he shows her "how" to do something, by virtue of a lot of unspoken shared knowledge (musical, piano-playing physiology, etc.) between the two. And, ultimately, she may discard some of his recommendations as everyone's "ideal" interpretation won't be the same. But this type of teaching would indeed be superficial if the student was less advanced.
My cup of tea!
Melodize it. That’s the winner
