Yui's first Tournament in 1996
Yui's first tournament in 1996 at the Chinatown Community Center basement. A lot to laugh about 20-yrs later. Lot's of mistakes made - locking arms out, over-extension of moves, generally all over the place. But took 1st place in Advance Division due to youthful energy, anger (lots of it for a reason), and having hair, LOL! Lots of familiar faces in the video - Dixon, Tony, Peter, Li-Ling, Can-Ye, Juan, and Su.

    These 10 Killing Hands of Hung Gar are really dangerous if you apply in real life threatening situations, it must be practiced with caution, if you use it properly it will be a valuable self defense technique.

    As someone who has studied Hung Gar in my past, it is a great video. These are great self defense techniques , but need to be supplemented with regular sparring by the students. Once they know how to spar , figure out distance vs a non compliant opponent , their confidence ,and ability to apply these techniques will improve.

    I realize these are all static moves, but at least they are against a looping right cross (very instinctual attack) and not a stepping karate lunge pump with the arm left out. Very cool.

    • @NewYorkHungGa
      @NewYorkHungGa 4 года назад

      Good observation War Priest. Concepts are important here because you can’t demo every type of attack. But the application concepts can be adjusted to different situations. And not every concept will work for a specific situation, that’s why being to adjust is so important.

    • @NewYorkHungGa
      @NewYorkHungGa 4 года назад

      88KUNGFUMAN Hey buddy, Fong Lung Choy emigrated to Peru way back after he left China, so from what I’ve seen, their forms don’t seem to have the usual HG flavor the LSW and TF lineages do. They are very fight oriented moves. I’m not an expert in this HG style but the form’s name is derived from the Cantonese. In the TF lineage, we have techniques called Sup Ji (Sip Du in Toisan), based on the crosses hands and they are not CLF based. But the more I learn, the more these styles seem to cross over from one to another; who knows who borrowed what from who 😊
