I recently completed my masters and thought to myself, I don't want to be stuck behind a desk for the rest of my life. This led me to the creation of this channel. I'm at most peace in this world when I am in the woods or out on the lake.
This channel will consist of hunting, fishing, gardening, DIY projects, my family sauna cabin, and anything else related to the outdoors.
I can't wait to start this journey and who knows, maybe one day, I will be able to make this lifestyle a sustainable reality.

South Dakota Pheasant Hunting Public Land - December 2024
My Dad, my dog harper, and I snuck out for a late season South Dakota Pheasant Hunt. We had a blast and had great company but the birds were a little tricky. Still ended up getting some roosters on the ground. Thanks Shon for another awesome trip.

Last Steelhead Fishing Trip of the Spring
Просмотров 3427 месяцев назад
I had a couple hours to go chase some steelhead before walleye opener. I went to a river I haven't been to in a couple of years and had some luck hooking into some nice fish. It would have been great to land one but anyone who steelhead fishes knows how tough that can be especially this unpredictable Spring. Thanks for watching.

That Harper can do it all!
Looks like you had a fun trip!
It was a great trip!
What time of the year was this ?
Springtime that is the main run for fish on the North Shore. There's a small fall run too but I don't know anyone who fishes it
Is there any good trout fishing up there during December / January? I’m returning to MN and want to winter fish
You could always ice fish for trout. There are designated trout lakes stocked with brookies splake and rainbows. Also there are lake trout lakes. The first that opens are trout lakes inside the BWCA Jan 1 I believe. Outside the BWCA opens around the 15th of January. I'd have to look at the regs to double check.
That dog doesn’t have a license
Shhh don't tell the DNR haha
I thought for sure I knew which lake this was until you got to the small lake.
What lake did you think??
Wow i have never seen any easy money grouse like that never ever! Tamed grouse or what.
Haha just opening weekend, unpressured grouse in the middle of nowhere!
I live in northern minnesota and no better place to be this time of year is sittin in a swamp...Awesome video and a nice Minnesota Mounter there brotherman
Thank you! I couldn't agree more, I love this country up here. A deer is always a bonus. Goodluck getting that swamp buck!
Nice MN buck! Tough hunting up here!
Appreciate it! It sure is, you got to work for them up here haha!
Great buck! Congratulations! Any thoughts why no deer by your hunting shack? Thanks for the video! Have a great thanksgiving! Looks like a fun hunt with dad!
Thanks Tom!! Bad winters paired with tons of wolves in the area have diminished the population. I only saw wolf and moose tracks this fall. Hopefully get some snow and see if there are any deer at all. Have a great thanksgiving too!
Heck yeah, tagged out at the cabin!
Heck ya! Thanks Ty, have you had any luck?
I don't deer hunt anymore, used to go at my parent's place outside Moose Lake but don't have them anymore so lost that area. Decided to do waterfowl instead after that addiction started coming on strong this year.
I got ya! Not enough time to do everything! Wish there was haha. Sucks that we really didn''t get to hunt much of the migration this year in northern MN.
Great video! Lots of great fun to be had in the north woods
Thanks Tony!
Hay could you please tell me where this at. Would love to take my son out grouse hunting?
Hey, sorry can't put my favorite grouse trails out on the internet. But, if you get an app like on X and look for old logging roads or atv trails on public land out off the beaten path you will find birds! If you have any more questions I'd love to help and put you guys on some birds. What area of the state are you looking at hunting?
Where did you get your springer?
I don't really know... Long story short my friends told this breeder I'd take a puppy, I had no idea, picked her up the next day lol
Fun day of hunting, was going to ask if you have seen any woodcock yet?
Thanks Tom! Yes, been seeing some woodcock usually they are south of us by now but flushed some again this weekend.
Bad day to be a grouse in MN!
You know it lol!
Fun video! Were you hunting ducks on superior? That was a fun combo day!
Appreciate it Tom! Ducks were on LOTW
Casting and a blasting adventures for you! Awesome work and good job getting into those Buffalos!
Also that poop might be an otter toilet. Typically black and full of fish scales and crayfish parts (depending on what they've been eating).
Thanks Ty!! I appreciate it and I think you are spot on with the otter. That was exactly what it looked like.
I run into a handful of them from time to time trapping beavers for landowners. You're welcome! Glad to see you and Harper out getting after it this Fall!
I believe that's a snowshoe not a jackrabbit , nice shot like your video's
Thanks I appreciate it! That is definitely a white tailed jackrabbit though. Much bigger than a snowshoe and I don't think there are any snowshoe hare in South Dakota where i was hunting this trip.
Hahaha I know where your at been fisihing it for 30+ years great in winter.
I love it! Always fun when you recognize a place from film. I love that neck of the woods
Your videos are not that clear as to what your shooting at
You mean the resolution is low quality?
Is Harper a French Brittany??
She is a springer spaniel!
You and Harper have definitely caught the waterfowl bug there! Glad to see you're getting some woodies and geese!
Haha we sure have! Been too hot to grouse hunt very much! Hope you're still getting on the birds
I just like watching Harper try to manhandle a goose her size back to you haha. I got on a nice WI woodie jump shoot yesterday and a bonus ringneck drake and have been hunting the FDL Reservation the past week
Love to hear it keep it going!
Love the vidoes man! Do you happen to live along the North Shore in MN?
Thanks man I appreciate that! Yes, I do
@@hoganinthewild8468 sweet. I live in Duluth. Let me know if you’d ever want to get out hunting, I’ve been getting on ducks pretty good this year in our area.
Hell ya man glad to hear you've been getting on some ducks!! I'll let you know! It's my first year really tackling waterfowl solo a bit so I have a lot to learn.
@@hoganinthewild8468 I’m learning as well, I’ve done it for the past two seasons and have just started being more successful this year! I’ve got a canoe and a good amount of decoys. Not sure if you ever get a WI license but there is some good water right over the border.
Fun video! Do hunt on private land?
Appreciate it Tom! No it's all public
Didn't know about them treeing.on windy days. Will have to pay more attention to that.
Yep! It has been very noticeable over the last couple years that a higher majority will tree immediately. One guess I have is that they only notice my dog and not myself so they feel more comfortable?
Would have loved to see your Camp setup. I'm heading to Northern MN in 2 weeks. Canvas Tent grouse camp sounds interesting. This year I rented a cabin.
I'll have to show the setup one video! Best of luck and enjoy the cabin!
Thanks for the video, dog is doing great!
Thanks Tom! She's been spoiled with extra treats lately
No matter the size of the bird, Harper is up to the task of retrieving!
Haha for sure! I honestly wasn't sure if she would get that goose or not. Was definitely happy when she pulled the goose to shore
@@hoganinthewild8468 gotta be the biggest thing she's retrieved there! You'll enjoy the goose meat for sure!
For sure, already ate it! How'd you do?
Limit of wood ducks, 2 teal, and a coot for the opener weekend on brand new bodies of water that I'd scouted. Next week will be trying out some areas above HWY 210 until the central zone opens up again.
That's awesome!! Congrats
Harper and I are definitely upland hunters so don't judge too much on the waterfowl, trying to figure it out a little more this year
I hunted partidge in the UP of Michigan until I was 35 yrds old. Owned 7 Spingers (one at a time) since I was 5 yrs old. Started hunting when I was 10. It's no good if your dog flushes a bird that is out of your shot range. What makes Springers particularly effective is their close loving bond with you. They will only hunt out so far ahead. If they got too far out, I would train them by ducking down in a hollow. Very quickly they realized that the visual bond between you and them had been broken. They litterally panic and backtrack until they find you (only takes a few seconds). When reunited they love the crap out of you and then endeavor to stay in closer, so that that visual bond won't be broken again. There is nothing more exciting then wing shooting. Hunting alone, partidge will usually out smart you because they know where you are before you know where they are. But, when your hunting with a high energy Springer, the bird doesn't notice you becasue of this CRAZY dog that's after them. When they flush, then they see you and very quickly put a tree between you and them. You only have a split second to shot. So the gun has to be on target as soon as it is raised to your shoulder. There is no time to aim. It has to be glandular! Takes lot of practice throwing the gun to your shoulder at home aiming at a knot on the wall.
She does great early season but when the leaves fall she starts to wander a little bit. They are special dogs that's for sure! She's got me a lot of birds and if I was a better shot we would have a lot more haha. Thanks for the comment
Great video, what county are you hunting?
Appreciate it! St. Louis County
Is this public land or do you manage this? New to the channel - sending a subscribe your way!
Public land. Fortunately, northern MN is full of public land opportunities. I appreciate the support thanks for the subscribe!!
@@hoganinthewild8468 very cool! I live down in Georgia and read we have very little grouse here. We got a bunch of quail down here but much easier to hunt on managed private land.
You have some access to some good spots then I hope. I have never hunted quail but always been on the bucket list. Especially Mearns quail in the southwest!
@@hoganinthewild8468 quail is fun. They’re a ground bird like grouse. Highly recommend you look into guided tours with you if you don’t mind spending some moolah. It was like $300 per person for 4 hours but great experience if you have kids or family you want to introduce to it. Great eating too
Never heard “great dog”. My next hunting dog instead of “great dog” I’m going to say most excellent dog…you are a supreme girl lololol
Theres times when she's a good dog and times when shes a great dog! Hunting as hard as she did in the 80 degree weather she was being a great dog haha
What shot do you use in the early season vs late season??
I mostly just run 7 1/2 or 8 all season long. Whatever i can get my hands on. Sometimes 6's. Not really dependent on the season. 6 could be probably argued for early in the year to push through the cover.
Fun video, keep ‘em flying!
Appreciate it Tom!
You and Harper are on the board for '24!
We sure are! You getting out for duck opener?
@@hoganinthewild8468 hopefully at my first beaver permission property! Was out there for teal and saw dozens of wood ducks and mallards flying around.
Heck ya! Good luck
@@hoganinthewild8468 appreciate it! Hopefully the grouse woods continue to be fruitful for you this season, looking forward to your videos.
Awesome laker to start off with!
Thanks Ty! Hopefully I'll catch her again one day!
Hopefully so! I just caught my first and second ever lake trout out on Superior with Happy Hooker, so I feel the addiction
Awesome! Love to hear that!
Thanks for another fun video! That’s a beautiful lake with a great assortment of fish! The bass and trout were awesome!
Thanks for watching Tom!! I appreciate the comment! Definitely a special place.
What area are you hunting here in Minnesota?
The arrowhead
Nice looking fish and a master angler walleye!
Thanks Ty! Good weekend on the water. Hope you've been having some luck!
It's been high water, but my daughter and I got out last week off from work and lucked into a multi-species day (walleye, channel catfish, rock bass, and shorthead redhorse sucker) all from the bank.
That's awesome! Something different about catching fish from shore over a boat. I think I like it better
Thanks for the fun video! Is that the same lake you and your buddies fished on opening weekend? Very peaceful being the only boat on the lake! Moved from Cook, Mn in 2017, sure miss the north country.
Thanks Tom! Yes, it is the same area. Very blessed to have no traffic in the area. Hope you make it back up soon!
Love your videos! Beautiful fish, too!!! Thanks for sharing
Thanks! I appreciate it!
Looks like racoon...Couldn't see any incisors so not 100%...Anyways looks like you had a great day and this really inspires me to explore the NS when I get back.
Thats what I was thinking too. I appreciate the input and I hope you get out exploring soon!
wow ! nice fish! what body of water are you guys fishing?
Harper: "yeah, I've caught bigger" haha. Excellent work and some massive walters!
Haha exactly!! She's such a good boat dog now, hardly knew she was there even in all the chaos. Appreciate it Ty, hope you've been catching some fish too!
Did you get the walleye and trout in the same lake? Fun video! Keep them coming, really enjoy them!
Thanks Tom, I appreciate it! Yep the same lake, that first lake trout was 50 yds from our favorite walleye spot and we were going for walleyes haha
Good video, new subscriber
Thank you! I appreciate it
Enjoyed the video, what camera are you using if you dont mind my asking?
Just a GoPro Hero 9 Black still running strong like 4 years later haha
Can you portage wheel a kayak into the lake?
I think it would be relatively easy if you portaged into the other lake and walked it across. You might be able to drive right to the other lake even?
B&B lake! Excellent work and I appreciated the swim out to get your lure back, that's my standard attire when I jump shoot ducks on little ponds when season opens and I'm out for grouse up by Ely.
Haha appreciate it Ty! Gotta do what you gotta do lol.
Splake were on fire on the gunflint last week
Right on! Hope you caught some big ones
