Problems With Olight Warrior Mini 2
For context, an Olight Customer Service Representative asked me to take a short video of the problems I was having with the light and send it in for review by an engineer. The representative requested that I complete the following: Make sure that the barrel is fully tightened, ensure that the charging surface is cleaned, check the battery to make sure that it is correctly oriented, check to see if the light can be turned on while connected to the charger, and ensure the light is not in the lockout mode.
Olight requested that I send the video to them, but due to the file size, I was unable to send it in an email and after contacting Olight again, they suggested uploading it to RUclips and ...

    Wow! Thank you. This was a light that I nearly purchased yesterday. But decided to watch some videos on RUclips first, to see if there were any issues with this model. RUclips search feature did not even originally bring up your video. I stumbled onto it by accident. Glad I did! I can live with most of this light's short-comings. But I draw the line at a tailcap switch that just quits working on its own! Thanks qgain. You saved me about $150.oo since now I'm definitely NOT buying this light. Nor the extra proprietary batteries for it, and all of what I consider to be needed accessories from Olight for it. Can't believe how close I came to buying it.

      I have collected all sorts of flashlights over the past 20 years. We're talking literally thousands of lights. From horrendously cheap models that were tossed in as freebies when I bought other lights, to models that were obscenely expensive. Not a single one of those that has a tailcap switch (and that means most of the lights in my collection) has failed on me for no reason at all. Not one out of thousands of lights. Latest light I got is a cheap, Made in China, 9-LED, red output cluster light running off of 3AAA cells in a battery-holder. A No-name light that was labeled "Carson." Worth = $1.99 retail. Comes with a tailcap switch. It works! It just works. I have a handful of older Olight models. Including the first ever Warrior they released. All have rubber tailcap switches. All of them just work. Yes, things happen. But this?? This should never happen. My loyalty goes to companies that can get the basics right. Such as functional tailcap switches.

    I'm an electronics repair guy. I could fix the little switch and clean out the debris if the light was able to be disassembled but the tail cap button and the board underneath are entirely inaccessible (without some proprietary tool they have at Olight, I'm sure). I've had it less than a year brand new in the box and the tail cap is dead, zero response from it. I can still use the side button, but having one of the main features be completely unusable sucks. Their QC on these lights is absolute garbage for the price. Question: Did you use the turbo mode for an extended period of time? My thinking is that one of the components on the small board in the tailcap of the light either had a component die or became disconnected due to heat from the flashlight. It would be extremely odd for that to be the case but many times I could stick my light to something metal in my office to use as a background light pointed at the ceiling in turbo mode to give myself more light while soldering small components and it would stay on sometimes for 30 minutes at a time. I'm likely going to be sending mine back to Olight for repair/replacement, which sucks because I really like my Warrior Mini 2 and it's OD green but for whatever reason, it seems the tailcaps are just extremely unreliable. EDIT: After some more reading through the comments - I have another theory as well. It's possible that once the battery is so low, the tailcap does not allow the momentary or turbo feature to work. It's possible that something on the board essentially tells the light that it is/isn't charged enough and gets stuck thinking it's on low-power for some reason and prevents the tailcap from working until it thinks "it's charged". The guy below that said he let his light sit while on until it died, then recharged it and then the tailcap was working gave me the idea. Going to test and see if I can let mine die tonight and wake up, charge it and check the tail cap again.

    • @fishez17
      @fishez17 Год назад

      Thank you for your comment! I completely agree with your first paragraph and the tail cap was the main way I would use the light prior to it going out on me. In response to your question, I wouldn't use turbo mode for a super long period of time specifically to avoid any potential damage of something melting inside. Obviously that's not supposed to be an issue, but as it is already established, Olight QC isn't the best so I wanted to stay on the safe side. It is possible that some component of the light malfunctioned during the turbo mode due to heat or something. That is an entirely possible theory for sure. Thankfully, I don't have to worry about it anymore since I sent mine back and received a refund. You may have seen below in a previous comment, but I'm currently using a Streamlight Macrostream USB and am loving it so far. The video's purpose was to fulfil a request by an Olight representative to film a quick video going through a series of steps provided by them for troubleshooting purposes. After the video has been up for so long, I'm glad to see that it has been a place where folks with similar issues or circumstances can share what worked for them and develop new ideas. Thank you for your input!

    The issue Im having is that it seems as if my light is not charging. When my light starts blinking red and I put the magnetic charger on, the charger obviously is also red. • @2fast2block
      @2fast2block Год назад

      If all else was checked, all is snug, Olight chargers not going to green when fully charged is a common issue. Sometimes mine works and often it does not. At times after several hours of charging and it is still red, I can take the charger off and put it right back on then it shows green. I've gotten into the habit of getting the DC voltage with the battery out to see what the voltage is after fully charged then again after a week of daily use, then two weeks, etc, this way I know the real voltage of what the battery is. Anyway, again, their charges do charge but they are flawed in turning green when they should.
