The Rocky Mountain Rider
Добавлен 28 ноя 2022
Over the past two decades, I've dabbled in dirt biking, but never really committed to it. My first bike, a 1995 Honda CR 125, was a fantastic starting point and it's still a part of our family today. However, I've had to take breaks from dirt biking to prioritize other responsibilities. I can almost hear you asking, "What could possibly be more important than riding a dirt bike?" Up until 2022, I had been content with exploring the Colorado mountain ranges on foot. But as I ventured further, I couldn't help but wonder what lay beyond the next ridge and how far these trails stretched. That's when it hit me - I needed to experience the Rocky Mountains on a dirt bike. And let me tell you, it has been an incredible journey so far. I've visited places I never thought I'd see and conquered trails that seemed impossible years ago.

From smooth single tracks to challenging, steep ascents, there's something for every rider. My 2024 GasGas EC300 handled each trail with ease, while the powerful Husqvarna 501 kept up effortlessly. The experience of dirt biking on the new trail systems was exceptional, and my GasGas EC300 performed excellent as expected. It was awesome to ride alongside a varied assortment of motorcycles, including the Zero FX and KLX 250. The trail riding opportunities in Northern Colorado are often underestimated, and can't wait for the next adventure.

Dirt biking on the Switzerland Trail always guarantees an amazing experience. Particularly when you are accompanied by an exceptional group of riders. The GasGas EC 300 performed very well and provided an exhilarating ride. It is fast, lightweight, and agile. Perhaps a bit too agile, which is probably why I fell. Boulder's Best Dirt Biking Trail: The Switzerland Trail

Riding my 2024 GasGas EC300, I embarked on a thrilling adventure along the legendary Switzerland Trail. This historic mountain road, once a bustling train rail, served as a lifeline for mountain camps and the transportation of precious ore to Boulder CO. in the late 1880s. However, the passage of time and devastating floods took their toll, leaving parts of the railway in ruins. As I conquered ...

What happened to cool guy on the green bike?
@@judelarkin2883 He's a few minutes behind. However, he'll be in in the 3rd production because I'm saving the best for last!
I'll be there this Sunday.
@@dREaDneck_Moto Nice! Have fun out there.
Tried this last year on my crf300l. Made it to the gatekeeper just after 0:39 and turned my behind around
@@isaacgentz3319 Haha, don't feel bad! This was my 2nd attempt at it. A CRF 300 is a nice bike for most trails, without a doubt, but was not particularly designed for trails like Kelly Flats. However, maybe some lower gearing might make it more obtainable. Strong work on going for it, though. That 1st 300 yards is a little rough.
Haha thanks! Definitely was a good little bike but like you say definitely has it's limits. How do you like the gas gas, and what model was that in the video? I've been contemplating getting a beta xtrainer for trails like this, but seeing you knock out Kelly flats has me thinking about gas gas now
Excellent ride and video! I agree with dreadneck_moto below, where's your friends riding gear? At least he's wearing a helmet. I love your new video format and camera work! And I think I recognize some of those trails, is that the same area you took me?
@@nazdriderThanks, bud! Yep, that is the same place. Hoping we can get out riding again soon!
Nice riding! Guy in the jeans needs some gear, though. At least boots!
Just picked one up for $80. Barn kept and Original plastics, tires and reflectors lol
OMG! That's the best deal in town. Congrats on that.
Does it have better snap? I am having the same issue the power delivery is way to smooth and the power band feels too tall in the rev range and narrow
@@chrislunn7860 Yes, but it's not that noticeable. Just a little extra zip on the low end. I've heard the map switch is more noticeable for power delivery on these 300s.
Go Zero! haha
@@mv2woods it is an animal!
I’ve done parts of this trail but I want to try doing the whole thing on my crf250
Im going this afternoon to pick one up. It wont stay running so im have to learn to tune the carb.
These bikes are so underrated. I have 2 of them, my red 96 has a 15t front sprocket, a foam filter, freshened up top end, jetted and tuned. I run ethanol free premium and maxima 927. I weigh 255 and it will pull the front tire up relatively easy. I have hit 56mph on pavement with Enduro tires.
Where did you find your service manual? Is it an oem with part numbers?
I got the owners manual off reddit, but can't recall where I got the service manual or parts manual. If you can send me your email on InstaGram, I think the files are small enough to where I can email them to you.
And yes, it does have the OEM part numbers on there.
I don’t have Instagram, only Facebook and Messenger, but would LOVE to have that info. I think my wife has IG.
Would love one too I may eye reddit first
Nice editing with the map overlay.
Thanks! I was curious to know what others thought. Still learning the finer points of video editing...That alone is a deep pool of discovery.
Where did you enter/traillhead?
I would love a pin for this parking location. 😀
Sick new bike! What trail?
Thanks! FR 182, Pratt Creek
@@the_rocky_mountain_rider Do you get there from Redfeather?
Hi, im starting the same project 👍 Wondering if you have any specs on the carb jets? I'm missing the needle and air/fuel screw out of the carb and not having much luck finding a supplierer that can match a new needle without a jet size and I can't find any stampings on my jets....
Hello, I'm wondering if you have either an after market carb or have newer jets. Sometimes carbs off ebay won't have the jets stamped. However, as per the manual: Main jet #140 Pilot jet #17.5 Starter Jet #30 If you have Instagram, I can send you pics of the carburator specs. My handle name is The Rocky Mountain Rider. Aside from that, best of luck and please reach out if you have any questions. We have to all work together to keep the old stuff running!
Also, jet needle is a 4L6-3 Needle Jet: 0-6 Throttle Valve: 2.0 Pilot Screw: 1 1/2 Valve Seat size: 1.5 I didn't have to mess with any of this stuff really but just thought I'd give you some additional information if needed.
@@the_rocky_mountain_rider thanks for all of that info mate. Its been a mission trying to find the specs on the old girl! Its a genuine mikuni installed, but I dont know if its the original or not.... its a 28mm carb which measures up to be a VM26 or VM28 mikuni which I was going to order the 26, now I've found that they come out as a VM24 stock carb. Sometimes I think I look to far into this stuff 🙄 but.... Its all learning hey
take the phone cradle off your bars makes you look like a millenial tird
Where did you get the tires from?
If I remember correctly, I got them off ebay.
How did you get the plastics to look so good
For the white plastics: Scotch Brite pad, soap and water. The blue plastics were originally purple, but painted blue.
Where did you get your engine gaskets etc
Ebay, I believe.
I just picked up a 97 rt100. Can you tell me where you got gaskets kits etc
Congrats on the new bike. I got mine on Ebay. Also worth noting that some of the gaskets cross reference with the DT100 as well.
Love this dirtbike im rebuilding my engine now...
Awesome! And yes, they are a great bike. Best of luck.
Is there cell service out there?
Good question! I can't say for sure. I use an outreach device called ZOLEO, which allows you to text through an iridium network, similar to how you can call through a satellite phone. Aside from that, I can't recall if there was cell service through a standard network. ZOLEO Satellite Communicator - Two-Way Global SMS Text Messenger & Email, Emergency SOS Alerting, Check-in & GPS Location - Android iOS Smartphone Accessory a.co/d/97Fym0f
Ok thanks for the info
Just bought a CRF250F and I’m going here next weekend to break it in.
Nice! I'm sure you will have a nice time. Keep in mind that this OHV area is not too big, but still fun. The southwest end has some mini slot canyons that are fun to ride in. The CRF 250 is a great bike.
Is this open all year?
No, unfortunately not. Nov 1st - April 9th. www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/arp/recarea/?recid=32184
How busy does it get on the weekends? Looking to go Saturday (tomorrow) with some beginner riders
I've never seen it too bad. Usually the south end gets less traffic, while the north end being a bit more open, seems to attract more riders. Be careful otherwise, sometimes riders sneek up on you.
@@the_rocky_mountain_rider thank you for the reply. I saw you are technically only allowed to park in the parking lot but noticed other videos people with trailers parked outside the fence. My trailer is pretty big. Do you have any idea if they enforce parking outside the fence?
With the crank seals I see the crank seal under the flywheel but is there one under the clutch side? I have two bottom ends. I've swapped my top end onto the first one and it doesn't get any suction from the carb but has good compression still and I haven't swapped bottom ends yet because i'm wanting to replace crank seals beforehand. I've had this second bottom end running before but it would bog out by 4th gear and become hard to start so i ended up losing interest and selling the top end to that one to a buddy. It still shifted through all the gears and the crank and everything is pretty immaculate except the shifter cover is cracked but thats an easy swap. not trying to split the cases or even get into the clutch side if i don't have to but my plan is order crank seals and replace the one under the flywheel in the second bottom end then swap everything i need to that one and pray it works fine.
No seals on the clutch side that i recall or can see in the reassembly instructions. I woulnt think its a lower end seal being the culprit, but perhaps the reeds on the head. How do you know your not pulling air in? Sounds like your reeds are not opening, to let air in, which admittidly would be a bit strange, but possible. Bogging down in 4th could be a number of issues, such as jetting size, dirty jets or fuel bowl level not set correctly. That almost sounds like your starving for fuel.
Your bike name
GasGas EX350F
I was there the first weekend it opened. Great place to ride!
It absolutely is!
Like a bigger Calabasas. Lol.
Looks like an amazing area!
Hey there, Thanks, and glad to see others are trying to conquer heart attack hill. I think what would have helped me is to drop a tooth on the drive gear. My bike is a speed demon and not a great climber. You can see this on my redcone pass video as well. Not sure if you have Instagram but if so, feel free to hit me up (the rocky mountain rider).
Dude! I tried this as a newer rider on a Yamaha ttr125 a couple weeks ago and had a very similar experience and you aren't kidding, it is NOT for beginners! I'm still compiling my "fail" footage haha. Made it all the way up but also had to walk it like half of the way like you said. Funny thing is, it's left me wanting to try it again now that I've done some more difficult obstacles. Anyways, great video and hey if you're a local maybe we can ride this sometime!
Thanks! More coming soon.
the start of video had me laughing 😂 good video
Great video bro
Appreciate it, thank you.
How much would you say you got into the bike moneywise so far?
I didn't do a good job at tallying receipts, but at the time I still had the bike, i think the total revival cost was around $800 in parts.
@@the_rocky_mountain_rider I've got a 96 rt 100 and it's in bad shape. I've got no experience or tools for rebuilding an engine but I've been cramming information since last night about the bike including reading the service manual and every video on the rt100. So far I really liked your videos on the rt
@@mrkushke9934 Thanks, I'm glad you found it helpful. I think a basic case splitter is $89.99 on Amazon, and all the bearings and seals I got on ebay. However the bearings could be just fine and you may elect to just replace the seals. I took pictures and videos of the disassembly process so I don't booger it up on reassembly. Put all small parts, nuts and bolts in labeled bags, for easy reassembly. It's not too bad of a project once you get going. Let me know how it turns out!
KDX guy appears to be the best rider out there
Haha, I think so. Hard to tell from how far back I was.
The dude on the WR absolutely rips. He’s so dreamy!
Excellent work brotha!

Rocky hills, broken down Jeeps, and field repairs to dinosaur bikes… It was a good time, hope to see you out there again!
Absolutely! very glad to have met you all. If you all ever want some extra company on a ride feel free to reach out. Have fun out there.
Hell ya bro! Strong work.
Thanks bro! It was brutal but fun.
Off-roaded this trail many times to Nederland but never dirt biked it. Will have to give it a try.
This trail system is utilized by a wide range of offroaders and bikers. I was surprised to see gravel bikes on some of these trails as well. It's open year round but ideal in the summer and fall months. Have fun out there.
Excellent! Great video!
Nice bike too bad I can't hear it
Hello. Here it is running. ruclips.net/user/shortsdAx0mJ1al_E?feature=share
Where did you get the big shell conversion from?
I got a rt 100 I wanna rebuild. Any tips?
That's great to hear! I like that folks are reviving old bikes still. Yes, first thing i would do is to make sure you look online for all the parts you need. There is nothing worse than tearing into a bike and later realizing that the part you want is not available or cost too much. Second, make sure you have a several boxes to put old parts in and sandwich bags with labels for nuts and bolts. Having labeled bags and boxes for parts really helps the reassembly process. Third, tires were difficult to find, but available. Just something to keep in mind for final touches. And lastly, have fun with it!
Also, I have another rebuild video I just put up you can checkout. Have fun!
Great video!
Thanks!
What is the top speed of a rt 100
Good question, however I've never tried. It's been sitting in my garage since the rebuild...too much snow. I've heard from various sources that people were getting them up to about 50 mph. I suppose it depends on the weight of the rider as well. It certainly has some pep to it though.
