Pete Rock and CL Smooth carried me throughout my high school years. Even rapped on one of their beats and won a talent show. They were the dynamic duo. Dope beats and CL’s flow/voice was legendary.

The music biz is truly Rule #4080. Pete Rock was the producer; CL is the lyricist. The Producer gets royalties for beats, compositions, and replays. So Pete got paid for making the beats, producing the album itself' then got royalties from the singles everytime they got played or licensed for TV, movie, commercials, etc. Then he got a piece if folk played just the instrumentals... CL only gets paid for the lyrics. So CL don't get paid for instrumentals. And if Pete says "I'm not touring this month, I'm tired/busy" then there's no PR&CL show, so CL gets no money. Plus PR got money to produce other artists. Unless CL was doing ghostwriting or features, his main income was touring and hoping Pete wanted to do another PR&CL project! And if that's not bad enough, CL is now claiming that he fronted money for Pete's crate digging to clear samples; which means he was also co-producer but wasn't credited or paid for. I love their albums but the nostalgia has sailed. This is ugly and i hope they work it out.
