Rooted Sky Homestead

Добавлен 10 ноя 2011
Welcome to the channel of random and odd video content. As with life, many things are cyclical. Formerly known as A Reluctant Homesteader. I have grown into our more accurate name for the Homestead!
I am beginning to live my dream of being a homesteader on a 1/2 acre outside of Cleveland, Ohio. Though I have no idea what I am doing, life keeps handing me interesting opportunities to learn from. I am doing my best to film as I go and share the journey. We all have to start where we are. My focus at this time is growing plants, and raising Quail. Farm shares will begin in the summer of 2023!
Join me in the adventure of living closer to the land that holds us.

Installing Cattle Panel Trellis
Просмотров 183 месяца назад
Garden upgrade of 2024, installing two cattle panel trellises. My apologizes as I kept calling them cattle guards in the video. All materials were purchased at tractor supply. A pickup truck or large flat bed trailer is needed to transport the panels. This video from @AnoleGarden was extremely helpful in setting the T-post clips. ruclips.net/user/shortsvMLQ1vUJtZM?feature=shared CYA Disclaimer:...
A pickle for the neighborhood unhoused cat.

We call her Isadora. She visits the Homestead daily, usually around 8:00 am and again at 3:00 pm. Over the last year, we have gained her trust. She enjoys lap snuggles and ear scratches. We gave her a catnip toy shaped as a pickle for the holidays. As you can see, she didn't like it at all. 🤣🤣🤣 The Quail got a nice helping of garden worms as the weather was unseasonably high on December 25. #ho...

Less Than Perfect Peaches from our homestead.

Harvest time at RootedSky. I am working on the white-flesh peaches. It got me thinking about what is able to be sold at the market and what isn't. Black Locust Flower honey and Infusion

Working with the growing season. Black locust is a delicacy. A soft perfume can be infused with honey for use with everything! I also tried an infusion with water and lemon as an addition to bubble water. Video Editor: Kelly Hoffman linktr.ee/kellyelizabethhoffman #blacklocust #foraging #wildcraft

Thank you so much. I’ve got so many black eyed Susan’s on my property
WOW! How your Luxury Quail Resort as grown. They all look so happy and content. So happy for you and your resort.
The chemical in the fruit is a good way to end up in the hospital for eating poop fruit
Loved watching that it was so fun , and the reason that I searched for a video as urs because of studying it as a plant science student in college, thanks for telling us and describe it ❤
Thanks for watching! I have heard the dried leaves make a pleasant tea. I'll pass on the fruit! ;)
It reminds me of a fig um it doesn't taste like a fig more like dog shit, vomit and rotting flesh.
What kind of orange peels ? Florida oranges 🍊?
Navel oranges 🍊
Not every fruit is edible.
Wow! That is so great !
It's almost time to make a new batch :)
@@Rootedskyhomestead I am going to have to plant some here. I see I haven't eaten enough flowers in my life LOL.
@@KerryWanamaker violets are a lovely ground cover. The leaves are tasty spring greens!
My female chinese quail did a similar thing to me. She used to leave her mate's butt featherless, so I would have them out constantly to see if she would do it. SHe never did it in front of me, not in her 5 years of life.
5 years! A good life :)
🐣🐤🐥
Omg you're brave. I hate the way those smell imagine me trying to eat one. I did not know you could eat the orange flesh part .
I enjoy an adventure but will not be eating the fleshy part again anytime soon. 🤣🤣🤣
Very helpful! Thank you, ladies! Subscribed!
Thank YOU, Vee! We're so glad it was helpful!
Good job keep it up 👍
It was a lot of fun! We have plans for more :)
Astringent the nuts are edible, I believe. Doublecheck

You will not feel your lips for couple of weeks! It is same as eating a poison ivy! they are Poisonous! Only the Nuts can be consumed.
Thanks for the recipe at the end. And I enjoy your philosophy on finally seeing her there and her patience ☺️
It's almost time to pour off the tincture. I'm eager to try her. So happy to share. 😁
Thank you for this! I have lots of black eyed susan plants that I'm always trying not to hit with the weed whipper. I just heard about her being able to be utilized in place of echinacea. I had no idea. I will be making this tincture!
@@Jk-tk4bc They do like to grow near edge lines! Happy wild crafting! 💚
The lie we've been sold is perfection. Nothing , not peaches or people. Nothing is perfect. Cheers to all the perfectly inperfect things! ✨
Cheers!!

Luxury quail resort!
Haha!! So true. ❤️
Seconds are So sweet 😊 Lovely Peaches!
It's a crap shoot what you'll get and that's what I love about 2nd's!!
Interesting idea
Thanks for watching!
Yummy 😋
It turned out well. The texture is silky. The flavors are rich and a tad tart.
👍👍👍👍👌
This isn't right, how would they like it if da quail did that 2 them!😠😡🤬
I acknowledge your response.
Baby quails are a lot of work! Definitely the hardest part is making sure their water is clean! They seem intent on pooping in it lol. I'd be worried about not getting enough ventilation in the tubs with just a crack open on the bottom. Birds especially need a lot of airflow because they have sensitive lungs. I'd also be concerned about the tubs creating a possible greenhouse effect and the quails overheating. Since yours are 2 weeks old or older you can put them straight into the hutch if you want, they don't need supplemental heating at that age. (Unless it's really cold where you are) No hate, just some suggestions! Best of luck to you with your babies! I love quail so much <3
Thank you for these pro tips! The tubs were only one day while setting up an outdoor run for them. And they really do poop a ton! The water systems have been our biggest obstacle so far. Slowly getting reliable systems in place. The lil ones are getting big! Quail really are a dream to have on the homestead.
@@Rootedskyhomestead I use the RentACoop automatic cup waterers and they make everything SO much easier. They're a bit pricy at about 20 dollars each but they're worth it in my opinion. And yes quail are fantastic and so underrated! I think everyone should have a few quail. :)
@@SkittlesWithFeathers Awesome!! I'll check them out. Thanks!
Great new way to utilize the dandelions. Hope you'll do a video when you use them. I like that the whole dandelion plant is usable.
OH My ! You are doing great. Thanks for sharing your reflections!
Thank you!!
so cute ! 5-7 eggs a day Wow!
So sad they can’t see outside.
The wrap was temporary for the winter. The ladies are outside and enjoying the warm weather :)

I'm a villager, a farmer, I have a great passion of gardening. I had planted a lot of trees that bear fruits. But by profession I'm a teacher, I have seen your videos regarding all that I am really inspired by you so Madam, I'm eager to start a friendship with you.....
The starlings got the east facing tree hole nest this year in my yard. The babies are a riot. I have a water dish on the ground for any and all, but those babies love bathtime! I changed it out so much when they first fledged they just stayed right there for days. They would be remarking when I put new water in. I kept thinking how lucky starling parents are, most kids don’t like baths ❤.
What a riot! And sacred encounter. It's a lit of trust on the parents part to share their babies.
Good luck and success, God willing. A new subscriber. I hope you have a good time. I have good content
Honored to witness your first time trying it!
They're so delicious! Great on just about anything you'd like a lil kick with, eggs, tacos, salads. They make me pucker up a bit too. Do you have Magnolia in NM?
Love the connection with the body. Listening intently to what it needs. Very inspiring to take things slow and Listen.
Put hot pepper and vinegar in jar filled with dandelion flowers it makes great pickles
This sounds yummy!! I'll be sure to try it. Thanks!
I'm Haider from Pakistan and teacher by profession. I want friendship with you.......
Nice to meet you, Haider.

Such a fun tour of your garden!!!!! The tree tier of your Quail cage!!!!
There is something super satisfying of walking out into the gardens and having all your needs met. Life is simpler. ❤
I hear you from every cell of my being...I also am in the pause, the mandorla, the sacred space of stepping out of something before I step into something else. Or maybe the pause is where I am meant to be as a destination!!!!!!! THank you Brigid. YOu touch me deeply with Quail wisdom!!! xoxoxoxo
The Quail are wonderful teachers of youthful enjoyment. 😊

Great video! I love dandelions so much
Right!!! Let's sing their praises :)
Won’t they fly out????
They can, but haven't attempted to. It's a temporary situation as we work to create a more secure enclosure. :)
