Former principal dancer with La Scala, Royal Ballet of London and English National Ballet. This is from his early Hungarian period. Choreography - Laszlo Seregi From Budapest Opera, middle 1980s.

I really appreciate Balanchine's choreography when he plays around with things like turn-out and posture, making the same old step or position look new and interesting because coming from a different angle and/or edge, gives the viewer more depth- especially when the audience is on the other side of a monitor/tv and not in person at the theatre.

The first ballet I saw was Swan Lake. He was a guest artist at ABT and performed with Martine Van Hamel. Magic. Pure magic. This was in the 70's and inspired me to take ballet.

The Russian ballet dancers before they decided to slow the music down and only watch dancers who look and move like that alien in the last scene of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind".
Looool true, they do look like aliens. Very creepy ones, with those oblong limbs. I wish ballet companies would start again with the old school style, it was so much more thrilling to watch

I wish Russian ballerinas still moved this fast. Everything is so slowed down now.
The sad thing is that when you see all the major school performances, they young students really do still move that fast. Something is going on in the Russian ballet companies that is retarding the growth of all dancers.

Когда балет сблизился с художественной гимнастикой, он много потерял. Танца , образа нет, За редким исключением. Такие атлетки сильные, накаченные Мотыльки) а здесь и техника и легкость и музыкальность и танец. Tempora mutantur!!!
Согласна. Но не Вы ли на днях восторгались лошадью Скорик и ее жутким дебютом в Гамзатти? Вот где гимнастика в чистом виде, как по мне. Причем грязно исполненная.
