This is the channel for FML Film Studios. The FML stands for "flawed morning logic". You know, that logic that you have when you get up in the morning that makes it seem totally OK to turn off your alarm and just close your eyes for a few more minutes, or that it'll be OK to shave while driving to work so you can sleep a few extra minutes.
Basically, it means that we hate getting up in the morning and will do whatever it takes to avoid it.

In karate tournaments above the belt is fair BUT jump kicks is any way it’s not to the face the crane kick is a jump kick as you can see with the initial leg fake out then the other kick

The kick isn’t illegal but I’m 100% a johnny lawrence fan.
Tbf it was more messed up that Johnny sweeped Daniels leg after his leg was already messed up. In reality Johnny probably wouldn't of fell for the Crain kick anyways.

The kick was legal. Face contact was not banned until part 3 a year later. Watch the trilogy they point out the new rule

Yeah, it was legal. Johnny scored points for kicks to the face.
the rules for the tournament mentioned hits the head are illegal. Which Daniel did after he did a leg sweep. The guy face hit the mat which Daniel took it upon himself to land a cheap punch to the back of the down defenseless guy. Also, you must control your technique for it to be a point. Daniel with his injury shouldn't of been able to continue if he couldn't prove it didn't hinder him. It clearly does. However, let's say he is still allowed to continue. The kick to the head was full force with no control. Potentially a deadly kick as stated by miagi himself. "for life, not for points" even if kick to the head are okay he still broke more rules than cobai kai did.
I'm wondering if Ralph got the movies confused with his answer, cause in The Karate Kid 3, the ref DOES clearly say no face contact. And if so, Cobra Kai could use that scene to claim that strikes to the face were meant to be illegal in all of the tournaments prior.
This was covered in my part 3 video in this series. I believe that's exactly what it was. Also, the rules can change from one tournament to the next (e.g. the previous champion only fighting at the end in the third movie), so just because face contact was illegal in the third movie doesn't mean it would be illegal in the first.

Nope. I never said "more powerful" as you claim. Also, in my part 3 video in this series, action star and martial artist Scott Adkins reinforces this when he explains why head punches are more dangerous than head kicks and are outlawed in some karate tournament rules.

Cobra kai always having that confused the ending of the original movie for me. Johnny hands the trophy to Daniel and compliments him while the show starts with Johnny on the floor from the tournament and then years later showing a grudge.
Yeah I think that was more of how he remembered it or felt about it, rather than what actually happened.
I think that in Cobra Kai, Johnny is still so emotionally hurt about the moment that he’s created an excuse for why he lost the fight, and he actually believes it.
I think It was Illegal because the heel was connected during the kick, face kick should be snappy like slap and definitely not from heel

In the Taekwondo tournament I was in 2 days ago this kick would be considered illegal even with gear. I got kicked in the face like this and the fight was ended because the girl that kicked me in face drew blood. The rule is if there is blood the fight automatically ends. The girl didn't do it on purpose she apologized and gave me a hug. I ended up being the winner for that part of the tournament.

FMLFilmStudios "It's fictional so the movie can be anything it wants to be" So you could have cut this video down to about 10 seconds? No, we needed time for likes on our video to hate on the fanbois of the illegal kick.
Oddly I recall the third movie having a scene where Silver is telling Daniel to break the opponents nose and Daniel saying the punches to the face are illegal. So perhaps kicks to the side of the head are legal but to the face are not

Ralph Macchio is a great actor and seems like such a nice guy. But aside from the fact that he's clearly wrong here by saying "at the beginning they say no kicks to the face," I also don't agree in the least with what he says at 2:31 "There's 10, 000 things in that film that you could tear apart that don't make sense." What? 10, 000? I'd say more like two or three... I think it's safe to say: I have a lot more respect for that movie than Ralph Macchio does.

Clearly the joke was lost on you, but the topic is further addressed in my part 3 video.
Hits to the face such as elbow are illegal. But johnny ran into daniels kick , completely failed to defend, and also fell to the mat while standing. In real karate you hit the mat you lose, there are no points.
My idea was that the kick was deemed illegal by Johnny because it wasn’t a technique that he had ever seen before. It’s pretty clear that the tournament is based on an “Americanized” style and non traditional. Because of this, it is highly likely that no one there had ever seen the crane kick before since it is an ancient Myagi-do move. In the All Vally points are given for “clean techniques”. When someone strikes recklessly they normally get a warning or point deduction (this can be seen in karate kid 1 and 3 plus the cobra Kai show). Since Johnny had never encountered the kick before it’s understandable why he thought it wasn’t a clean point, with proper technique, and therefore illegal.

the kick was illegal its an under 18 tournament over 30 years ago meaning the only face contact allowed would have been a jodan kick with skin touch level. the kick was illegal due to illegal face contact. period.

According to a screen rant article the only allowed contact to the face is a jodan kick. So the crane kick would actually be illegal. But since they let miguel did it in cobra kai and gave him a point i guess it isnt illegal after all
Their article basically contradicts itself by saying it's illegal in real life, but then says how the movie doesn't follow those real life rules. In any case, the points in my videos refute their argument. Look out for part 3 soon!

You do realize the front kick or crane kick existed WAY before the movie "Karate Kid" right? Machida karate existed for years prior and the technique is literally based off of a front kick.
