I call it 'Elven brew.' My friends love it. I told them, "Before having any, give at least a dram to the Elves and tell them what you want in your journey." They give me good reports. Before consuming mushrooms. Tell the mushroom, "Show me what you want to show me. But be careful with we humans, we do have a breaking point."

Where is your evidence? Theres no record of the effects of Psylocybin untill the early 1800s, and this was an accidental poisoning in North London. It just wasnt a thing. And theres no evidence of the use of Fly Agaric by any group other than possibly the Sami. The only archeological or literary evidence we have of the use of entheogens is the Scandinavian use of Henbane and possinly Cannabis. There is nothing in Scotland or Ireland. Amongst the Celts and the Germanic peoples Booze was the drug of choice possibly spiced up with Henbane. And what are your sources for the stories you relate? Apart from Tacitus and some travel reports theres nothing written down until Christian monks wrote down some stories that may not even relate to things that go back before the arrival of christianity. For example the Ulster cycle. These are fine stories beautifully told but this isnt about the Psychedelic roots of Fairy Folklore, the examples you give of the imageray are all victorian, this is about your personal interpretation. That is fine if you make that clear.

If you excavate, be very careful. There was a megalithic site discovered in Missouri in the 90s and when they attempted to excavate it, the stone was too fragile to stand under its own weight (it had been beaten down by probably thousanda of years of weather, disasters, and human interaction.) A good chunk of the site was destroyed in the process. I highly recommend using lidar and ground penetrating radar to get an idea of how it's constructed, and also get a geologist to figure out the overall condition of the stone before you excavate the site. Hope everything goes well with it.

I was just there this summer, what a cool place. Skata Brae and Maes Howe were just awesome places to visit. It's too bad I was there on a Sunday and the Ness (sp?) was closed. But... I still got to walk around the Ring of Brodgar and that was impressive.

Very interesting, however, I felt like there was some unsupported speculation in here. And the comment in Fionn's story about it not being hard to see that the nuts are magic mushrooms was a good stretch. I can see nuts falling down a well, but mushrooms? Especially ones probably growing out of a cow patty? I find myself a wee tad incredulous.

Well Done Sir!! I was there on a bus trip, wanted to walk the beach, but didn't have time - I am sure I would not have noticed what you did, but I totally remember wanting to checkout the surrounding beach area! :)

Hehe....actually, the Faeries are ....how shall we say....well, often pictured as three Fairy Grandmothers. This is the Triple Goddess of pre-Christian indigenous European belief systems, and the Wyrd Women, Fates or Norns of mythology. A synonym for ancient Pagan deities, now often quite bowdlerized and misunderstood. The Celtic Feys, the Greek Titans, the Annunaki etc. are all technically "faeries" or nature spirits. See, in Paganism, all deities correspond with a natural element, force or current which our ancestors personified once upon a time to facilitate a better understanding of these forces which shape our reality, seeing as we are part of nature ourselves. The reason why mushrooms feature so prominently in faerie tales and imagery is because mushrooms have incredible healing properties. Magic mushrooms have psychedelic properties, and Shamans have used them ever since time immemorial as a tool by which to access previously hidden realms of consciousness. Nature spirits (every species of plant and animal has a presiding spirit) can be accessed or communicated with through the use of mushrooms and other plants if the seeker is ethical and sincere in their efforts....however these aids are by no means absolutely necessary. There are many other time tested methods for entering into an altered or enhanced state of consciousness.

One night I dreamed the gnomes were having a funeral in my garden. The head gnome was dreamed like a little Puritan minister, with a white collar and a black hat and coat. He had a great big book. I tried to look in it but he moved it away. Later that day a friend was working in my garden. She came in with a haunted look and said, "I think there's something dead buried in the garden." "Oh," I replied. "The gnomes had a funeral in the garden last night." I didn't know what else to say. She nodded and went back out. A half a year later, a friend of mine, who was terribly sick with Crohn's disease (already had a 1/3 of intestine removed), was lying down to go to sleep when she saw little bounces on her bed and they went into her side. "Oh, those were the gnomes," I said. "They have to put a patch on your intestine 'cause your so sick." I just knew that. Later that year she went with some Indians to fast and pray on Bear Butte (Montana). The medicine man and her were the last people to enter the sweat lodge and he said, "Hey, that's the first time I've ever seen Little People on the mountain." She burst out, "It's not me, it doesn't have anything to do with me!" He looked at her. Fifteen years later a friend of mine, an Indian medicine woman, had a very bad heart condition. She'd already had several operations. I said, "hey, maybe the gnomes would help." I put out an offering by a rock on the hill--I was away from home. Explained to them (I couldn't see or hear them--just trusted they were there). They went to my friend. All night long she felt them operating on her heart. The next time she had a cardio imaging the doctor pointed out to her--she was also a cardiac nurse--that there was a fluted scar several inches long up the side of her heart---fluting, like you put together the crust of the pie. He looked at her.

When I hit puberty I felt like an alien--which curtailed my social life. Autism spectrum? Mid-forties I humored some friends of mine by letting them do a "soul retrieval" drumming session for me. That night I dreamed of the fairies. They appeared as strands of light. Whenever two of them intersected, a new thing occurred in creation. They said, "you know how you always felt like you were an alien?" Yeah. "That's because you have genetics from us." My life made sense for the first time. Then they said, "And for coming to visit us, we are going to give you a gift. You know how you can tune into us through your feet, down into the earth"--made sense but I didn't know that until then--"because we're invisible just tune into us and you'll be invisible." I reeled awake. Why would I want to do that? Would I ever come back from their realm in the earth? I felt immensely threatened and contacted the only two people I knew who could possibly go "in there" and get me. Two years passed and one of them proposed that I spend the night in the little tower built by a deceased fairy-magician at a pagan retreat center in northern California. That night I dreamed that the ultimate war of good and evil was taking place and our generals---they were tough old Scotch Lairds we had total confidence in--were raising the regiments by "spiritual genetics" to fight for the good. I was in the half fairy/half human regiment. There were only about 80 of us. The fairies came marching by to assist the good; there were thousands of them. I woke up hearing the Ballad of Tam Lyn in my mind and I knew I was safe and would not be kidnapped by the fairies into their kingdom. When my friends arrived they said, "New Orleans has just been hit by a hurricane." What I learned in that dream is that when you see the fairies marching (or see their throne room) you are safe, because they are in order. The fairies supposedly march once a year, on Oct. 31 and that's when they can let their prisoners go. If you messing around with fairies, memorize those ballads so that you can be helped when you are unconscious. Conclusion: the fairies are the primal fibers of creation---the potentia in waiting. As soon as two of them meet, a new thing is created. This is fairy magic and it is the only truly powerful magic in the universe, second to Creator--it is the creative pablum of the Trinity. The closer they are to our world, the closer to human form they assume; the further away the less so. Their world is constantly shifting and changing as forces come to play on the fibers, and that is why it is we humans can get stuck there. They are as attracted to us (our emotions, hearts, and souls are intoxicating to them) as we are the them (for their magic). When we go there we have to not accept any food or beverages or gifts--or at least use them--until we have seen them in order---marching or in order. . . . . So, is this autism or reality?

The first timer I saw faeries was when I was learning meditation and decided I was going to attempt to fully enter my "heart space" and experience what feelings came along with it. I looked all around at the backyard and began to feel the love for all of our trees and plants and the love of the late summer sun beaming down on me. Suddenly, it felt as though an electric warmth began exploding from my chest and washed all throughout my body, in waves that washed over me and drowned out the outside world completely. All I could feel was this after the last wave simply held within my body and continued. I looked at all my plants and the birds (which love our yard) in sustained loving oneness and suddenly, since I wasn't focused on it, I thought an insect had flown in front of me and was just hovering, but once I did focus on it, I knew exactly what I was seeing, which made my breath stop and my heart skip a beat and more. What I thought was an insect, in fact, was a faerie that was bigger than our insects, but still looked so demure and fragile that I had a feeling that it was shocked I was seeing it and sat there for a few seconds looking at me, cocked its head to its right and very, very quickly flew into our camellia tree of bright pink and magenta flowers. When i realized what I'd seen, i found myself with the biggest smile on my face and i suddenly, uncontrollably began chuckling which continued for nearly 5 minutes. My body still was feeling glowing for quite a time after. It was one of the most memorable feelings I'd ever experienced. I'll not easily forget it. Those little, spindly legs and those crystal- looking fragile wings moving so quickly will be burned into my mind for a long time. Absolutely beautiful.

I saw faeries in Scotland and I was totally sober, as were others with me. The psychedelics simply help people who are less psychic see what's actually there
