    Thank you for sharing your perspective on this. This is such an important topic to discuss. I’m wondering if you could do a reversed version. As a candidate, how do you find out if you are interviewing for a faith based organizations, especially if they are covert and you don’t have a direct way to identify this. What are some key questions to ask? Thanks! 😊

    Some I'd add based on personal experience: 1. The interviewer is rude to you and then tries to excuse their bad behavior by saying it was a "stress test". 2. While not necessarily rude to you persoonally, the interviewer acts unprofessionally. One time the interviewer had a pizza delivered in the middle of it and even offered me a slice. Later on he showed me the server room to show what I "was getting myself into" and then started badmouthing the company. 3. If your interview is in person, take note of the environment. What are the conditions of the cars there? Is the lawn well kept? Is the bathroom clean? 4. You are being interviewed by too many people. If you are being interviewed by your boss, his/her boss, their boss, someone from HR, a coworker, the janitor, etc. you will be reporting to ALL of these people.

  • @Siranoxz
    @Siranoxz 7 месяцев назад

    Yup, experienced these things and it feels terrible. But i have learned later on that these people do not even matter to the slightest in your personal life. They are just regular drone workers fighting to appease their managers, and if that means they want to back stab you then they will, its nothing personal but its just the reality of work. It´ll be an ideal world to simply work on your terms alone or work in a workplace that suits you better, but that´s not the world today. Perhaps things can change later on in society. Coworkers are not friends, they´re just chained up in the same situation as you. What i would suggest people would do is to be neutral with your interactions with your co workers, know your boundaries so these coworkers cannot do anything against you.

    • @CareersbyJenn
      @CareersbyJenn 7 месяцев назад

      You could focus on aspects of travel that would be useful in the position: meeting a diverse group of people, being flexible and open to adventure, learning about different cultures and traditions...so many things travel can teach. You might want to use past tense just so they don't think you'd be absent a lot if they hired you...but definitely use what it is you love about travel to show them how these things might be of benefit to their organization.

    you know it's actually a Catch 22. If you are very stoic and not sharing anything, then your coworkers will deem you as having an attitude or a chip on your shoulder and then they'll start complaining about you to the boss. So you're F$cked either way. It's a real tight rope to have to walk.

    Should you stay friends with coworkers after you retire?

    • @CareersbyJenn
      @CareersbyJenn 7 месяцев назад

      If they are true friends, and you want to then absolutely! Loneliness post-retirement is real, so as long as the coworkers are people you want to hang out with, then go for it. What isn't going to be fun though is talking about work all the time if they still work and you don't...that might get tedious.

    • @TheKmonta

      @@CareersbyJenn Thanks for your response. What is your advice about keeping social media friends with ex co-workers? I have a few "friends" from work on social media.... should I "unfriend" them? I don't see them, two are my ex managers....what is your advice?

    • @CareersbyJenn

      @@TheKmonta if you aren't socializing with them, then might as well clean up your contact list. I am still social media friendly with a few coworkers I used to work with years ago, but never see...if I was doing a big clean up of my socials, I might remove some of them.

    Thanks for letting me know these red flags. The third red flag is how a VA hospital got me through USAJobs.gov. I had applied for a student internship, and the interviewer bait-and-switched on me, telling me I was going to be a janitor AND she low-balled me from 15 bucks to 13 or 11 bucks. I turned her down for the job right then and there! Seriously, I thought that VA hospital was better than that! 😡

  • @pch2230

    Wise words. I'd say it's best to think of colleagues as one of three types: Friends at work (as opposed to real life), people you can get along with, and people you should avoid like the plague. So long as most of them are in the middle category, and hardly any are in the latter, you've got it about right.

    I met my partner at work - Our relationship lasted some good 8-9 years. I recall however that things went a bit toxic in the last 3 years as we had to compete against each other, as we both applied for an internal vacancy.... That had seemed to have rammed a spear in the harmonic heart of our relationship and things turned sour over the following years. Never realised this at that time, but in retrospect it now all makes sense to me. It was a lesson to learn. We are still friendly but separated. I have a new job and he is still working for the same organization.

    In my experience, the best is to talk to people as if the boss was listening. If someone gossips I usually say something like: The jungle telegraph is not really my thing, excuse myself and go back to work. People are mostly loyal to themselves, and sometimes to people who are a part of their "clan". I don't share much of my private stuff because it will backfire. Been there, done that.
