Green-builder extraordinaire, Dale Sizemore, walks us step-by-step through how to convert an affordable shipping container into a vinyl toy painting studio. He covers framing and insulating the walls, building the spray booth, and constructing the ventilation system.
I have been brush painting straight from the jar with difficulty so thanks for the tip about mixing in some thinner! Love these videos 😊
Thanks for watching, and happy to help!
Ok, I'm for sure getting me a lazy Susan! ...or for my more substantial figures, a "lazy Suzanne". Really pleasant to watch and listen to. Thank you.
Thanks so much for watching buddy
love my lazy susan in the spray booth
Can't live without it
Great work, these look amazing and you’re sooo efficient with the paint jobs!
Thank you!
Beautiful work! Thank you for showing your process!
My pleasure. Thanks for watching!
Also: I never thought about a lazy Susan before. Since I paint outdoors 99% of the time it might be a good idea for me as well.
What is your drying time between say the cornea and the pupil?
@@KaijuSommelier drying time is only as long as it takes for me to get back around to that step! Very quick
Can you remove brown stains on sofubi or just paint on it? Can u use acrylic paint on sofubi?
It depends what the brown stains are from. And I don't recommend using acrylic paint on sofubi. Please consider using our vinyl paint that's been formulated specifically for use on vinyl toys. Acrylic paint can easily chip off because it does not form a proper chemical bond.
so cute
😋
Such an incredible piece of artwork And the paint, just amazing ❤
Thank you so much!
What’s the material of your thinner squeeze bottle? That looks like such a convenient tool
You can find them online! They're just called Solvent Squeeze Bottles.
after watching this i can't believe y'all don't even have 1000 subs!! there are channels with 100k that are inferior in production/content to you guys. Please please make more videos, they're fun to watch and you're helping bring more attention to our little scene.
We appreciate that! We'll keep doing our best
Thank you, James! This is the most comprehensive video on painting sofubi! I paint Gundam and collect sofubi. I was unsure of the process of painting sofubi and was afraid to try until I saw this vid. Gonna pick up some of your paints and give it a try! Thank You! Great video!
Thanks so much for the kind words and support! I hope you enjoy using our paints :)
But no overseas shipping
hopefully soon though. Subscribe to our newsletter when you get a chance. I'll be sending out an international poll soon to gauge which countries are most interested. We're currently getting certified to ship international, but it's a whole lot of work, and each country has its own regulations on what they consider safe.
I am just flabbergasted how quick that paint dries to the touch. How is that possible?
Our chemist is a wizard! He's been formulating paints for 50+ years
Nice work. I had previously seen your design for this character and was thinking about trying to find one in my price range.
Thank you! The lowest I've ever been able to sell them is for $180, but that's for bigger runs. They more commonly go for 200-250. They take a crazy amount of work. I'll try to plan another larger 180 release for wondergoblin.com soon.
@vinylwonder Sounds great. Thanks for explaining so much of the process and safety precautions in your videos. It's a blast to watch
Incredible intro spin
Haha thank you
Crafsman sent me along, I wasn't aware that you had a RUclips and I'm looking forward to watching more of your process 😀 I'm itching to create something in sofubi now as I've only worked with resin up to this point 😅
Thanks for checking us out! And yeah you should totally get into it! sofubi is crazy fun!
Came here from Crafsman! this channel is high quality and underrated and deserves way more than 400 subscribers, surely his new vid featuring you will bump up those numbers and get this channel the attention it deserves!
Thank you for the kind words! Crafsman is just the best, aint he? What a beautiful soul. So honored to have been featured on one of his videos. Can't nobody make videos like he can <3
Oh wow… didn’t realize how well it worked as a brush paint. Thought it was only for an air sprayer.
Yep! Our concentrate works great as a brushable paint. And if it's still too thick for you out of the bottle, you can thin it down slightly with our vinyl thinner or retarding solvent for more work time.
Can isopropyl alcohol be used to thin or clean vinyl paint?
No, only vinyl thinner can break down vinyl paint.
Vulture fren! 🥲🥰
😁❤
Always enjoying your videos! ❤👏👏
Thank you for watching Elias 🥰
Great video! Love the Crafsman bot. What do you think is the lower limit in terms of temperature for painting with vinyl paints? I work in the garage because of the fumes, but it's unheated and it's starting to get close to freezing where we live.
We recommend people spray between 60 and 90 for best results, but I've painted at much colder temperatures (and also hotter temps) and gotten away with it. Airbrushing clear coat or certain metallic colors are the ones that you really have to be careful of blushing when it's too cold or wet. My method of dealing with the cold is by turning on a radiant space heater that blasts me and my spraying area and keeps the freshly painted toys warm. It can be a little tricky painting like this, but you get used to it pretty fast, and you'll end up forming a technique that works for your conditions.
Your dogs are cool. Clover has advanced cataracts. It is seen that he is of legal age. Do not touch her. Additionally, eye surgery to remove a cataract in a dog costs US$4,200. 😬 On the other hand, I have healthy envy of you. You have the workshop that every artist dreams of. Everything is planned in your workshop. Order and safety in the workplace is a guarantee of success. I know vinyl toy manufacturers who paint on the balcony of their apartment, with the consequent disapproval of the neighbors. 😂 Thank you for this video, it is very complete. I have seen many videos on assembling and painting parts and it doesn't teach even a tenth of this. Your advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks for sharing this video.🙏👍❤🙂
Thanks so much! I'm glad you found it helpful! Clover is actually only 2 years old. She has a birth defect called micropthalmia as a result of her double merle genes. We've taken her to a specialist who has assured us the blood tears are a normal part of her eyes closing up naturally. We know they can look alarming, but she is not in any pain and they are a normal occurrence for her. Eye removal was an option for us, but when she was a baby she still had a tiny bit of sight. We chose not to take that from her and to let them close on her own. The specialist said that by the time she's around 4 years old they will be closed. She's on prescription eye drops for now. Thank you again for watching!
I hope it doesn't make your case worse. She is a very beautiful dog. Don't stop taking care of her. Animals give us so much for nothing. Thank you for the work you put into making these entertaining and informative videos. May your business always be thriving.@@vinylwonder
Keep these coming!
Thank you! I'll try my best!
Excellent video. Thanks for the explanation. 👍👍👍 I have two questions: 1. I have a friend who disassembles the entire airbrush and soaks the metal parts in thinner a day before. He has told me that this makes it easier to remove old paint. Then he runs a wire brush to clean the inside. Does it seem appropriate to you?I understand that you don't have as much free time as he does.😄 2. If the needle is a little damaged at the tip, doesn't this affect the flow of paint? Even when the needle is a little warped in its length, I think it affects the function. How do you verify that the needle is completely straight? 🤔 Thank you. 🙏
Hey! Good questions. 1. vinyl thinner works pretty fast, and is stronger than most thinners, so I don't think you need to soak the parts that long. 2. I've never had a needle warp, but I have dropped one before and it chipped the tip. You should be able to see that it's damaged by looking at it with a magnifying glass, or if it doesn't spray well, that's a good sign. They aren't too hard to replace, thankfully. Thanks for watching!
@@vinylwonder Thank you. Noted.✍
Thank you. Excellent class. You give us motivation to continue working with art toys. 🙏🤩❤👍
Thank you so much for the kind words <3 To motivate and inspire each other is what it's all about!
Great video! Thanks for the tips!
Thank you for taking the time to watch it!
These videos are helpful, thanks!
So glad you find them helpful! Thank you!
Cool stuff!
Thank you!
Very cool to see the process! Thank you!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
👏
☺
What Brand of paint and Brushes you use
www.vinylwonder.com is our website where we sell our paint - any brushes will do but GodHand brushes are good - iwata eclipse is the best for airbrushing
Awesome figure, I love the little animals on him, especially the jackalope on his shoulder! (I watched the whole video 😎)
Thank you Angela!
I checked your website and it says ready-spray. Is that the same paint and if so why thin it? Also what is the difference between vinyl paint and lacquer paint? Thank you! EDIT: Checked again and saw it was different paint.
Yes this video is instructing how to use the vinyl concentrate and turn it into ready-spray. Vinyl paint is vinyl based whereas most lacquer paints are urethane based. The only way you can get a chemical bond to vinyl, is by using vinyl paint. Thanks for your interest!
can this paint be used on resin?
Yes it can! We have an adhesive promoter in our formula specifically designated to bond with most resins. Just make sure your resin has all the mold release cleaned off before painting. Our vinyl thinner can be used to degrease and scrub off mold release from resin figures.
@@vinylwonder thanks for the info, I'm in the midst of creating my very own original figure and I;m looking for a strong paint that won't come off easy
@@vinylwonder oh , also I don't own an air brush, can I still use a regular brush and apply dry brush and wash with this paint?
What’s the best brushes to use?
You can use any brushes, but I prefer GodHand brand brushes from Japan for my detail work.
@@vinylwonder thanks!
Can you do a video on all the safety parts and hazards that we want to avoid?
Not a bad idea. I'll try my best to get one up soon!
Just bought some paint and I can’t wait to start painting some of my blanks! Do I have to paint everything in one sitting? Or can I paint in different times. Thank you!
Thank you for your order! You can take your time and paint on different days. No need to paint all in one sitting :)
Hi, can you adding some blood splatter paints on a coated sofubi? Or should we decoating/thinnering the paint first? Or adding surfacer? Or you can just splat some red paints for bloody effect? Thanks
Yes, you can add a blood splatter effect with our vinyl paints by using the Ready-Spray Red. It should be pretty thin in the ready-spray format, but if you want it thinner, just mix in a little vinyl thinner with it.
I'm extremely happy to not only see a paint specifically made for vinyls but the fact that on your website it shows how the colors are applied to Kaiju figures, some of which I own in your examples. This paint will be perfect in doing some restoration work on some scuffed up figures
That's great to hear! Restoration work is fun. Happy painting and thanks for the support!
nice job and good video would u pelase give us some info about t safety measurees for those diffrent paints or varnish u used before paiitning? what you need to protect from bad fumes etc? how toxic are they
Yes, you can read all about proper safety precautions by visiting vinylwonder.com and click on the TIPS link. There's a page dedicated to safety in there. Thank you for watching!
Great vid! and I love papa squatch~~~ love his flowery details
Thank you so much!
I read on your Instagram this was made in the USA. Most toys like this are made in Japan. What business did you use to make a vinyl toy?
He is in California. You can find them on instagram @quail_toy
@@vinylwonder Thank you so much! May I ask how much a typical 10 inch toy costs with them to produce?
@@Imperatorelite999 There are so many variables that come into play with pricing. It's best to just reach out and ask them. I would say maybe start smaller if this is your first toy though. The smaller the piece and the fewer the parts, the more affordable the cost.
cant wait to paint some sofubi today!
Happy painting!
Silly question, how does the products interact with foam clay? Will the thinner damage the foam or does it work well with it?
Not a silly question at all! You can use Vinyl Wonder on a lot of different substrates, but I'm not positive if it will work on foam clay. I've never tried it. It might?
Yooooo this is epic thanks
Thank you for watching!
Can you show how to mix colors with your paints in your next video? :)
I actually have a video showing that very thing! - ruclips.net/video/RCUzZJrJvOs/видео.html
Love these videos
Thanks!
Great work! 👏👏👏❤️
Thanks Elias!
