Putting the wheels back on my 1987 Honda XL600R motorcycle
This bike needs to get moving! It will be so much easier to work on once I can roll it around, particularly on and off the lift. Really, I just need to clean them up, check the bearings and mount them on the frame. The rear wheel is a bit more involved since it houses the brake shoes. I'll make sure they're okay, then hook them up in a future video. The front wheel is even easier. I'll wait until the end to change the tires, depending on how I decide to use it.
The intent of these videos is to help beginners understand how these bikes work and how to fix them when they don't! Using parts from my years of collecting, I have almost everything to rebuild this basket case 1987 Honda XL600R exc...

Rebuilding the front Shocks on a 1987 XL600R
Просмотров 38414 дней назад
These front shocks are looking pretty tired! It's time to take them apart, give them a good cleaning, install new seals and some fresh fork oil. I cover how to disassemble them, inspect the components, all the mating surfaces and then put them back together. There's a lot of tricks in doing this properly and safely. These forks are the final part of the 'skeleton' of this motorcycle project. On...
Installing NEW SPRINGS & SHOCKS into an old Golf Cart! EZGO Medalist
Просмотров 230Месяц назад
How to replace the suspension components on an older EZGO electric golf cart. This one has been used as a utility cart at a local lumber yard. It's carried some pretty big loads (maybe too big!) and one of the rear springs has broken in half. It hasn't seen much maintenance in a while, so I'm going to go over it and fix what's broken, plus add some additional stuff at their request. In the end,...
How good are Amazon Motorcycle Parts? Suzuki LT80 Kid's quad
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.Месяц назад
Are Amazon bike parts any good? I guess we'll find out! There are very few options when looking for engine parts for a 30 year old kid's quad, so I decided to take a chance on a complete top end rebuild kit from China, sold on Amazon. On inspection, they seem to be fine, the tolerance are within spec and the castings are nice and clean. This engine wore out due to a faulty 2 stroke oil injectio...
Fixing a 3 point POST HOLE AUGER for my rusty old farm tractor!
Просмотров 163Месяц назад
This old abused post hole auger came in a bundle with a bunch of other implements for my tractor. All the components are there, but it's been a while since this unit has been functional. It attaches to the three point hitch on the back of my White 2-60 and is powered by the PTO. It's a pretty basic piece of farm equipment and it shouldn't be too hard to bring it back to life to serve my purpose...
Suzuki LT80 Starter replacement, front brake service and basic servicing
Просмотров 1772 месяца назад
A thorough inspection and repair of a kid's quad that has been sitting for two years. This 1996 Suzuki LT80 needed a new starter, new front brakes and all the electrical contacts cleaned up. The front brake cables were partially seized plus the carburetor and gas tank were contaminated. Basically, the whole bike needed a good going over! The intent of these videos is to help beginners understan...
Kawasaki KLX 110 Front Brake Cable and Oil Change
Просмотров 2312 месяца назад
This bike came in from a friend needing the front brake cable replaced and in need of a little love. After a good hosing down it made its way onto my lift and got a new filter and oil change. The air filter was starting to disintegrate so that got changed too. To finish it all up, the chain needed a cleaning and adjustment. It was a lot to fun to test drive and I'm confident it's ready for what...

This is a step by step instructional video showing you how to fix a twin cylinder Briggs and Stratton engine in a lawn tractor that suddenly started blowing black smoke. In this case the 24hp engine is in a Craftsman riding lawnmower, but similar engines are used in many different brands. The repair can be done by most do-it-yourselfers with common tools. The cause of this damage turns out to b...
How to rebuild a Honda small engine carburator
Просмотров 1665 месяцев назад
This Honda GC160 5HP horizontal shaft engine has been sitting in a shed, untouched for 10 years. It has low hours on it and really doesn't look too bad. There's no reason that a good cleaning won't bring it back to life. The carburetor is full of dead bugs, the gas tank smells horrible, but those are easy to deal with. The intent of these videos is to help beginners understand how small engines...

It's finally time to reunite the engine with the frame. In this video I clean and examine all the engine mounting hardware, then prepare the engine and frame before lifting it into place. There is definitely trick in getting it to fit! Once it's installed and torqued down, I take some time to explain how to install the airbox back into the frame. They're a trick there too! Changing the Main Jet to fix a poorly running dirt bike.
Просмотров 1766 месяцев назад
How to fix a bogged down dirt bike engine. For some reason, the main jet in this XR80R's carburetor was quite a bit undersized from stock. The result was a powerless engine that couldn't maintain high revs. I simply ordered the correct main jet from Honda and the problem went away. There are clips of the symptoms of this problem included. Jetting is a very important part of getting your bike to...

When you blow air into the furnace, does it blow up the ash ?
There is very little ash left over. I suppose it might be blowing it out through the whole process, but it’s not noticeable.
👍
When I was a senior in high school I bought a brand new 1987 Honda XL250R, wish I never sold it. Have a 2024 Suzuki DR650 now.
Both are nice bikes!
Great video and sound thanks for uploading .Did you figure out where it was leaking from
Hi Jason, my 1985 XL600 has a bearing keeper on the rear wheel that gets screwed onto the R/H side. Removing it to change out the wheel bearings it got dinged up cause or corrosion. Do you know where I could source these by any chance? They’re not the 4 hole type, but more of a castle style.
There are several motorcycle dismantlers on eBay. I would try one of them first. Then maybe do a google search of the part number and see what turns up. Good luck!
Looking good 😎
I'm restoring an Honda XL 600 lm and tour videos are helping me a lot. There are very few videos on the topic and yours are the best. Thank you from Italy
Very happy to hear that! Thank you!!
I think my next t-shirt should say "It's the Jason way"
I noticed in this video you have one of the log dog/stops on the other side of the cross bunk. I would like to do this too, but didn't think it's possible without switching the legs to the other side. Can you advise? Thanks.
Okay, then switch the legs to the other side.
@@jasonselinger Did you have to cut any bolts?
Nope. Tell ya what, I’ve got to cut a bunch of short pieces and have to move one clamp. I’ll make a video and post it in my sawmill channel later this week.
@@TreetoLumber Awesome, thank you
Hi Jason !!! Very good videos !!! I have two Hondas xl 600R Paris -Dakar edition ,1986,and 1985 y. Bikes are great ! Good wishes from Croatia ! 😊
Those Paris Dakar bikes are really cool. There aren’t many over here. I’ve only seen pictures.
Jason, another good video, I’ve watched most of your videos twice. Looks like this was near a year ago. How’s the track holding up? Seems like larger mill tracks use a square or rectangle tube to support the logs. Any wear or abuse to this vertical flat stock track supports?
The track is fine, no issues at all. Overall, I'd classify this sawmill as light duty and it does shake a little bit. If you've got the cash I'd probably move up to a slightly larger machine, although I don't know how much better they are. No experience there.
If you don't mind, please send me the link that you buy the ignition coil. I'd much appreciated
I bought it on Amazon. Lots to choose from, but make sure you get the right one for your machine. You can look it up by the model number.
The bucket is always the manhandled part of a front loader. Especially when operator goes over it's capacity. Good job of fixing it. Thanks for sharing.
It sure is, but this old tractor has stood up to many years of abuse!
Very nice bike man! Great quality video. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!!
Very nice bike man!
"Choose a difficult lot in life" you're very funny Jason. Is there anything you can't fix?
Please use a steel crucible when melting brass want to see if it will work and much cheaper than your standard crucible
so well explained, thank you!
Fire extinguisher! Safety first.
I wonder if you could hone the cylinder and just get a new piston and rings for it
Maybe. My guess is that it needed to be rebored to an oversized piston and rings. Not sure it would have been any cheaper or easier.
I've had good luck with most of the aftermarket parts. Not like you have a choice😅 Suzuki original parts would have been quite expensive.
You are right, unfortunately there is not a lot of choice when it comes to some of these older engines. I guess time will tell!
Great insight kn!
There is a rubber o ring to keep the tool box closed the tools wheel knock it open I had that bike n 86 brand new 7 grand out the door loved it then had kids so that was that
When I when I went to do the valves had the tool but it was to hard to use so I out a rag under the valve and one on top and socket on top of spring so the keepers do move hit whit hammer 5 mins done fast seen guys do that on utube it's works great
So I've had to do valve job I use a drill to have for 20 years we I do a valve job cars and bike glad to see so one else do it do more vedios

Всем привет,где можно найти детали на этот двигатель.
great video. thanks for doing it.
When things were built to be user serviceable. Great video!
Is this mineral oil?
Yes
I think that as long as the chain has been tightened, it must be working.
It brings back some memories for me watching this. I put over 180,000 miles on my R100T and did all the maintenance myself. Don't forget to put some grease on the transmission input splines every 30k at a minimum. Oil and filter every 3,000 miles.
That some good riding!! I rebuilt the transmission and did the spline when I added the pesky circlip about 10k ago. Was planning on doing the spline again this winter. Thanks for watching!!
I'm happy to give this video a like just for saving that motorcycle from the cafe wreckers.
Couldn’t agree more. Love original bikes, with reasonable modern improvements, like electronic ignition etc. there’s lots of trashed Japanese bikes that the cafe guys can play with.
Did you find the nail set that you left on the top of the deck? It is visible at the end of the video when you are running the deck. Great job.
Ha! Yrs I did find it, but only when I saw it while editing the video!! Good eye!
Did you find the nail set that you left on the top of the deck. You can see it during the last bit of the video.
This is an unbelievable find, just got an 86 today. It doesn’t run, apparently the problem is with the top end and I’m going to start tearing into it right after I watch the rest of these videos. Thanks so much for the details.
Really glad to hear that! It’s a great bike, but the top ends are problematic as they age.
Just replace all the spindles bearing and then you know it’s going to last 3/6 years 😊
Very good video! Thank you Sir!
Great video, brother! Helps a lot! Question... I Have a 1981 Honda Cb Custom 900 and I need to replace the carburator diaphragms. Is there any place you'd recommend to get those? Greetings!
Hello can one jumpstart the battery of the F650CS without taking it out from the bike? I am using a Jackery power bank which works also with cars to jumpstart them. Just asking...
I kinda missed the background music with this video, but from all the great comments, I think I'm the only one! And if that's the only complaint... Well done.
Мне нужен такой двигатель.
Hi Hope you can help me. On the coil the blue wire ( 1 and 4 Coil) and yellow wire( 2 and coil), do the connect to the positive side of the coil or the negative. Regards Russell
🤙🏻
This video is excellent. My neighbor young man just picked up one of these and I have been helping him tune it up. We are chasing an issue, we just can't seem to resolve. Got the bike to idle smooth throttle is snappy but holding throttle at 3-4k RPM gives us a occasional popping only on the left side of the bike. I suspected carb and had him tear it down and go through it. I didn't watch over his shoulder but assumed he did correctly although not confident because I didn't do it myself... Anyway, problem persists... any advice would be appreciated. Also tried swapping coils and spark unit. Still same on left side. Thank you!!
Have you checked the valve shims? I’d also check the rubber intake boots and make sure they aren’t leaking air.
@@jasonselinger Hello, thanks for the reply. Did check the boots, they are soft and supple. They are tight. I have adjusted valves before but never checked valve "shims". Do you have a video posted on that? More information, I took the bike out for a ride yesterday and can feel it cutting out around 6K RPM, throttling on would push past and get up to 7-8K rpm. Just "feels" like a carb issue still. But I am definitely open to learning something new. Thanks again.
Yup, it’s in the same video!
@@jasonselinger I noticed that. Thanks. Didn't realize that could cause popping, backfiring and and cutting out. I'll look at that as well.
I’m not sure it can either, but it’s never a bad idea to check them. Especially if the bike is new to him. It sounds like one cylinder is running lean. I’d double check the float height, the fuel passages and that all the jets are clear.
