We use a modified Jet Sled XL to haul all of our gear for 10 days off grid. Without this we wouldn't be able to carry such a big Cabelas Alaknak tent and Kni-co Alaskan Jr. wood stove. Along with all of our other gear and food to survive over a week off grid!

Cabelas Alaknak tent setup and review
Thanks for the review. I plan on getting this for a much smaller tent. But for my big boy tent the best stove is Four Dog Stoves made now by Ametalwerks.
Im thinking about buying the MSS sleep system it looks great because you can use it all year around like you said. I have something like that a hooped Dutch Army bivy and make it in to a bedroll and i think the MSS would be great like that. Do you think the MMS would be good as a bedroll? Check my video with the bedroll so you know what i mean.
We use a 12’x20’ tarp inside and underneath ours. Makes clean up a breeze when it gets back home from our hunting camp. We do spray the interior and exterior with a bit of soapy water and use a clean broom to get the tougher stains out in the corners. We are on year 6 with ours
Very good reviews. I think i picking up all of those
Tent too big

I actually like the marine bivy better. I think it is designed better. if you start to overheat, its easy to get some air and let the moisture out. I have slept with it going down to -20F any colder more than that, even in the ninja suit black silks, and fleece base layer and everything else, hell no. unless I have another heat source. It will keep you alive, comfort is not necessarily a factor that they system was designed for. I am comfortable in it for the most part. I use a ridge rest, I have used one for 30+ years. I have used other inflatables, I have not had one stay inflated. I do like the army one man tent improved combat shelter, it's plenty roomy and has separate area's for my gear, and is a complete black out, which I love. The hot hands is a good trick that I use. Love the video. Thanks
Just bought one of these for an up-coming walk. Great little review.
How well does hedge burn in there?
Cheers for advising about the voltage indicator. I just ordered this from Amazon but was able to cancel the order before it took the funds out. I definitely want to be able to see the voltage on the one I get so that I can figure out the optimal position for the panels in the sun 🍻
Amazing video
Looking at getting one these tents. Did you have the front vent of tent blocked off?
From experience... get a battery fan 20,000mah hang up high, point down, have a Mr Buddy heater W/ 20LB TANK also, close up most lower vent holes, but DEFINITELY RUN A CO2 MONITOR ALARM low near sleeping height. Be like sit'n in your living room at home. ...Alan in 🇨🇱
You could try a buddy heater or even a kerosene heater. You could use a buddy heater when the stove goes out. Just make sure there is some air for a little ventilation (This is a must) and buy a carbon monoxide detector and place in the tent near by where you sleep as a double precaution. Try to read up about the Buddy Heater do's and donts (You can find some videos on youtube). Do not skip this part and "fully" read the Buddy Heater manual.
I too am wondering as to what kind of carts those are
Get a wlnnerwel it will burn 8 hours less wood
Great video. Very helpful.
What kind of wood were you burning?
Do you need all of that gear? It seems excessive.
What is the diameter of the grommets for the tent stakes?
Do the battery packs get hot sitting out in the sun while charging from the solar?
As a 10th Mountain vet with years of using thi system.....its crap. I was never warm. PRO PATRIA!
With that been said ... With that been said
I've taken it down to -16 with a -30f wind chill in an ice storm on Ft Sill. We did not have the pads, but we did sleep in our Polypropylene under garments. We kept having to get up and break all the ice off the bivy bag because the weight was causing issues. We woke up to nearly a full inch of ice and they had to send emergency recovery dueces to pick us up. Probably the worst conditions I've ever seen, and ended up on the ground in a field in this bag with nothing but clothing and an old ass Alice pack of gear. We couldn't even drink water unless we snuggled our 2qrt canteens in the bag with us, then the mule froze solid and no water in the morning.
just got my maxcam charger today :) gonna test it out soon
I have personally slept out in -45c (-50 with wind chill) using my Wiggy's Antarctic bag, with the zipped in intermediate bag (equivalent to the patrol bag), and my wiggys bivy.) I only wore base layer thermal underwear and was actually warm, though I did have to put on hiking socks, and a beenie. In my opinion way better and warmer than the military sleep system. I'm 6'3 and 240LBS so the military sleep system is too short for me. (My sleep system is 7' 6" long!!! I did switch out the compression sack for the military one, as it is WAY better, and I am also going to try the US Military Bivy to match all my ACU gear.
Hey bro, was looking for info on this tent, and your videos are exceptionally well done. Thanks for taking the time to show us all the features and setup, etc. Cheers from Ab, 🇨🇦Canada
If it is used correctly it works wonderfully. And 100% Gorilla proof. It's just Heavy and large pack size. A good night is what counts! Just enjoy the out doors and be safe there is no Right or wrong if it works for you it works.
do you have issues with condensation?
How much
thanks
Water resistance is not water proof bub ? You will get wet you will get cold and it will suck big time !! . there is a fine difference between water resistance and water proof !? Be carful guy
Pretty much anything that doesn't dissolve when it gets damp is considered "water resistant" these days.
Great video. We are practically neighbors.
How much food did you bring back? I generally end up bringing half my food home because I can never eat it all.
My favorite pack! I made a few mods to my two and I can't imagine that there is a better pack made.
Sounds like you needed to increase your calorie and fat intake. I always lose my appetite while camping so i eat high calorie foods when I do eat. In a windy area you can suffer from dehydration easily so at least 3L of water each day. Looks like an amazing time
Amazing sleep system
And she cost how mutch?
Thanks for your good efforts!
Fire brick inside & outside of the stove
curious if you are heading back to the island for this years hunt, we are going for the first time, and have watched your videos several times while we are trying to prepare for the unknown, send along any other tips you think we need to have please
I have that same stove and also have the 12x12 Alaknak. In colder temps I have a larger stove (4 Dog Stove) that I use. It produces more heat and holds it a lot longer, but is 52lbs and is just more bulky to load in the back of my truck. To be honest I have a high end down sleeping bag and just usually let the fire burn down and use the bag for warmth through the night and then stoke the fire in the morning. The problem with this is water bottles freeze unless they are put in something to insulate them. Climbing out of the bag in the morning when it is 21 degrees in the tent (or colder) is not fun, but I usually put a lantern and Buddy Heater within reach of my cot. I can reach out and fire them up without getting out of my bag and they warm things up a few degrees. However, I will say that getting up in the night to go to the bathroom when the air temp in your tent is in the low 20s is not that much fun. lol
Mine charges my battery bank in 4 hrs! It charges way faster than just charging diretly.
What amps capacity of your powerbank?
I would ditch the tent. You should have had a high temp inside of at least 70 to 80 degrees. The tent, if it is insulated, looks way too chincy even though it is a brand name. The smaller the tent, the better when in the wild,
Yeah bigger stove. Or what about using a buddy big heater? Use the buddy heater when the stove goes out
Good video. Thanks for sharing this. I always try to keep my face outside the sleeping bag. Our breath puts out an amazing amount of moisture and its best to keep the moisture out of the sleeping bag. Good video though and awesome tent / stove!
use a ski mask
Thx. I bought just the black cold weather bag & can’t figure out how to snap over the zipper. Thinking now that the snaps must be where connects to the green bag? Definitely a versatile system. Good to see how it all fits together. Thx
Sooo, if you hang this big blue by the carabiniere, then the pouch you don't like , will be facing down preventing any water or debris from getting in the pouch. I love the charger, I hang it off my back pack and anything I'm charging stay in my waterproof back pack .
