    Thanks for your insights - you have convinced me that we need an Integrex type machine in the shop. We run a number of large machines but all but one are dedicated turning or milling. We run Hypermill and have the programming capabilities so hopefully we can move forward from here. Also I wonder if there is any other way or platform to share/ publish videos removed from YT? This content is too valuable to be memory holed just because a quasi monopolist decides so. Thanks and greetings from Holland.

    This reminds me of the bronze die cast 1911's Colt experimented with in the early 1930s to see if they could skip some of the milling operations by using an a more dimensionally accurate casting process. I think it was some kind of silicon bronze they ended up casting the 1911's out of.

    • @adamthemachinist
      @adamthemachinist 11 часов назад

      It’s heavy at 3.5 lbs, but that has more to do with the full length dust cover. The density of the c729 alloy about 10 percent more than steel. Either a more typical frame design I don’t think it would feel any different in the hand than a steel frame. The upside to all that weight, especially up front , is the gun is pretty flat shooting

    Great job!! I really like your choice of the copper alloy slide and the overall fit and finish of the pistol. I've been a 1911 2011 aficionado for over 20 years now and some of them require hand fitting from the factory but then they don't do it and put em together and sell em like that. You end up buying a gun that won't run flawlessly. If course you can spend 5k on one that does.(The more expensive factory models of certain brands) I fitted and tuned mine to run flawlessly myself and proceeded to test it extensively to ensure it was reliable enough to suit my expectations

    • @adamthemachinist

      The ATF considers this a Privately Made Firearm. as long as you meet the legal requirements to own a gun, you can make a gun. no forms, registration, or serial numbers needed. For a long time this was no big deal, but the advent of 3d printed guns has brought some scrutiny to the practice. Still legal , but these often get called "ghost guns" which cast an nefarious stigma on them

    *Summary* * *(**0:21**)* *2011 vs 1911 Manufacturing:* The 2011 pistol (a double-stack, high-capacity version of the 1911) is significantly easier to manufacture than the traditional 1911. * *(**6:50**)* *Easier Machining:* The 2011 requires fewer specialized tools and operations like broaching. Many features can be machined with standard end mills. * *(**11:00**)* *Round Bar Stock:* The 2011 frame can be made from readily available and affordable round bar stock, opening up the possibility of highly efficient "mill-turn" production. * *(**16:51**)* *Simplified Internal Features:* Internal cuts like those for the beaver tail safety, disconnector, and slide stop are simpler and less deep on the 2011. * *(**18:44**)* *"Clark Cut" Barrel Advantages:* The use of a "Clark Cut" barrel simplifies machining of the vertical impact surface. * *(**2:42**)* *Copper Alloy Frame:* The video creator used a copper alloy for the frame, which offers benefits like high hardness and good wear resistance. A downside is that it conducts heat readily, making the gun hotter during extended firing. * *(**15:57**)* *Design Considerations:* While mostly easier to make, the long dust cover with a relief for the recoil rod proved challenging to machine and might be redesigned in the future. *In essence, the video explains why the 2011 pistol design is not only an advancement in terms of capacity and ergonomics, but also a significant improvement in manufacturability over the classic 1911.* I used Google Gemini 1.5 Pro exp 0801 to summarize the transcript. Cost (if I didn't use the free tier): $0.0680 Time: 22.98 seconds Input tokens: 17361 Output tokens: 689
