BIMTV Ep 21: Start of the 2024 Season at Gopher Dunes 4K
The start to the season went off well. A few of us, including @russianrouletteracing, were fortunate enough to get some time off work and get out to the track on Monday. We had the place mostly to ourselves running fresh lines on a perfectly groomed track.

A quick clip of a nice flowing section in the Ganaraska Forest. Filmed in October of 2023. Forgot my newer GoPro so I used my GPHero9 that was in my truck to capture this. Not a planned filming day so not part of the BIM episodes but nice to get out and enjoy the fall colours at the Ganaraska Forest. Riding a KTM 300XCW, 2020.

This was the best XC course I have ever rode! The track, weather, and race was absolutely perfect...I wish I could say the same for my luck. Some mechanical failures at the beginning of the race forced me to start 5 minutes late and then left to struggle in the race. Had to pull off on the last lap due to a loosened oil cap that left oil spewing everywhere!

Holy man, this guy is doing insane 720s
Nice my brother!!!!!!!!
Is there age restrictions on these trails my son's 12 and has a 85cc KX. I looked into insuring him and they won't unless he's 16 do you have an insurance company that you recommend for younger riders
Does your smoke at idle?
It's much easier to drop it out from the bottom.
As a 225lb beginner rider, I’ve ridden the 300xc and it felt like way too much bike for me to handle. I’m looking at buying the 150 xc-w, but I keep getting told I’m too big for the 150. Would a 250xc-w be better for me? Or should I be okay on the 150. I want something that I can get into the powerband without feeling like it’s trying to kill me. I like to ride single track and rough enduro kind of riding.
Try to 300 XCW first. The XC model is tuned for racing so it is a way different ride than an XCW. The XCW (even the 300) is much smoother and will not put you in a wheelie when you give it gas. You may also want to consider a 500 EXC-F (four stroke) as it is also extremely smooth. I agree with other that the 150 is not your bike. Don't focus too much on the CC, the biggest issue is how they are tuned. A motocross 125 would be more dangerous for you than a 500 EXC or 300 XCW model ranges.
@@BigIronMoto quick update, Ive gotten way more comfortable on that 2020 300xc and have grown to love it after riding it everyday for a month, now my question is how much snappier is the ‘24 250xcw compared to the 300xcw. I’ve heard some things about the 300 “feeling slower” in the top end, where as the 250 requires you to be on the pipe a little more. I’m starting to lean towards the 250 if I’m being honest. It has reasonable bottom end, and pretty strong top end which is what I like.
@@joshmullins9634 The XC is far more peppy and race oriented. The XCW is mellow, low power, excellent for trail riding and harder terrain. It depends a lot on your riding style. If you want to race, then go XC, if you want to trail ride, then go XCW. Either way, I would go 300 as the new TBI 300 has very smooth. linear power so it is there if you need it, but does not feel twitchy (like the XC). Hope that helps.
Signed up for this for 2024 after two years of the Algonquin two day. Looks nice and gnarly. Yes! Great video to get the single track juices flowing. With my cottage only 16 kms away it will be the perfect Father’s Day weekend.
Hope you enjoy it! It's always a great event.
I love mine, but it doesn’t fit very well over my Leatte chest protector. What pads do you use with your pack?
Leatte 3DF Air
Does the 250 feel more nimble than the 300? Heard people pick 250 over 300 because of the handling.
I wouldn't describe it that way. It is smoother at most people's riding pace with may translate into feeling "nimble". The 250 is a great bike. If you aren't competing or doing really wild stuff on the trails, the 250 is a perfect bike.
How does it fit over a chest protector?
Perfectly fine. Same as any other pack. Highly adjustable.
Great video, but man it's like nails on the chalkboard every time you pronounce it "deck-uhls" lmfao.
ok
Dude, i just read the monthly OFTR newsletter. Hope your doing ok man. 🛵
Thank you. I may do a longer video soon to explain it all but I am telling the story on my instagram page @bigironmoto so follow there if you are interested in seeing how I am coming along.
Im glad your recovery is coming along. I dont have social media but i got my wife to look up your IG and i see your getting better. I love your dog, i have a brindle frenchy that you met at ORPS. Get well soon man, i'll keep my notifications on for when you post dude!
Was really looking for comments on the 450..
Happy to answer anything I remember about it. I did ride the 450 and found it really nice. Torque felt great and 4T power made it extremely smooth through the trails. My first choice would be a 300XCW but that is only because I like doing hard enduro and having the lightness of the 2T is my preference. HOWEVER, if I was buying a bike as a guide or general trail riding, I would probably get the 450. I really liked the 450.
what's the cost to run there, you ship a bike ?
Rented. From Canada, all in with flights and rental etc. probably about $13K back in 2022
2 stroke or 4 stroke
This is a four stroke but either way, oil changes as frequent as you can afford is important.
You can ride unplated dirt bikes on the street there?
You can! Doesn’t seem like a lot of rules during Romanaics.
All about overcoming adversity from beginning to end . Appreciate the video ,it was well done! You have a new subscriber!
Much appreciated!
How.many of you that ride hard enduro wear knee braces?
From what I have seen, nearly everyone does.
Any recommendations for off-road insurance for DRZ70 and DRZ125??? Newmarket area
Speak to George Rappos from Desjardine
why do they have to make riding so lame and highly regulated?
Could be a lot worse. Many jurisdictions don't allow riding at all or way more regulated. A lot of Europe is awful with virtually no places to ride. Plates, cheap insurance, and inexpensive trail pass seems like a pretty good deal to me.
Great video! Sorry for the late comment but is the Bionic Tech suitable for riding on the streets? I‘m thinking of wearing this with just a hoodie over it but I wasnt able to find and info on the material. Does it protect me when sliding on asphalt?
I doubt Alpine Stars would recommend that.
Where did you get the cabinets from?
Princess Auto. They often go on sale.
2:44 sorry I did not recognize you. I was the guy on the right with the orange t-shirt.
Man thats dumb... LA is much better for riding, you dont need any of that stuff you just ride a bike in LAthats it. In Ontario you could just get an electric dirtbike and avoid all that crap and passes lol especially if you live in the city :P
The side plate isn't one piece. You need to remove the rear fender as there is a small screw behind it that holds the side plate on
How did they hold up?
Excellent as always. I always use SKDA and they are the best. They will even transfer over to new plastics if you break some (just use a heat gun to reapply).
I think just sealing the floor and putting down gym mats so you can pull them out to clean or replace.
Can you wear that as the only protection when riding on the road?
I doubt it. See if Alpine Stars recommends it. Likely will get shredded in a road slide IMO.
Great product! Did u glue or stitch the KT tape to the seat or just peel and stick.
Just peel and stick. I have to do a new one every once and a while but it’s inexpensive so no big deal
It's February 27th. The temperature is 65°F. And I lost my keys While trying to get a ride in on my 500 before work. 😩😩😩At least you're Not getting ready to emergency hall me out of the forest like in july🤟😁 I think I got your number still , so I should call you if I wanna try to go to gopher dunes with you guys, huh?😂
I don't remember that. What happened in July?
@@BigIronMoto ...I blew my starter fuse and I had to walk back to get my MX bike near trail 199
Oh I see, you are referring to HM trails! Yeah, that was a crazy day. Hope you are better now and ribs are healed up. Yeah, if you ever wan to ride GD, let me know and we can try to meet up@@819jt
Yeah, we will shred, then!
A++ on the send at the end!
🎉 it will be hard to replicate a day like this in February again❤
So lucky that the stars and sand aligned for us on this one. Awesome day
Trail cleaning nightmare
Where is this ?
New SUB. Very nice video and production. I'll be looking for more. Won't see you on track unless you move to the morning race though. Good luck this year !
Thanks!
Great call on the aspirin. I am adding five items to my kit after watching your video
Glad it was helpful!
I’m struggling to get my kx 450 x insured can you guide me to a company that will insure ?
Try George Rappos at Desjardine
@@BigIronMoto thank you
What happen if you remove them when the winter is over. Do the tire is too damaged and you better keep them on?
I don’t remove them. Not worth it. Just keep the tire studded. New tire is cheap.
Good vid. What’s the the stock spring rate for rider weight
Manuals are all online and it will show stock and recommended springs for weight. Stock ranges between 165-185 I believe.
those sock are for wear on inside not outside!:)
I guess you can wear them whenever you like but pretty sure they are for outside so it doesn’t snag pants. Most wear Moto socks underneath so socks would be redundant. Braces generally come with socks that are for over, not under braces.
je vien de finir les mien !! bonne ride!!
Well done man!! are you in Simcoe area? I just got a '14 350 EXC-F and was hoping maybe we could work something out for lessons this summer - is there a way to contact you?
I am. Ride SCORRA a lot. Reach out to me when trails open. Instagram is best. 🏁
This channel is great! Cool you have done so many different races. I have a 24 300 KTM and would love to add a four stroke as well! Hitting Simcoe up for the first time this coming summer.
Thanks! Have fun!
Did you change gearing
No. Stock gearing.
Can one make any dirt bike street legal in Ontario
No. As far as I know, only bikes that come made from factory made for highway use are road legal. Speak to MTO.
Hey this video is awesome! I recently got my second bike, kx125, im looking to go trail riding at ganny and other places, do i have to join a club? wont i still have access too all the places even without joining the club? If i domt choose a club, they will just send the oftr sticker right? Im new to this so im looking to get some help. Thanks in advanced bud ride safe 🤟
Ganny is it’s one separate forest from the OFTR trail system. You don’t need an OFTR pass to ride Ganny (just insurance, plates, and Ganny pass). OFTR is province-wide trail network that you need an OFTR pass (and insurance and plates) to ride legally. You must pick at least one club when signing up for OFTR. They send you stickers.
@@BigIronMoto you rock brother. Thankyou! Ill look into it and ask more questions if i need help. You earned a sub 👊
@@BigIronMoto also, where can I purchase a pass for ganny? Is it online or in person?
@@_christienn._ online. Their website. Ganaraska Forest Authority. Search for motorized vehicle pass. All trails are closed until May 1 now.
Are you going to sell the bike given the suspension switch for the 2024?
No, I have A-Kit suspension on it already. The 24 upgrade is really nice though. I rode a few 24s and it’s amazing.
Red ktm
There are differences beyond plastics but yes, it is the same parent company. With some models, the differences and prices are significant. It’s not simply a matter of colour.
Exc f 350?
It’s a 350 XC-F (North American model).
@@BigIronMoto okey, thank you
Quick! Keep your inside elbow up and it's darn right perfect! Better than I'll ever hit that.
Long time 2 stroke rider. When this came out with a normal sized tank I had to have it primary because of the looks and between this is probably the ultimate stock 4 stoke in the woods if you can handle it which I have 't adjust to the flame out coming t corners. My only other complaint is the new kick stand design is hard to catch with your boot. Other than that I can't think of another 4 stoke that I would want unless I want to and YZ 250FX
