The Surprising Truth: Steroid & Natural Bodybuilders Look Alike (To Most People)
Do you have any recommendations for warm up and cool down besides your sets?
Hi sir do u think this one set to failure work for natural lifters ? Like i can see lot of youtubers like jay vincent mr america john heart dewe bayer promotes this..this really works ? Or do i need to do 20 plus set per week like these new research shows ? Or the way u teach us to train …please let me know sir
Sir please reply
Another spot on video. My first gym was a lock up garage in Loughborough UK, I was 14 then (69 now) and it was a place with no heating, no machines just a few barbells and dumbbells. What made the place was the community. We all chipped in to pay for the electric and a key to be cut and we learnt from others. No drugs ever. It was great. Over the years I have witnessed exactly what Richard says, personally I still go to a gym as I can’t afford my own gear but also I do see people there I know now and probably because we are from the same generation we train really hard then meet up after for a coffee. The one constant in my life has been weight training and I will never ever stop.
Thanks for watching and I think so many of us from earlier generations had amazing experiences in gyms as places that were communities of like minded individuals and we didn't realize how truly special it was. And that it would not always be this way. Thankful to have been fortunate enough to have had it and glad to hear that you at least have a band from the old days. Give them all my best next time you meet up!!!
Stil remember i almost fainted when i tried for the first time..its worth it.many guys defining hit as something like sets to failure ..actualy its almost no rest between sets and,in last set, bring the instensity and in the 3rd set try make the set harder n harder ..thats how i practice n teach my clients too..its a brief system..mostly done in 15 min or less..thanks kevin you are great
And thank you for taking the time to look at my work. Really appreciate it!!!
Got one more question. Three sets the last one is to failure. The first and second set. How many reps do you recommend to leave in the tank?
Give this a watch- ruclips.net/video/tZijeO7Xu-M/видео.htmlsi=B351SahUPSCOmL8M
Hey Kevin, love your content! Quick question: are bicep curls sufficient to grow massive forearms? Or do I need to do forearm curls as well ?
Thanks for watching and as a rule with this training protocol, your forearms should be shot from training back and shoulders. And will grow as a result in my experience. Hope that helps.
Most other trainers are only giving opinions. With Kevin, it’s actually data
And always will be. Just a bit dismayed that not it's not as common as I think it needs to be.
Is this all you would do for legs?
Absolutely not. Just a snapshot.
I'm gonna start falling your three day workout. I like to do farmers walks.Where do you recommend putting that in the exercise rotation.
Thanks for tuning in and I do farmer's walks for traps on back and shoulder day. Hope that helps.
Great , thank you very much for your quick response.
Hi Kevin, Are workouts logged? How do you know starting weights and reps to use for the first two sets? How far do you take them? How do you know the weight to use for the movement when everything changes all the time? I like going to failure on movements but I found with volume training at the age of 50 it wears on my joints. I have taken a week plus off of full body 3x a week to rest before employing your methods which make sense. Thank you for all the information you provide for free as I have been consuming it nonstop. -Heath
Thanks for watching, Heath and to answer your question, I logged my workouts for decades, and having done this for so long, I know exactly what weights to start with for any exercise that will lead me to where I need to be at the end. And with my clients I can tell exactly how much they need each time as well, as you develop a sense of what's just right over years of personal observations and experience with clients. Bear in mind, it was designed to be done under supervision, so weight choices are not a problem for an experienced trainer in this system, but on your own you will have to do your best guestimate. Hope that helps and let me know how it goes!!!
Finding that push and having someone to push has proved so vital and I'm grateful to have this team to consistently help with that! Of course watching you grab 80lb dumbbells for the "warm up" set always helps!!!
And it goes both ways, partner!!!👊
I am 75 years old and push as hard as possible. Looking good for my age, it's not for many at my age. My friend's think mr MAD......................lol.
Thanks for tuning in and my oldest client trained was 91 when I met him and he lamented the fact that everyone told him before to go easy, when he found it not just felt better but produced better results when he went hard at it!!! So keep it going and thanks again!!!
When you do zero rest between sets, which reps "count" towards the objective
Thanks for watching and I would have to say all of them. As every rep has a purpose when I train to get me to the state I need to achieve to stimulate muscle growth. Hope that helps!!!
Hi Kevin, awesome video! Just two questions, does it matter if we do first legs or chest or back in the beginning of the week since you recommend to do legs, back, chest with stuff added, but it is easier for me to do chest, legs, back? And second question, is okay to do just few exercises but constantly change reps and weight and impelement different intensitu techniques since I train in a very busy gym and rarily have access to fastly change to another exercise?
Thanks for watching and what I would recommend to keep the 6-7 days between workouts is that you always do the same muscle groups in the same order each week, but take a look at this video as I go into a bit of this-ruclips.net/video/bzH6sl4pi_c/видео.htmlsi=WOJZ3NCGfONolPKh and as for changing it up, that's the whole premise of Naturally Intense High Intensity Training, so do indeed change it up and it makes training in busy gyms a breeze. It's how I did it with a ridiculous number of clients mostly in rush hour in gyms for decades before I switched to 100% online training. Hope that helps!!!
@naturallyintense I saw this video, that is what I was refferring to. Maybe I didnt explain well, I mean to train chest, legs, back like always, because I train like you now, legs, back, chest, and i cant do chesr well because I am always sore in shoulders or arms, and I think this way would help me, is that okay? I mean I know you say tp do legs when you are freashest but I feel like I am miising out because I cant perform that well. And for busy gym, it is so rare that something is free other than benches with dumbells, and I perform, flat or incline dumbell presses, flys, pushups, sometimes dips because it is busy, I mean I might be able to do something else but not with this short of brakes. What is your tip on that
@@damjandinic104 You can put legs in the middle, it doesn't make a difference in terms of overall results and given that there are hundreds of exercises for any body part with dumbbells and benches, I would say you need to widen your repertoire of exercises. As many of our clients only have a pair of dumbbells and a bench and they do just fine!!!
So either youre a nontesponder or creatine just has a placebo affect.
From what I have seen anyone following a proper diet doesn't seem to have much effect from using it whereas anyone on a vegan or meat deficienct diet tends to feel an initial surge, but even that from what I have seen fades in time.
Hi and thanks for all the advice.I have to share a bicep exercise with you that works better than anything I've ever done. DB preachers; pick a weight i can do 6-10 reps with to failure. 1.do the set of say 8 2.do 8 assisted reps using your free hand 3.do 8 slow negatives on the way down from the assisted set. No rest keep hold of the db,so in theory im doing 8 + 8 + 8 so 24 reps,my biceps are wrecked after 1 set!
Is there a reason why you did not mention anything about dairy product?
Thanks for watching and I don't recommend it as there are far better options.
Hello Kevin. Thanks for your insights This week I try experienced decrease rest periods and it really works for exhausting the muscles and stimulate growth. I have one question. Like many hit trainers you say that you can’t train hard and long at the same time . But there are some people like Geoffrey verity schoefield who train very hard almost taking every set to failure and he train every days for hours. He is now the biggest natural lifter in RUclips. How can you explain that ? People accuse him being on steroids but I don’t think it is the case.
Thanks for watching and the gentleman in question isn't anywhere near being the biggest nor the most impressive natural bodybuilder I have ever seen. You need to spend some time looking at the natural pros to see what can be accomplished as a natural athlete. As for training for hours with every set to failure. All I can say is that he certainly isn't doing Naturally Intense and if he did under supervision, I can tell you for a fact that under those conditions, that would be impossible. It's simple physics and I hope that helps.
Thank you for your answer Kevin.
For me I dont like pushing until I’m going to puke ,I feel as though I have more nervous system fatigue. I prefer but more volume and taking sets with 1-2 RIR. I try to go to failure on smaller muscle groups. Although I would still try this training method as I gotta keep open mind
Thanks for watching and for having an open mind, and as I said, it's never exactly the same training in under supervision but do give it your best and keep me posted on how it goes!!!
@ I’m v interested in how you train , and the short workouts! You’ve done v well with it as we can all see. Did you see one of John Hearts latest videos? He mentioned you in his top 3 RUclipsrs! You gotta do a collab with him 👍
@@Nicholas19823 I did indeed see John's video and we had a fantastic talk a few days ago. Outstanding guy and I am absolutely sure we will be doing something together in the very near future. Thanks again!!!
QUESTION IF YOU REACH TO FAILURE, THEN STOP? DROPSET? OR MOVE TO THE NEXT EXERCISE VARIATION? EXAMPLE IF I REACH MAX TOTAL REPS OF BODYWEIGHT PULL UP TO FAILURE THEN STOP? :)
Thanks for watching and every workout is different in Naturally Intense High Intensity Training so this can indeed be done and sometimes is. Hope that helps.
Hi Kevin Just one more question, with this type of training is slight calorie surplus necessary or even at the maintenance muscles can be built. What is your own experience & also with your clients
Thanks for watching and that is a video in and if itself that is coming soon.
If on was interested, Are you still training coaches 🤔
Due to the interest expressed I am seriously looking into the possibility of a Naturally Intense certification program. Stay tuned for more news on how it develops and thank you for your interest!
Hi Kevin. I enjoy your content enormously. It's great that someone is busting all the myths that surround bodybuilding and providing common sense advice for natural lifters. I do have a question/concern with this particular video. As a person nears muscular failure, they can't perform a rep with any amount of speed or explosiveness. Whether it's a one rep max, or the last rep of a set of 15 reps, the speed slows down significantly. For jump squats to be effective, wouldn't the final few reps be so slow as to be a squat, with no leaving the ground?
Thanks and no, it doesn't look like a small squat, more like a sputter. And bear in mind that you don't always have to go to momentary muscular failure, especially with certain exercises.
is 2 times a week ok ?
In my experience those who trained with this protocol twice a week did have a little less in terms of overall results compared to those training three times a week. But if twice is all you can muster then it's better than nothing. Hope that helps!!!
One of the few who know where it's at. After 46 years of Heavy Duty, my workouts average 6-8 minutes tops.
Thanks for watching and sounds seriously intense!!!
@@naturallyintense I underwent hypnosis mid-90's to overcome pain and boost my intensity levels.
It was hard to go to 3 times a week but I am doing it, and I am definitely not drained or just going through the motions at times, like I did when I went 6 times a week….that mental break is real….by the time the week is up for the next workout, I’m ready to blast each body part on those 3 days
Thanks for tuning and really glad to hear it helped, my friend!!! Keep it going and remember that sometimes less is far more!!!
👍🏾👍🏾🙌🏾 I definitely believe in this direction. I am lifting like this now! I hate not fully working muscle. I am still learning to achieve higher levels of intensity.
Thanks for tuning in and keep it going!!
So true. Much of the huge size pro bodybuilders get is simply from the anabolic drugs causing water retention. Muscles are made of protein and water
Thanks for watching and that much is indeed true.
What about when you're cutting and losing weight? How are we suppose to recover as a natural athlete when we're in a calorie deficit because in a Caloric Surplus its easier to recover
Thanks for watching and to answer your question, there's no difference in how we train pre-contest as firstly my method of dropping weight focuses on increasing muscle and maintaining strength at all times, and it's done incrementally over a far longer time span than most contest prep. And at all times the athlete should and is able to push the same amount of weight. Look for a video on it in the not too distant future and thanks again!!!
Hi Kevin, What’s your thoughts on dairy, specifically cottage cheese and Greek plain yogurt for a protein source?
Thanks for watching and as a rule I avoid it as there are so many other better protein sources that fall more into a natural way of eating that doesn't promote unwanted weight gain. Hope that helps!!!
Holy cow you answered. Thanks Kevin. I use plain Greek yogurt with breakfast and cottage cheese with dinner a lot. I think I’ll substitute with something else and see what happens, although not sure what to use since I eat meat sparingly. Thank you for the prompt response.
@@heathg4283 I value every single person who takes the time to look at my work and every question is an important one. I probably won't be able to keep it up as the channel keeps expanding but I will do my best. And do let me know how it goes!
Such an honest and informative video! you're so right and these philosophies truly work so well. I've been following your program for almost a couple years now and this Halloween. I went as Batman. Many people pointed out how I was actually built like Batman! Lol. thanks to your training philosophies. I have a question if you can help? Is it ever possible to go to intensely? Not of course by something like an injury but as example a few weeks ago, I was doing some heavy squats the heaviest I've ever done. trying to push for maximum intensity. But hours later, I still felt like a truck had hit me. it was quite an awful experience and kind of ruined the day. I'm trying to decide if maybe I had a virus or something else going on? Or is this normal and to be expected sometimes? I felt normal once I rested up. Thanks for your great advice as always! Love that quote you don't know how high high is until you've flown
Thanks for watching and glad to hear that you are making progress!!! And I think i have had more than a few Halloweens in full Batman attire myself! To answer your question, I think it highlights what I said in the video whereby it's a good idea to have some who knows your limits and guiding you as you train. I have at times gone too hard myself and it's important to know what that looks and feels like, and I find training with partners actually helps me tone it down as they have to do what I do and if I say to myself they shouldn't be doing something, it means I won't do it either. Hope that helps!!!
@ are you still offering online coaching?
@@alexpittman3632 Absolutely. It's what I do for a living!
Hi Kevin. If you’re lifting a very heavy weight on your last set, do you still only do 3 sets? For example, if you’re squatting 300 pounds, what weight would you use for your 1st and 2nd sets?
Thanks for watching and I often will start at 135, then 225, then 315lb at the end. I think I have some footage of exactly that. And if I am going heavier I might start at 225 and end at 405lbs but only if I am full warm from another quad exercise before. Hope that helps!!!
Hi, quick question, if your taking almost no rest, but also increasing the weight every set, does that mean you are not going to failure on the first and second sets? Surely if each set was done to failure you would need some rest before doing an even heavier weight next? I guess this kinda makes the 3 sets into one long myo rep/rest pause like set? Thanks in advance.
Great question and thank you for watching! To answer your question, it's a bit difficult as every workout is different. So there may just be a day when it's every set to failure (if there was another exercise beforehand to warm you up) at which point the weight won't be super high but you are still trying to lift as much as you can. Other times it's two sets hard but the last one all out, sometimes it's two sets all out. Or even in some cases one set. As I said before, each session is different and I hope that helps!!!
@naturallyintense yes, thankyou for your reply
@@Jnsbrar Always happy to help whenever I can!!!
Great content - thank you!
And thank you for taking the time to look at my work!!! Really appreciate it!!!
I thought you ate 120g of protein per day. This says 200-228? Do you eat high protein or not?
I ate an average of 120-125 grams of protein from when I first started training to when I left Trinidad and Tobago where I grew up. Which is the period of time when I went from 125lbs to 198.5lbs. Thanks for watching and I hope that helps!!!
@ Ok. Thank you for responding.
@@jjr8220 Always more than happy to help whenever I can!
What I love about high intensity training is that it gets creative since no workout is repeated every training session. There will be no boredom or getting drained or plateau whether it is an All bodyweight movement day or weight days.like for example in chest and Arms day, it will excite me to train since it helps me to think creative on what movements will I do for that day. And most importantly a very effective style in terms of busy people like me. Since I only train around 25 to 45 Mins. My goal is to achieve 10 to 15 Mins like you sir Kevin. However I still got to adapt since pushing that hard with little to no rest is extremely difficult but we are going to get there in a couple of years. It is something that I can do for the rest of my life. Godbless to you sir kevin🙏♥️.
Thanks for watching and truly honored to be able to help, my friend!!! Excelsior!!!💪🏼
Hi Kevin , Thank you for sharing more insights as I am diligently following you from sometime . I have started the high intensity training since more than a month now. I am only confused by the term sets. In your other videos you mentioned 3 sets however in my opinion there should not a concept of set count here as it can be a drop set , giant set , compound set. Also when you say all out I have noticed no matter how hard i run that specific drop set if i rest for 10 mins then I can do one more. I am not very clear what is the precise point at which the set should end. Should i keep going set after set after set until i can no longer do anything ?
Thanks for watching and it's a bit confusing as even the idea of three sets is just a possible framework as every workout is different and a set can indeed mean many things. As far as going again after an all out effort, that would be counterproductive at the worst and a time sink at the least as muscles adapt based on unaccustomed stimulus that creates overload. Once that threshold is met, the adaptive response will occur and doing it again won't make the muscles grow any bigger or any faster as there's limited degree of adaptation possible from each activity. Hope that helps and thanks again for tuning in!!!
Happy Birthday ! I will also be 50 in December. 3 Days a Week Training is best !
Thanks so much, my friend!!! Looking forward to seeing what 60 will look like!!!💪🏼

Hey Kevin do you train your adductors and abductors
For the first time in over forty years. Ive been able to stay consistent. Although ot actually takes me anywhere between one and three hours per week. It's still way better than anything i had tried before, and that includes the protocol i followed when i competed.
Thanks for watching and truly honored to have been able to help, my friend!!!
I need your help Kevin, where do I start?
Thanks for tuning in and you can reach me via my website at www.naturallyintense.net/
kevin as long as the weightlifting sessions are intense and to failure is listening to music okay. this may be a basic question although I am curious of your opinion.
Thanks for watching and absolutely!!! If I am training on my own I ALWAYS have my training music on, as it helps tremendously in those times where you need a little extra push at the end of a set! Hope that helps!!!
