Tales of Westerly NOTE to the reader: The events of this chapter do not correlate to a cut scene, but rather fills in events between the second cut scene of episode 24 and the first cut scene of episode 25. Future note: the cut scene in episode 25 will be featured in episode 26. For now…Enjoy! Chapter 8: The Lies (published in episode 25) The next few days were a blur, not because he was particularly busy, but his mind needed time to process the recent events. After docking at Saltshaw Harbor and thanking Captain Seawalker for saving him from a very long and tiring swim, Figgsy made his way to the main keep where Lady Snoopers was waiting for him. There, he and the great Lady of Saltshaw briefly discussed plans for a means to acquire what would hopefully be a never-ending supply of gun powder. Such a farm would server many functions. First, the gunpowder would be used for firework rockets for the recently acquired elytra. Figgsy thought this would be needed to help organize and connect Westerly in their approaching fight with the Wither. In addition, gun powder could be used in brewing potions by turning simple effects of potions into splash potions that could come in handy for many reasons, not the least of which includes helping (or hurting) in a fight. Beyond firework rockets and potions, the making of TNT would be a boon in construction…or more correctly in deconstruction in preparation for new buildings and, where needed, terraforming the lands, not to mention the mining of Ancient Debris. Finally, as a smile crept across Figgsy’s face, he thought of fireworks…in celebration of…well, just about anything. “What are you smiling for?” Lady Snoopers demanded. Shocked out of his reverie, Figgsy stuttered, “Umm, what…oh, nothing. Just thinking about, something…funny?” He averted his eyes as he realized his answer was obviously a ruse, and that even under the best of circumstances, fooling or lying to Lady Snoopers would be a difficult pointless. “Well, you need to keep focused,” the Lady of Saltshaw said, perhaps a bit too harshly. “But forgive me Figgsy. I know you’ve been busy with the Wizard of Bark. And before that your harrowing adventure in The End.” Lady Snoopers looked off to the other side of the room and snapped her fingers, at which a keep’s paige came running. “You must be exhausted. Here, go with Fredrick. He’ll take you to a room prepared for you. After some rest, we will discuss the plans for the creeper farm. I have the perfect location, out beyond the Bay…you know, in case things get out of hand. We don’t want explosions here in Saltshaw. Our town is much to beautiful to have it blown up. I’ve already got your building supplies together,” she trailed off, seeing Figgsy starting to fidget at being overwhelmed. “But never mind that for now. Go and rest. We’ll talk tomorrow.” Figgsy bowed, and turned towards the paige who led him out of the room. Once out of earshot of the great Lady, Figgsy whispered, “Frederick, is it? Umm...I don’t suppose I could get a really long hot bath before retiring?” Over the coming days, Figgsy rested, then met with Lady Snoopers again where they discussed detailed plans for the Creeper farm to be located out beyond Salt Bay. He longed to return to Figgs End, but knew this build was important or else Rogerda would not have brought him here. The Wizard knows best, he thought to himself. And with that, he set off to create a plentiful supply of gunpowder for Westerly. Within a few weeks, the framework for the gun powder farm began to emerge over the waters just far enough away from Salt Bay as to not cause a problem. Figgsy had a number of workers who fell into a routine, so he was becoming less hands on and more of a supervisor. With more time on his hands, Figgsy’s mind began to sense an urgency. Growing nervous, he kept checking with the locals of Saltshaw for any news, though he didn’t know what news he expected. Then one day he received a summons from Rogerda to meet him at the Tower of Bark, rather than at Figgs End. Without delay, the Master of Figgs End left the building in the capable hands of the workers of Saltshaw and made his way inland, around by the Keep of Anointment and into the land of Bark. From the Keep, and to the north, he could see out beyond the lake the massive Tower of Bark, majestically towering well above the tree tops. Grandiose yet simple in design, the Tower was topped by a tree, a fitting monument to the Ancient Tree from which the lands of Bark were founded. It was in this tower that the Wizards of Bark made their home. In this time, that wizard was Rogerda of Allendale. Figgsy made his way around the lake and over the bridge leading to the foot of the Tower, as it was simply called by the people of Westerly. Once there, he made the climb to the wizard’s upper room where he saw his friend sitting behind his desk and surrounded by volumes upon volumes of books, tomes, maps, and scrolls. Looking up, the Wizard of Bark remarked, “Well, it’s about time.” His left eye twitched as his head, all but imperceptivity, jerked downward and to the right. Figgsy knew his friend Rogerda excelled at the art of sarcasm. For most it took a while to get to know the wizard and understand when he was or not making a joke. “I think I’m a bit water logged from Saltshaw, so I guess I’m sailing slowly these days?” he tried to jest. “Hmmm…” the wizard grunted. Then, getting down to business, “I’ve been pouring over these writings and have found some interesting facts you need to be aware of.” The wizard shuffled around some books and placed a hand written note on top of the pile. Figgsy pulled up a chair and sat opposite his friend, waiting for the wizard to continue. “First of all, the Wither is a formidable foe. I’m afraid there may be little the people of Westerly can do to stop his advancement. Once he begins his attack, I fear for the people.” Rogerda’s tone was grim, and his expression dour. Figgsy was a bit shocked at such an unsettling prediction from someone he knew to be generally up beat and positive, even in the most dire of circumstances. “But surely there’s something we can do? We saw how Jerry defeated him before.” “True, but consider these facts: first, the Notch Apples are now a very rare item. Even the Wanderers aren’t as generous with them as they were centuries ago. Second, while we were there in spirit, if you will, I believe the Wither may have seen us…” Figgsy was shocked, “but-but, we were ‘whispers’ on the wind, as you said. How could he have seen us?” “Don’t interrupt me, Figgsy,” the wizard said more sternly than Figgsy thought warranted. Once again, his eye twitched and his face jerked. “Remember the Wither is a terror of the Nether. Made from the undead, he may have a sight beyond what we understand. And what’s more, he knows who his enemy is in our time.” It didn’t take but a second for Figgsy to realize what the wizard was saying. “You mean, the Wither knows we, me and you, are working to defeat him?” Figgsy squirmed in his seat as a sense of worry came over his face. Rogerda was barely able to hide what might have been a sense of pleasure at Figgsy’s realization. Seriously, he continued, “Precisely. The Wither knows who you are, and is very likely putting his efforts into dealing with you first. Once you’re out of the way, there will be nothing to stop him from turning the lands of Westerly into The Darkness, where the nether and the overworld are fused as one. Make no mistake, there shall be no light among the lands of Westerly after that point.” Horror stretched across Figgsy’s face. “Rogerda! Please…tell me there’s something we can do? Surely, all is not already lost?” he pleaded, bowing his head in despair. Keeping his gaze on the Master of Figgs End, the Wizard of Bark let the tension build. Once again, his left eye twitched again and his face jerked as he whispered, “Perhaps.” Rogerda let the silence continue another moment. “Perhaps there is a way.” Figgsy’s head raised to meet the wizard’s eye. “Please,” he said, just above a whisper, barely having the energy to speak. “Tell me,” he begged. “The roses,” Rogerda began. “The Wither’s power may lay in the withered roses,” he said, glancing at the black rose brought to him by Alfie, now framed on the wall of his chamber. “He’s left one in the lands of each of the Great Houses. We must gather each rose, five in number. We must destroy the roses, then perhaps…” he trailed off for emphasis. “Then, and only then, the Wither’s power may be diminished enough that we can defeat him.” A glimmer of hope filled Figgsy’s soul. Perhaps all was not lost. Maybe this was the way he would save Westerly. “We already have one rose. And I’ve spoken with Phiepy, King Lane, Lord Cobb, and Lady Saltshaw. They each have found a rose.” “Yes,” the wizard confirmed. “You must go to each of the Houses and gather the roses. You alone Figgsy. Then, you must bring them to me…”

I've been watching you since your hardcore series and was really inspired by how you play the game and I loved the lore in the lets play world and watching it evolve into this has been a blast. An SMP like this is such a cool idea and something I'd love to be apart of some day. Can't wait to see what every one builds over time and the stories they tell. It's going to be epic.

This is insane mate! I can tell and appreciate the amount of time this would've taken you to put together. From setting up the camera angles, sorting through the footage, to the music and sound effects added in, even sitting in a room nodding your head lol. The script writing also isn't something easy to come up with. This is great, I hope people respect the time that goes into these. 20-25 minute videos are time consuming enough, a hour long is crazy! Lots of respect Figgsy!

Safira of Saltshaw has a nice ring to it, and purple is the best colour so it's definitely meant to be.

That was such a creative way to tie the singleplayer world into the smp! The server is looking great already! I love that everyone is still building in that medieval style too, so proud of you, JFiggsy!
