Should Gift With Purchases be bad?
Gift With Purchases, aka GWP, are an interesting topic around LEGO as a brand. Some you can get relatively cheap on the secondary market and others are out of control. The recent Star Wars GWP happens to land on the latter of those two. So, it begs the question, should you be able to buy them outright? Should they be worse so they don't sell out?

Lego Alpine Lodge is (almost) PERFECT

Lego Alpine Lodge is 2023's Holiday Village addition. A simple, log cabin build that happens to be one of the very best this line has to offer. However, there is something about it that may just hold it back from true greatness. #lego #alpinelodge #holiday
you buy a stand or a wall mount for it boom problem solved.
What i did to display the Ornithopter is i took a spool of fishing line i got and fed through 4 points on the set, long enough to secure the ends of all 4 on two identical metal shelves. Those being in the tail right in front of the black exhausts, in the center with two stacked rows of technic pins/holes just behind the knob to lower the ramp and landing gear and through the main hinge of the ramp. Additionally, before i received the set, i had gathered the necessary technic parts from my own collection to replace all the red, yellow and blue parts that stuck out far too much. Could of course have looked into replacing the orange balljoint connectors and the two special technic linkages too, but felt those could either wait or be left as they are.
Wait so, the only problem you have with it is that it’s big? Sounds like there’s really no problem then 😂 For some, “bigger is better,” and if you actually have the space for it, then it sounds like all issues are bypassed, pretty much. There’s also the option to hang it with some wiring; makes it look airborne, which is awesome, but also occupies its space very efficiently.
If You find it too big to display it anywhere in a shelf, why do You not just hang it at the ceiling? Experiment a bit with a nylon string. There should be plenty of space to display it flying around somewhere and if You succeed in posing it in a steep curve flight, a possibly studded bottom would not spoil the appearance too much?
Exaclty. I felt it would look alot better to have it suspended mid air. I forgot about this one. I was like 8 when I got it.. 22 years ago ☠️
Where did u go pls upload ❤❤❤
I would love to have this in my collection to be with the other talking sorting hat set I don't know if theres more of the sets or if this one and the other one are the only sets
I just found one for €300 WTF 😂
It’s out of control
Omg I had that set
shut up lol, be happy that you have something cool for free on top of your "160 dollocks worth" of Lego toy
Great comment! Address nothing while putting me down for no reason! If you watched the video you’d know I’m fine with it, but you have to feel better by putting someone else down without critically thinking about anything. Go away!
The only people mad about this set are poor people and small children that weren’t even alive during the prequels
Yes because Lego is a childrens toy. It says it’s for people 10+ on the box, what 10 year old can afford to spend $160 on Lego especially when it’s not their birthday or Christmas.
@@smashbrew2039 Lego Star Wars has been a collectors "toy" since 2010 and kids simply can’t have everything they want sometimes Timmy has to except he can’t have every toy and stop blaming the company for making new things
@@djdjdijontell me you watch MandR without telling me you watch MandR
What about the people that genuinely couldn’t get because it sold out? There’s more to the puzzle than “people are poor or are kids”. I’m not mad about it but I think it is a borderline scummy business practice.
@@Thelegosguy "sold out" any self respecting adult should have had their £160 ready on the 1st and in the uk the set was still available all away up until the end of the 4th, giving out a free gift isn’t scummy business practices it’s the opposite a nice gift for the hardcore fans on SW day
Bruh americans always complain about lego prices $60 for a lego set ?! Bruh in México that shit is $100!!!
And I’ll do it again lol!
You fr should give me one 😂, nice vid tho
I’ll think about it lol
@@Thelegosguy lol thanks
I had one
Thank you to whoever liked my comment
Oh I have this one!
There's nothing really unique in the set. The same 25th brick comes with every 25th set this year and you could get the exact same pieces from pick a brick and the ever-so-cheap B1's from just about anywhere. Would it be cool as a separate purchase? Yeah, same for every GWP set pretty much. Are people complete idiots for buying this for twice or more it's listed price just to get some box art? Also yeah, and I'd call the sellers idiots too if not for the fact that a lot of Lego SW fans have serious obsession and FOMO issues, and many will end up adding an $80 lot of the cheapest minifigs and some brown bricks to their cart lmfao. The only way I'd call this set a problem is if it came with a unique figure or pieces unobtainable elsewhere. That would be pretty scummy. GWP's that are actually decent sets without anything exclusive(no, boxes are not part of a set; people who think this have severe consumerist brain rot) are just fine with me. Besides, Lego has to incentivize direct purchases from their own site some way, because otherwise there's no reason to when Amazon exists and has much faster shipping on a global scale lol.
I had to restart the video so I could reed all of this valuable information 😂
can we still buy them during June?
Nope. They sold out in like 2 minutes.
All i'm asking for is the ability to buy them separately.
Would’ve been nice.
Exactly and hear me out to keep the collectors happy two they could’ve done a 25 anniversary remake of the og cloud city boba
Yes
Damn nice video 😊
Thanks man!
I love gifts but this one is more of a battle pack and should be sold as one ☝️
Ngl, I'd rather go out with a guy who had a cool Droideka than a boring AT-TE
you're in luck! Here I am!
You have 85 subs dont act like your opinion means shit
Let's not play the subscriber game bro. If that mattered, my opinion would mean more than yours.
God damn, hot take after hot take lmao
Fr
I have that set, what’s it worth?
No hate but i think 20 is just a bit to much for that set normaly its for sale around 10 so you paid a litle too much
I bought it for 10 but the shipping was almost 10 as well. 🤷♂️
@@Thelegosguystill its very old and should be priced as such
My dad had this when he was a kid
And now you can too lol!
That set is good for the price definitely aimed at a fun but not realistic element 8/10
Definitely not realistic when compared to the movie lol!
I bought it (on discount) but yeaaah these things are getting way way too expensive for what they are. That goes for all of lego, but its felt even moreso in the licenced sets. Its taking away from my enjoyment. For 65 this should be better (no stickers for instance) and it should be more stuff.
It’s true. All Lego right now feels out of control. The licensed sets especially are bad.
i love how americans complain about pricing! $65 for the droid set? try $90 in australia
That’s crazy!
I think the target audience is under 30 and didn't understand the controversy and just grew up always knowing the prequels were star wars.
This set isn't meant for kids.
I didn’t say it was. I just said it’s confusing who it’s for.
Okay, so that is understandable. Just thought it mean it, tganks for clarification@@Thelegosguy
Well. That is your opinion. Each of us must choose on what we will spend our money on and decide if it is worth it. For example. I bought the Venator because I wanted Captain Rex but also I wanted the ship too. It is a magnificent ship. But some people only want Rex and they buy the set to get him. Unfortunately the same Rex will come in the Y-Wing set this summer and will only cost about $13.
I really love this thing and having it in hand compared to price there definitely should have been more for the price to fill out some of the build and fix the god awful mini fig droideka but overall the references to the technique model and aim towards adult fan’s justify the product a bit more to me though ill always hope for prints on parts for things like this at this price.
Alt tilte: speedrun for hate
I must have missed the part where I’m supposed to care
You don’t have too, but you are here.
The side build is bad, but the main droideka is great. Your take is all over the place. You're constantly contradicting yourself.
2:24 BROOO I LOVE THESE REFERENCES OK I SUBBED lol
amazing vid
Glad you enjoyed it!
There is such thing as a $65 display model. Like I don't understand your point whatsoever. Are you saying sets can only be marketed as display models if they're above a certain price? Which if that's the case that's an absolutely ridiculous argument to make.
My point is that it’s expensive for what you get and doesn’t have a clear demographic.
I personally like all of the prequels and it’s your opinion to dislike them, but man come one Revenge Of The Sith is awesome.😭
Only 54 subs??
You can be 55😏
@@Thelegosguy Bet
You represent everything I dislike with this one lol
Why you gotta be insulting?
This set is for adults who don't want to spend half their salary on UCS sets
That’s fair.
yeah, or take up their entire shelf, for me this is the perfect size to have one of my favorite designs from the movies on a shelf
As much as I am a big fan of Lego Star Wars I will agree get the prices have gotten way out of hand, but honestly a lot of Legos other lines have gotten really expensive as well. Solid points and video!
Thanks! It’s true, Lego is a premium toy brand but it feels like the Star Wars seems like the worst offender.
You called the movies terrible, instant downvote lol byyyyeeeeeee
No one can have an opinion that isn't yours, I understand.
Personally i love lego star wars but I agree that there aren't a lot of amazing sets but some of them are pretty cool, and a large amount of the minifigures are spectacular.
My issue with lego star wars is that a lot of times it's just gray plates around a technic frame to make yet another clone or imperial ship. Even as a kid, I've always enjoyed the star wars sets that weren't just some clone or empire gray spaceship a lot more, but they don't make them as much. I love the sets that are of places and scenes, or even just non empire/republic vehicles, so much more. I'm honestly surprised there's no playscale or larger munificent or lucrehulk ship, no nebulon B or MC-80's either. I've kinda moved on to Mega's halo sets and Cobi, since they've picked up the metaphorical pieces lego left behind in its pursuit of collector value items. The build construction and play features are really nice in those competitors and, at least for Cobi, the piece quality is identical. I'm a total manchild for lego and star wars, so pure display/collector sets or figures don't do much for me.
The repetition of some of those gray UCS models is mind numbing it’s true. At least this one doesn’t have that issue!
L take.

@Steveburger_ Looks like you might of liked your own comment 🤔
Op is right. The logic in this video is just not right. It's fine to not like the prices, but to not like the sets because of the prices doesn't make sense. Wait for sales and buy the sets. Literally every Lego set goes on sale, somewhere, at some point in its life cycle.
@@MrMcSnuffyFluffy Not sure you finished watching but I can explain what you missed by not paying attention. I said the set is good! But it's overpriced for what you get, the side build is terrible, and wastes parts that should've been used on the main build. I also said it's confusing. It has play features that make the display-ability much worse but is not for kids. It's a display model that wastes room and features child friendly elements. It's confused, messy, and overpriced. Despite this, it's still solid.
Don’t diss the prequels man all three of those movies were awesome
lol I really hate them but I won’t try and stop you from liking them 😂
OT and PT fans must work together to destroy the ST
Nah fam the phantom menace still sucks
@@brockfoose9892im a fan of both but nah, i'm not whiny like you hardcore sequel haters
phantom menace is kinda boring but it's good i guess
You said this set is for 30 year old men and then explained how kids can’t afford it. lego RUclipsrs just like to complain smh
I think you missed my point friend, but I can help clarify. Yes, I said it was for 30 year olds as a joke because it is sort of a display model. That said, I personally feel that this set doesn’t pick a lane. Which is my point in the video. A lot of people can’t afford UCS so this is a nice cheaper end display model. I get that. However, since it’s also trying to be a model with play it has some ugliness that isn’t great for display. I definitely could’ve been clearer in the video but that’s my ultimate issue with this line. Lego Star Wars is not cheap no matter which way you cut it and, in this case, it’s not expensive enough to be a great display. The pod racer diorama is great! It’s under $100 and looks good on display. It picked a lane. For the most part this line doesn’t. Thanks for watching though.
