Dexter has specific temp requirements for the lithium grease used. I found auto parts stores often carry varieties that don't meet minimum specs. Also, Dexter states never pump grease without hub spinning.

Might want to use wheel blocks (chocks) on the other tire to prevent trailer moving around. I would also loosen the lug nuts before jacking it up. Same with lowering it. Tighten a bit when jacked, then tighten lug nuts to proper torque when all the weight is supported by the wheel/tire, i.e., when jack removed. I have become pretty committed to proper torque on truck/vehicle and trailer lug nuts. Especially on my boat trailer which have their own brakes. Always check proper inflation as well. I see so many sketchy trailers flying down the road and it’s super dangerous to the driver and other people on the road. These trailers are light duty but if you’re going to run them at highway speeds, best to have your weight distribution (tongue weight), lug nut torque, bearing adjustment and lubrication, and tire pressure right. Look up “death wobble” and see what happens when, for example, tongue weight is off.

What is the rack on top of the trailer for?
Thats for coolers or camping gear. You can also throw another kayak up there.

I plan on purchasing a Hobie this year. While I don't have a vehicle yet that is set up for towing, my next objective, I have decided on acquiring on of yours even if it means a long-distance drive from Minnesota. Anyways, it would also need to transport a standup paddle board, and a Mountain bike which has a detachable Burley Coho XC trailer. With secure lock down points for all to deter five finger Lueys. It would need only one rod carrier but extra storage bins for camping equipment, etc. So, I'll be watching all your videos and jotting down ideas or features that I like. Cheers.

@@thenorthernhandyman maybe find a local rental spot to keep it cheap or a demo day at a local paddle shop to see how you like it.
@@onthewaterinnovations1303 have paddled kayak a few years ago. We hired two 2-person kayaks and paddled for one day. Great times but dont really have that kind of time any more.

No we will not being doing a kayak cart. I think yakattack is about to come out with probably the nicest one out there.
@@onthewaterinnovations1303 I haven't seen anyone attempt a 4-wheel cart, something that folds, is strong, lightweight, yet will support the weight of a big kayak loaded with gear, and doesn't require much lifting on the bow. Something you can just put right in the middle and pull it along. Would be cool to have it mounted/locked on your trailers, for days that you can't back right into the water.

I LOVE my OTWI Tourney Light! I used to have to lift my Old Town AP 136 into the back of my truck. Now just slide onto the trailer and go. So many well thought out things on this trailer that I didn't even realize I needed. Drove from Texas to N. Carolina to get mine. Drove straight thru cuz I was so excited. Went straight to Lake Fork with it.
