Big Time Takedown | Gigantic Fall Blue Catfish From the Deep
A giant blue cat found my bait on opening day of gun season for deer! This fish sure made me feel a lot better about missing the opener lol. He was sitting in some very deep water likely trying to rest up during this new cold. The cold water bite has been insane and here's another monster for the books! My first fish in the 80 pound class believe it or not.

Nothing beats nailing a big blue right when you start fishing. Sure, we didn't hardly catch anything else the rest of the day but man was this fish a blast. It totally hammered a small piece of shad and despite the water starting to cool off, this fish was ready to fight big time. He sure took the boat for a spin but luckily Ryan and I won in the end! Outside bends on this river are quick my friends. In most cases they are what I consider no man's land... but a lot of the times it's definitely catfish land. And if you can find a way to drift thru them without getting swept away, you usually have a shot at some pretty nice fish. Here's a nice big blue that slammed my bait!

This fish was proof to me that just because you don't catch anything in the first pass, doesn't mean that they weren't there! This fish somehow pulled a snagged bait out of the hang-up and unbelievably I was able to pull it in. Turns out it was way bigger than it looked too!

Why do people plan a wedding on opening day of deer season? This is the Christmas for guys that only comes once a year. I tell people if they do that I will not be there! But I’m glad you caught a big one! Nice fish!

For sure. I use 50# mono main line down to a 100# mono leader. I crimp my leaders to a barrel swivel and use 10/0 kunsilane hooks. Extremely strong and extremely cheap 💪

Enjoy your posts I quit high school and bought a 36ft Hatteras and chartered out of waukegan for 14yrs but I'm a musky fisherman I don't catch and release I mean it's world record or nothing I keep one a yr they are delicious ,but I love fishing a small river private property but channel cats are loaded. They are excellent eating in there because it's fresh spring water and they feed on minnows and crayfish ,I ckd there stomachs years ago taste like walleye but my youngest son is finishing college instead of taking my boat I'll give you a shout and take him just for a slob, I'll send pics you'd be blown away by catches chartering and musky I guided for free keep up the great content I'll give you a call!

What kind of places do you usually target at night? Little lighter current spots?
I definitely seek out lighter current but I also tend to fish shallower for the first portion after dark. And then if no dice, I move deep.
First thought seeing a 20 minute video from Bard....Oh $hit. Then I watch it. What an incredible night of fishing Brad. Thank you for sharing one of them nights people would never believe if it wasn't on video. Just incredible.
