Altimeter Motives Dual Garmin G5 Instrument Panel | Home Flight Simulator | Pilot Training
I have a dual G1000 instrument setup at home, but the flight school has aircrafts with dual G5. So I started looking for a dual G5 instrument panel for my home flight simulator. That's when I came across this fantastic panel from Altimeter Motives. The panel sits in front of a 23.8" (diagonal) monitor and connects to the computer by a USB cable. The instrument cutouts and buttons/dials feel pretty solid. Overall this is a GREAT product. In this video, I show how to set it up and connect to your flight simulator. Setup is a breeze!

that panel only simulate c172 right?
One of the controllers is preconfigured for c172 but if you get the second controller, you can customize it to any aircraft. First controller works out of the box with included software. For the second controller, you will need a copy of AirManager and then you can customize it the way you want, to any aircraft. I have only tried the c172 controller so far.

What tool did you use to unscrew the screws on the throttle quadrant ?
A small hex key Allen wrench. The same one works for both Alpha and Bravo. Something like this would work: a.co/d/aOL4TNQ

👍 Sounds even better when using external speakers!
very good setup, i like the under the desk mounts much better.

Hi. How would you rate TPR against Charlie Pedals? Thanks
Hi! I haven’t tried the Charlie pedals yet, so I don’t have a basis for comparison. As for TPR, it’s a fantastic piece of hardware when coupled with the damper mod. Although, it’s quite expensive :|
@@StudentPilot4Life thank you for the reply. Have you had any issues with damper mod since you purchased?
@@frankhsu7465 No issues, damper mod has been working great!

Excellent video that clearly explains the proper installation of this device. I wasn't aware that this mod was even available and after watching the video, I'm tempted to buy one. I love my TPR's and I've had them for at least 5 years. Do you find you can get much more resistance with this device? That is really my biggest gripe on these pedals. The springs are way too light. Thanks for a great video.
Yes! The damper mod takes the TPR to another level. Totally worth the investment, highly recommend it.
@@StudentPilot4Life Thanks so much. I'll order it today!
@@Starsnu1 Enjoy! And thank you for stopping by.
I have the same rudder pedals and don’t like them at all.
I have since replaced the Logitech pedals with Thrustmaster TPR. I like the new ones much better. And now I can’t blame my terrible centerline jobs on the rudder 😂 Thanks for watching!
@@StudentPilot4Life i’m looking at the thrust master pedals also. But I’m also looking at the virtual fly ruddo pedals. Just curious if you looked at those before buying the thruster.
@@pgreenx I didn’t evaluate many others that were not on Amazon. TPR was listed on Amazon US and had very good reviews, so I just went with it.
Thanks for your answer. I really like the idea of a G1000. I assume you really like it? I am hesitant if I should go the two touchscreens+air manager+knobster, the Flightsimbuilder G1000 or even the RSG G1000. Of course the touchscreens and Air manager route would allow more flexibility flying different aircraft and avionics but on the other hand, this looks darn amazing and realistic.
I am training for my instrument rating so the g1000 hardware helps build my muscle memory wrt the placement of controls. If I wasn’t using this for training, I would have gone with the Air Manager+Knobster setup for the flexibility and lower price point. The RSG G1000 units are very attractive. Although, a comparable setup with RSG would have cost about $800 more. I assume the RSG controls feel much more ‘premium’ but I haven’t used one yet.
Looks good and I also prefer the physical G1000 which I have in my build !!
Thanks! Do you have the panels from FlightSimBuilder as well? Or a different company?
would you say the units wobble at all when secured with the clamps under the table? I read Honeycomb adviced against this saying the screws will be too stressed and are not designed to hold the weight. What is your experience after some months of use, still working well? thanks
I hadn’t thought about this until I saw your comment. The screws are indeed quite small and I can see why Honeycomb would advise against it. But this setup has held up nicely. No issues so far.
wow I like it pls on CDI
Glad you like it! What would you like to see about CDI?

Following your excellent instructions on the video. I have a problem when stretching the window before moving it to the G1000 screen. The window stretches both vertically and horizontally at the same time while i am pulling the right side to the right. Any ideas on how to fix?
XPlane recently changed the behavior in the 12.1 release (not sure exactly which beta version). I have been meaning to file a feature request (or bug report) to restore the old functionality (or provide a full screen option), but I haven’t had the time :(
@@StudentPilot4Life ok thanks. I am not going bonkers! Anxious awaiting your update!
@@crazyhorse088 I have filed a bug report using XPlane's bug report form (www.x-plane.com/x-plane-bug-report-form/). Considering user interface issues are usually not prioritized by Laminar, I am not holding my breath for this to be fixed anytime soon. Here's a video that I sent to Laminar demonstrating the issue: photos.app.goo.gl/VvzjdtoSGDVegcvi9
@@StudentPilot4Life My tech support coach found a fix for the problem and my FSB G1000 suite is working fine. I think he found an article on RealSimGear and applied it to my FlightSimBuilder suite. It had something to do with the XPlane Output/preferences/Miscellaneous.prf file. He changed some values in the code and also moved the monitors and centered them below the main monitor to move each screen down. He also clicked the check mark to turn back ON snap windows in settings. Not sure if I'm making much sense here, but bottom line the panels are working! Hopefully Laminar will fix the issue. Hello there. I do not have extra usb A type connector. Is it possible for you to measure the length of the cable the pedals comes with? I have a feeling it will be too short for my desk setup. Thanks if you could.
It’s about 6.5 ft.
Are you waiting out for the Charle pedals?? I am just getting into simming. Have purchased the MSFS 2020 a few days back when Steam had it on sale. My initial thought was to go somewhat budget friendly controller and had in mind on the Beach Turtle VelocityOn Flightstick since I can use all the controls in one device and not have to buy throttle and rudder. Then, I thought more into this and with the limited storage space I have. I will eventually upgrade to better controllers later. So, instead of having many controllers I will not be using and not have room to store them. I am going to get all Honeycomb. I have purchased the xpc yoke. The Bravo is on its way. For the rudder, I was going to get the Charle, but having second thoughts. My desk floor space will fit barely. The Charle is quite big dimension wise. I am looking at the Thrustmaster TPR now. The size reasonable for my case. It's tall but not really an issue. My question is. How is this rudder compare to the Charle. I know the charle isn't available world wide and one a few have them, but I am not convince if the Charle pedals is better then the TPR. Honestly, I would rather go with all Honeycomb lineup, but the space is holding me back. The TPR isn't aesthetic looking since my desk is also a work space.
@ducsue751 I am not waiting for the charlie pedals as I bought the Thrustmaster TPR pedals recently. I have linked the videos below. I had the (much) cheaper Logitech pedals to start with but I did not like that one and ended up upgrading. TPR has been around for quite some time and I have only heard good things about it. Hard to say how the Charlie pedals will compare, but if the TPR's cost is not a concern, hard to go wrong with it. I added the damper mod as well, and the combination is fantastic so far! I have a similar setup - my work desk is right next to the sim desk and I use some of the peripherals with both setups. But it's getting cluttered. I am going to separate them and keep both the setups distinct from each other. Want to avoid looking at the flight controls and getting distracted while trying to get some work done :) Here are the video links if that helps: TPR unboxing: ruclips.net/video/jfsAyYISgOE/видео.html Damper mod: ruclips.net/video/03mtr7YCVuE/видео.html
I just got the Thrustmaster TPR as well and really enjoying them. They are all metal, very sturdy and precise. I never had a set of rudder pedals before and was holding out for the Charlie as I already own the Alpha yoke and Bravo throttle quadrant. But after waiting two years I gave up and went with Thrustmaster TPR. Sorry Charlie, too late.
@@Combination12345 Nice! Enjoy the TPR pedals. They really enhance the flight experience.
Hopefully nicki has regained control of the company. From what i have read, Mike is not to be trusted.
Hard to say who is in control of the company at this point. Don’t see any names at the obvious places on the website.
It's a shame they burned the bridge with the entire flight simulator community. I have been waiting 2 years for a refund, former CEO was served in the lawsuit a year ago for 2.1 million dollars in San Diego. Even under new leadership, they haven't honored a single promise. Anyone who willingly trusts them, it's either a fool or to hasn't really looked into their past.

At that price, how come you didnt get a VIRPIL or WinWing ?
Most of the reviews I had come across were for the TPR, and almost every review was positive. I did come across some mentions of Virpil but not enough to sway my buying decision. WinWing looks interesting, I wasn’t actually aware of this brand until you mentioned it. I’ll have to look into their products more.
@@StudentPilot4Life I know a lot of sim enthusiasts that opt for these two brands, as the hardware is beyond amazing. Pricey, but you get your money's worth! Also on thel 'lower' budget there's VKB. PS: I'm not against Thrustmaster. TPR is great, but 1for the amount of money spent, you can get much more better.
Brilliant but the shipping to the UK cost more than the mount. So it's a no go :(
Ugh… international shipping is quite expensive. Hope you find something local that serves the same purpose!
If you still haven't got one yet, I'm in the UK and used flightsimwebshop. I only bought one for the honeycomb alpha and it was £35 including delivery
Try with SmartFly yoke
I am hearing good things about the new yoke on the block. Will definitely keep it on my radar, but I hope my Alpha lives for few years!
looks great, but a 599$ expensive rudder pedal should not need any mods in my opinion.
Totally… I wish the whole thing didn’t cost as much.
Wow, I wasn't aware of this addon for the TPR. Thanks for sharing.

Thx for this. What material are those 3d printed damper holders that are attached to the pedals? Are those parts durable?
They seem pretty sturdy and durable. I’ll see how they hold up after few months of usage. Not sure what the 3D printing material is… feels like solid plastic.
Just as a heads up...5:47 Looking at the 3 cables on the back, the one that goes to the top of the long bar...The little square box where the cable goes in is where the "Hall Sensor" is If you look at carefully you will see it from underneath, check occasionally for dust and stuff.
