AJ Foyt’s record breaking 4th Indianapolis 500 win in 1977 came at the wheel of his own car, the Coyote with turbocharged Ford-based V8 engine. This kit is a highly detailed model of that car in 1:43 scale, made in white metal by boutique UK model manufacturer, SMTS. Hmm, I think I might have to get hold of a Tamiya Lotus49B kit this year. It's the only F1 car I've actually touched in real life. 😁 I've still got an old 1/24 Porsche 911 GT1 kit to build too. They will probably be my 2 kits for the year.😊 Happy New Year!
Do it! Those old Tamiya kits are still great models. Cool that you've experienced the real thing :)
Nice video, enjoy your builds.
Thanks :)
Thanks for your cool content and happy new Year 2025 for you and your channel 🎉🏆😇 Greetings
Thanks, and same to you!
I liked the Honda and that Holden, I didn't know that they don't have it in Diecast form. The Ferrari 643 will look great when completed. Thanks Wixy500 Happy New Year. 👍
Cheers! I'm excited to see the 643 finished too!
Looking forward to seeing it.
Happy new year 🎊 i really enjoyed your videos These always keep the child inside me awake I love your content 😍 but I saw your thumbnails need some improvement if you improve them you can grab more attention I can make a FREE thumbnail for your next video and if you like it I can make more for you Looking forward to your response 😊😊
I picked up the Cale Yarborough '79 Olds kit last year and just started the kit about 2 months or so. It's a new company for sure, but the instructions are just horrible. Their customer service is great and sent me a replacement metal rear axle that was left out of the box. Someone could probably get the Goodyear script decals for the tires like that as well if they were missing. I glued the firewall and dash down before the roll cage like the instructions said and had to notch the right side of the dash and instrument panel about 1/8" to get the roll cage to fit. I sprayed the sprues first and painted myself into a CA glue corner right off the bat. The instructions are very confusing and it's best to dry-fit everything and the drop a few bits of CA glue down. I dry-fitted and glued the U-shaped engine compartment roll tubing and the shock towers first before tackling the roll cage. There were two locating pins inside the rear axle housing that I had to drill with a 1/16" bit to remove after gluing the halves together to let the metal rear axle pass through. You have really have to regard your first Salvinos kit as a learning kit. I haven't built a car kit in 30 years, so there was a steep curve on this one, but it's pretty rewarding once you get stuff figured out. From a video on their site, the forwardmost hole on the chassis is for the Olds kits, the second one is for the Charger/Roadrunner kits, the third is one is for the Monte Carlo kits, and the fourth one is TBD. Your vid helped me figure out the placement of the Panhard bar and the angled roll cage bar to the right of the driver's seat. For better or worse, Salvinos gives you the basics and puts the burden on the builder to get things dialed-in. I recently ordered the Benny Parsons' Olds kit as a do-over, so I am sticking with the Salvinos kits. There is just a learning curve for your first kit is all.
Yeah, I've read their customer service is good, thankfully I have not had to use it so far! Good luck with the Benny P build :)
This video helped me quite a bit. I ran into some of the same issues and I had lots of trouble with the directions for the rear assembly.
Glad it helped! There is also a 'Part 2' that covers the body and some other stuff :)
Where did you find the Brembo decals for the brake calipers? Please let me know. Thanks.
We sourced a full after-market decal set from Belgium at this website, but I think we got the last one: www.bestbalsakits.com/
At the end of the day, is it really worthwhile to try and strip the chrome if this is the effort and risk required? I don't know what the alternative would be - either leave it as it is or try something else. I have been looking at your build diary for the Petty 1979 Oldsmobile and it has been helpful. As you implied, there had been a whole lot of "hoopla" surrounding these kits a couple of years ago and I bought mine in 2022 and only just starting it now. It is a disappointment that a licensed model should be so inaccurate in most areas that the end result should only be seen as a representation. Thanks.
Yep, like anything, it's up to the individual to make that call of risk V reward (only Salvinos kits need the acid treatment, other kits can easily be de-chromed with household bathroom or oven cleaner). Glad you found the Petty videos helpful :)
I bought the RB18, RB19 and a Ferrari and Mercedes at Target for $6 each. They were the non case version but had the driver figure in it. (If you’re wondering, they’re in the toys section by the hot wheels, not online have to check in person) I always wondered if there was a difference between the ones I buy there and the ones on the F1 store for $40. Glad I could get them for such a steal. Currently waiting for a 1:18 special livery I ordered for Christmas 😁
I was surprised to see the Burago F1 diecast at my local Walmart earlier this summer. Its hard to get them in the US compared to NASCAR diecast cars. I got a RedBull 1/24 and a McLaren 1/43 car. I know the quality isn't that great, but I can't complain.
I've not yet seen the 1/24 version here in Australia, but it's good there is choice beyond just 1/43 as there is a LOT of diecast product and plastic kits in that scale.
Very impressive having Metal Rods. Looking forward to seeing the end result. Thanks Wixy500 😊
I'm excited to see it done too! All the suspension arms, driveshafts, uprights/hubs, wheel rims and internal chassis bulkheads (for assembly and strength) are in metal, so it's turning into a very heavy model.
❤️
I'm excited.
Looking good, love the attention to detail.
In America they put no helmet f1 cars in the case at Walmart. At Target the cardboard box gets f1 car with a helmet. That’s interesting I wonder why in other countries they do the opposite.
Yeah, I don't know. There must be a reason, but probably only known to the Bburago Marketing Department? lol. Cheers
Me as a car and F1 enthusiast also playing many racing games... I will stick to Bburago F1 cars, cause they are priced very well and the quality is getting yearly better 😄 For real 1:43 cars I have IXO, Altaya, Solido... 🫡 Keep up the good work Wixy and happy upcoming Xmas 🍾🎆
Yes, Bburago is offering increasingly good value. Thanks and all the best to you too!
I like both Cars and I was impressed about the Helmet in both cars, very realistic looking in a Miniature way. Nice one Wixy500 thank you I really enjoyed this viewing 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks Wixy500
If Bburago started making 1:18 and sold them for the same ratio price that they sell their 1:43 it would be a game changer
gay hobby
Thanks for watching 😘
Do you need warm water?
Must you use warm water? No. But warmed water can help speed up the release of the decal from the backing paper, plus make the decal more flexible.
Very good 👍😊 🍕😎🆒
Dimensions????
They are 1:43 scale, so about 13-14cm long.
I look at some of my old builds and wonder I how did such a good job . Getting older with shaky hands and poor eyesight kit building is beyond me now
Sad to hear that, but I guess it's inevitable for all of us at some point :( We have memories in the display cabinet :)
You did an excellent job of the FW07! Too bad the decals "yellowed" on you. I wonder if a clear coat (Tamiya TS-13?) might have prevented that. Probably not. But, Man, your skills were pretty good even when you built this one back then!
Thank you. I think from memory the bodywork on this model did get a very light coat of TS13, but maybe it wasn't heavy enough to seal in the decals?? It could be fixed with a set of aftermarket decals, but I have too many kits in the stash to get done first! lol
I now have two of these kits (not SVG's car but Ryan Blaney's #12 Ford and Kyle Larson's #5 Chevy). They look excellent in the box - streets ahead of the older Revell NASCAR kits, I think. At roughly A$90 each (that's what I paid) they are a bit pricey, but the quality seems to be there to justify it.
I'm looking forward to building it this one. Hopefully it goes together better than the Salvinos JR Oldsmobile (I've build 2 - vids are on the channel) which has a number of issues. Yes, they are a bit pricey, but that's all there is for modern NASCAR. Good luck with your builds!
To those who might not know Tamiya discontinued all their 1/20F1 models!
Really? I have not heard that. I know it has been a while since there was a totally new release, but I have not heard them announce the range has been discontinued.
The plastic front wing is from a Monogram 1/24 STP Granatelli Indycar
Yeah, someone else mentioned that too. Bizarre how it's got mixed up into this kit at some stage
Ford developed the “Twin Cam” ( normally aspirated ) engine based on the production 260 V8, back in about 1962/63 for the 1964 season, later on, it was turbocharged ( for the 1969 Indycar season ) when Ford decided to end development $ support $ for this engine, A.J. Foyt bought the rights to the engine. ( design, drawings and rights ) so the cam covers should say “ F O Y T”
Unfortunately the casting (and the instructions) have F O R D :(
Those type of drill bits break off quite often ( I have broken off several - most imbedded in the model ) these drills don’t have much flexibility and to me are quite brittle.
Exactly what I've found. I've killed two of them, and one of the bits is permanently embedded in the starter tube hole of the Pat Flaherty/Zinc roadtser! lol
Great build, it looks fantastic…..especially considering the poor quality of the kit. “Silk Purse from a Sow’s Ear”….as they say.
I have the Ligier JS-11 in the same shape…. First built in about 1981, decals all yellowed and much of the chrome has actually appeared to “corrode” and degrade. I bought another kit back in about 1996, but have not built the second one ( my first one was Jacque Laffite….my second one will probably be Patrick DePallier. ) you should “salvage” the “old junker” that you have. Great idea on the Al Unser Longhorn version.
I've also built the Ligier and yeah, the decals are now yellow and crispy (I never used clear coat back then) but the chrome on mine isn't too bad. The more I think about the Unser Longhorne, the more I want to have a crack at it...
@ it looks like the toughest part would be the 1/20 scale wheel rims. From the limited reference photos I have seen of the Longhorn, I believe that they are “3-spoke” DyMag-style wheels - they look identical to the wheels on the 1980 Chaparral 2K “Yellow Submarine”. Tires would also be Indy-spec so I suppose if someone had 1/20 scale Chaparral 2K wheels and tires then that would go a long way to being accurate. The Indy style single turbo, exhaust headers, waste gate & pop-off valve, would be a challenge also. All the references I have show the Longhorn in “fully disassembled” state. Getting photos of the actual Longhorn car ( with the engine cover off )…..that might end up being a few hours ( or a few days ) in the IMS museum photo center piling over photos.
@@bradwolfgang1037 I was thinking 3D printing for wheels/tyres and doing it as a 'closed body' so only have to worry about the exposed plumbing etc for the engine. But it's a bit of a pipe dream atm...
Sweet video enjoyed, unfortunately decals over time, unless kept in the dark 24/7 which well we can't see them, nice builds nice work, sorry to hear about you're modelling buddy 😢 condolences to there family, Cheers 🍻KC 🇦🇺🏔🪃🦘🤝🇦🇺🦘🍻
Cheers, and thanks.
@wixy500 you're welcome anytime 😊 ☺️ 🙏🇦🇺🍻
I have a full size race car from the 80'sm it's in the same condition as your Model in the box, I.e. it's not aged well, paint flaking off and in pieces. So, your model is quite accurate. Use the model in a diorama of a modern restoration shop, restoring an 80's F1 car.
That's actually a really good idea! But not sure when I'd ever get around to that sort of project lol
Good stuff. Thanks for the tips.
No problem 👍
I believe Indycals has decals for many of these older kits. Cool stuff.
After all of this time, those are in pretty good shape. I have a couple of them in the stash, and I am hoping that SpotModel will re-stock the aftermarket decals at some point. I was lucky enough to see the FW-07 at Watkins Glen in '79 and the FW-07B in 1980. Great memories. Condolences on the loss of your mate.
That would have been awesome to see and hear those cars at The Glen! Fingers crossed for re-stock and re-issues. Cheers.
@@timcarson8146 Indycals has decals for these also, if you don’t want to wait! I have a sheet myself. I like their decals, although you have to remember they aren’t die cut.
Excellent!! I love seeing peoples old builds. And I’d love to get a second FW07 to build Al Unser’s Longhorn. Unsuccessful though it was. I think the FW07 looked good on the Speedway.
Yep, same - there are several cars this model could be used as a base for. Even the 1980 Phoenix was a similar shape.
@ oh yeah. I forgot about the Phoenix. Definitely another FW07 knockoff. Would be very cool to do some of those obscure Indy builds using this kit. I shall have to try to track a couple more of these down.
@@kyledehartsscaleworks Good luck with the tracking down. How can we convince Tamiya to re-issue?? lol
@@wixy500 😂 I shall write a strongly worded letter!! More F1 re-releases. They’ll be sure to ignore it!
Good attempt for your first go, it's got good detail for a 1980's Model. Everything you buy now has got very little instruction Manuals, and some products don't have any instructions at all. It would be nice to see your other car's. Nice one Wixy 500, thanks for sharing. 👍
I'll see what I can do in the coming months about vids of some of the other old models.
@wixy500 It sounds good, many thanks 👍
Im usually a snob when it comes to collecting these going to Looksmart or BBR, but I gotta say Bburago is doing a great job on these cars for the price. So nice in fact I ordered the new 2024 Leclerc ferrari! Not ashamed to have it in my collection.

Hahaha, same. These latest Bburago's make the Looksmart etc seem even more overly expensive for the detail you get.
Great job with the build Wixy!!! Also wanted to inform you that Bburago released the F1 Vegas cars in 1/43 for Redbull and Ferrari in Europa. I ordered my already at CK Modelcars in Germany 🛞 Many greetings from EU
Thank you! And thanks for the heads-up on the new Bburagos. I'll be keeping a watch for them, but here in Australia it feels like we are typically a few months behind the rest of the world lol. Cheers.
Does this work on chrome plated metal?
No.
what about the scale? i have 2022 McLaren from bburago and i can't compare it with this gen cars from other companies, but it feels very oversized in compare with 2019-21 gen cars from others and with older age cars.
I haven't measured these models to calculate how close to scale, but keep in mind this current generation of Formula One has the largest cars in history, so they will always be bigger than previous years.
This is awesome!! I’ve never built one of the kits from this manufacturer but it reminds me of a couple of the old garage cast Indycars I do have. Pretty rough stuff. I’d say it’s normal for the lower quality kits I have. But I have a few really nicely cast examples too. I think you pink looks close enough for Zink pink. On my 1/25 1956 Kurtis I just used straight Tamiya titanium gold and I think it looks about right from the real cars I’ve seen here in the museum. Beautiful work getting through this one. What a glorious collection of Indy cars you have too!! So glad that I was introduced to your channel.
Awesome work, looks like a challenging kit. Iconic car from the era. Thanks for sharing your hard work and tricks and tips you learned along the way.
Cool
Well I’ve seen some very BAD resin kits i my time but that kit is I must say is another level. But you did make an excellent job of it. Well done 👍
Thanks. It looks ok from a foot or two away lol. Cheers.
