Napkin Rings
DESCRIPTION:
This napkin ring was given to my aunt's father who was a 'plank owner' aboard the USS Shangri-La (CV-38). When I first saw this napkin ring I immediately wanted to turn one. Not only do I appreciate being able to recreate a part of history... I really like the design.
This is a case where form follows function. I've spent my share of time at sea and can appreciate the functionality of the flat section; however, the design aspect of it is what sets these rings off from traditional round napkin rings.

Wood: 8/4 Walnut
Mineral Oil: amzn.to/2m6l3V0
Dri-Cote (Forstner Bit Lubricant): amzn.to/2l6lT07

Woodturning Handles | An Alternative Approach
Просмотров 35 тыс.8 лет назад
DESCRIPTION: A great way to save a few dollars on your next turning tool purchase is to buy your tools un-handled and make your own. I came up with a design that works really well. It includes set screws which allow you to remove the tool from the handle if needed. PARTS: Ferrule: I use 1" copper pipe (which is the inside diameter) for all of my turning tools. The only exception is my Spindle R...
Very interesting how you turned this snowman. You did a great job explaining step by step on how to make them. Give me a couple tries and I think I can turn one. One problem. Where do. You get 2” maple and walnut. I have 1” but no 2”. Thank you very much for doing a great job
Good job, Clear, Concise, Complete! But the thread size is a 5/15-18, not fine thd. 5/16-24, as you would not want to use a fine thread in wood.
I am just starting to use a lathe. For small craft projects like the snowmen which is better...dry or wet wood? I hear wet for bowls to get them to a rough and oversized shape, then let them dry in a bag for a long time before finishing them. Same for small crafts like the snowmen?
Excellent demonstration. Thank you
I love this little guy. I’m making nine of them. I have one question: what knot did you use to tie the ribbon into a scarf? It looks like maybe a Square Knot, but I can’t be sure. I’ve tried several of my own, but they don’t look as good as yours.
Cute snowmen. What did you call that 2 part putty?
For the benefit of us complete beginners, can you tell us what number grit you sand to, when do you apply the Sanding Sealant (if at all), and what did you use to finish the piece, wax, lacquer, polish, etc? Good video, by the way. Thanks for making it 🙂
How do you use your center on the rectangular hole for the skew?
Hod did you keep the live center in the middle of the rectangular mortise?
Very nice video. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
I like your videos, what happened to you?
I appreciate it. I moved for work and I unfortunately no longer have a shop.
Very cool. I'll give it a try.
Great idea for the tools with flat tangs. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
excellent video sir . thankyou
Your videos are very well done. You do an excellent job of talking through the project steps, but still keep it interesting.
Thanks!
Can you tell me the tools you use for the turning other than the skew chisel? What brand turning tools do you prefer? Thanks very much-
If you click on the video description it provides a list of everything used. In terms of turning tool brands, I really don't have a preference... but I mostly have Thompson Lathe Tools. A big reason I use Thompson is because they come without handles. I prefer my own handles... they just feel better to me. I did a video on making your own handles. I hope this helps.
Exactly what I was looking for, thank you for sharing! Much simpler than what I was thinking about doing.
Best snowman video out there . Thanks.🙌
Thanks for the comment!
I like snowman a lot. This one is so cute!!
Thank you!

Merecídisimo like maestro!
Excellent class. A lot of work in that snowman! Thank you!
What is the wax you use??
Shellawax Liquid Friction Polish there is a link in the video description. Let me know if you have trouble finding it.
I can't find the link
@@terryklimer5825 If you click on the description under the video it should reveal information I posted about the video including links to the items I used. You can also go here: www.amazon.com/Shellawax-Liquid-Friction-Polish-8-45/dp/B001FX4EFI/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1479426615&sr=8-1&keywords=Shellawax+Liquid+Friction+Polish&linkCode=sl1&tag=sonoranwoodsh-20&linkId=e647025e54c214c6d12414cdc22e99ee
Great video, and it convinced me to go ahead and make a few snowmen. Thanks!
Great ornament, why did you stop posting? Why subscribe, if your not posting?
I have two kids that take up any spare time I have. I get a lot of requests to start posting again and I’ve been trying to figure out how to make that happen… we’ll see.
1/4" or M6 set screws are plenty strong enough-
This is great I'm finally getting around to making this hope it turns out as good as yours. Also I really love your content wish you would make more videos!
I appreciate your detailed instructions. The snowman will become a part of our Christmas gift decorations. thank you.
Really like your videos thanks for sharing
Great step by step detail and I like the Miliputty idea. Exellent video!
Perfeito, adorei o boneco de neve, ótimo trabalho 🫡✌️🇧🇷
Obrigado pelo comentário 👍
Fantastic, thanks
Thanks for sharing your handle design and set screw addition. I'll be making some of these.
I just found your channel. Love these snowmen. Since I am not a woodworker and cannot make these for myself, do you sell them? Do you have a website where I can purchase them?
Hi Lisa. I do not make these to sell. I created the video for other woodturners to make.
@@segantiwoodworking Thank you for your quick reply. If you ever do decide to sell, Esty would be a great website to market from. These are adorable. I love how you make the eyes, mouth and buttons. Very unique. Nobody else does that. Love, love, love them.
Excellent, je vais en faire un pour les prochaines fêtes de fin d'année.....
Merci beaucoup!
Great job.
Thank you!
Where Health And Safety Are Paramount!
Great video! Thanks!
One of the best videos I've seen for a novice turner. Simple. Filmed perfectly for seeing the tool, flute, cut, measuring etc. Thank you! I will definitely look at more of your videos.
This is an older video but excellent. I am new to turning and plan to use your technique. I read through the other comments, but did not see anyone address my question, so here I go. You show how you mount the handle in the lathe for a round shank. How do you mount it for the flat shanks? I’m guessing the live center on the tail stock won’t work for the flat shanks.
Beautiful job. I'm going to try some. The only thing I don't like was the stain. I work with black walnut a lot and i don't ever use stain, but they still look great. Good job!
Love your few videos. You satisfy my OCD in how you measure and make everything precise. Wish you would have put out more videos. Great job!
Fantastic detailed video !
Bellissimo, stupendo, sono rimasto meravigliato da tutta la lavorazione, poi il risultato finale è spettacolare.👏👏👏👏👍👍 Che legno hai usato?
I’ve enjoyed your videos very informative any plans to make more
I really appreciate this video. I was trying to use a drill press post-lathe to get my hole for the candle. This is so much more elegant. Many thanks, wood friend.
Very nice!👍🏻
Very cool wee piece. 👌👌👌👌
