AUTHOR CHAT with Mikki Brammer - The Collected Regrets of Clover
I just finished reading Interesting Facts and I'm sad to say I've come to the end of the book already. I liked Enid. In reality I sometimes feel that too many people let introspection and the constant monitoring of their various neuroses take over their lives. But she's an interesting character, so never mind that. I really don't know much about girls, or women, but I'll bet a lot of them have that peculiar characteristic where they say exactly the opposite of what they're thinking, so that was interesting but also kind of troubling, like... is there a foundation under this house? I'm going to go request Everyone in this room now.
@@theLeftHandedDog what did you think of Emily’s author chat discussing all the details/themes?
reading this book rn
@@nandini4755 definitely finish before watching the recording because we always discuss spoilers. You may find other author chats from books you’ve e already read.
@lbtheloverofbooks yea sure
@@lbtheloverofbooks hey, just wanted to ask, is there any love angle in the book?
@@nandini4755 it’s considered historical fiction not romance.
Just finished the book and loved it, so I found and listened to this interview as a way to extend the experience, and this extended conversation was so rich, about the meaning and emotion of the book, but also craft. As a writer myself, I was fascinated to hear how the book evolved -- that it started out as only Joe chapters then Norma's voice introduced itself, that the prologue was added at end, that Amanda knew the beginning & end and discovered middle, and that she outlined but outline changed, plus added hooks at end of chapters to lead from one character back to another, etc. As I write, I also noticed how many twists and surprises there were in the book, even though we know from the beginning that Norma is Ruthie, and that she reconnects with Joe and her original family. For instance -- Ben spying Ruthie at the demo, Joe's accident stepping in front of the truck. Those were concrete reminders to throw twists into my own work. This interview was stellar. Both LB's questions and Amanda's answers were so substantive and smart and satisfying. Thank you both so much for this!
@@jancarr9720 I will definitely pass this on to Amanda. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and praise. I love getting inside author’s heads/process and am happy you enjoyed it as well. Hope you find more from books you’ve read or can join us love coming up.
Loved this book and discussion so much! ❤📚
This needs to be a series on tv!!!
@@angelapease8516 I hope it comes to fruition because it would make for great TV!
Sally reminds me of Amelia Badelia character
@@angelapease8516 I hadn’t thought of that.
I think it’s neat that the readers are the only ones that know the whole truth of all characters’ experiences.
@@angelapease8516 YES!
I got the audio version with the letter from the Joliet Illinois library! The cover is also neither of the two shown here.

Loved this book and really enjoyed this Zoom with the author!
I loved every second!!!
I find these conversations so enriching. What a powerful personal story (and it's fascinating to hear someone who finds *America* a safe place!). And it's so interesting to hear about how he has to "learn" the characters...again, as though they exist apart from himself. I find hearing the writer's approach so intriguing. Thanks for arranging these!
@@Toby_S0801 I totally agree! I always think about the book longer because of the author’s added perspective. Ty!
Great chat and it was really interesting to include interviews with the brilliant narrators of this incredible book. I would highly recommend the audible version.

Chris was a wonderful guest, and you did an excellent job of interviewing him! It was so interesting to hear the back stories of how he used traumas in his early life to mold him into a writer. I hope to read his earlier books now too. Thank you for hosting him‼️

Ty so much!!! ♥️♥️♥️
According to my independent research, several of the statements in the introductory summary are incorrect. Specifically, I have found evidence that Margaret Fuller did not write the reviews in "The Dial" signed "F." These were, as I believe, written by Mathew Franklin Whittier, younger brother of Quaker poet John Greenleaf Whittier. He was signing, as he had done before, with his middle initial. Similarly, the reviews, essays and reports signed with a single asterisk or "star," in the 1844-46 New York "Tribune," were also, as I believe, written by Mathew Franklin Whittier. He had used that pseudonym extensively since 1829, continuing to write with it long after Fuller's death in 1850, until at least 1873--all of this material being identical in style and philosophy. If my theory is correct--and I have some very strong evidence to support it--then Fuller plagiarized two of Mathew's pieces from "The Dial," and nine of his pieces from the "Tribune," in her 1846 book, "Papers on Literature and Art." I can prove absolutely that Fuller could not have written two of the "star"-signed pieces in the "Tribune," because in one instance the writer gives his or her birthday as being in the middle of "snow-laden winter" (Fuller was born May 23); and in the second instance, the writer mentions having attended a concert in Boston at a time when Fuller was not in Boston.
Ooh, now I need to read the book again, I'd forgotten so much about it from when I read it when it was first released
