Stereo Video Update + More
Просмотров 1456 лет назад
Hey everyone, here is my stereo improvement video. The process is the same as my other video, I just changed how it was framed. So if you want to know how to install the stereo go here: ruclips.net/video/GoNZj19Hnh8/видео.html If you want it to look good, stay here. Seek out your local medal worker and have a frame designed. It will look better and be less work for you to do. I also have includ...
Honda Goldwing GL1200 Aspencade Stereo Install 2015 Update 7-6-15
Просмотров 2 тыс.9 лет назад
Here is an update to the ghetto stereo fix. As you will see, I had to go back to my original plan of using a block of wood. Although it is not in the video, I did add Bondo over the top of the fiberglass to give it a smoother look.
Honda Goldwing GL1200 Aspencade Stereo Install 2015

This is a replacement with an aftermarket marine stereo. You cannot wire into existing wiring. This project took 12 to 15 hours to complete. Most of that time was spent trying to figure out how to take the bike apart. Now that I know how to do that, it should be much faster in the future if I want to change something.
Honda Goldwing GL1200a Aspencade Alternator Conversion 2014
Просмотров 69 тыс.10 лет назад
WATCH ENTIRE VIDEO BEFORE YOU DISASSEMBLE YOUR BIKE. This video takes you through the steps to add an alternator to your Gl1200a. There are 2 kits to buy; basic & full. There is a cost savings to buying the basic kit, but you have to wait awhile to get the missing parts that come with the full kit. Total Cost for me on this job was right around $500. If you subtract the grinder (I purchased) an...
Where did you buy the kit?
I have no clue. That was a lot of years ago. I think it was called "Don's Poor Boy Kit," but I could be way off.
This is perfect for me, been looking at doing a radio replacement on my '86 'Cade, I do have one question for the sake of having all the parts on my bike, what is the actual name for the piece you removed at 8:42? I need to find one for the left side but can't because I don't know the name of it to even search for it
As far as I can tell it's called a blind. www.cmsnl.com/honda-gl1200a-goldwing-aspencade-1986-g_model50138/partslist/0300.html I hope that helps.
Love the video, not sure if I just missed it but can you tell me what the thread pitch is on that crankshaft pulley bolt? Im thinking of using grade 8 allthread for mine but dont know if it should be 1.75coarse or 1.50fine thread. Thanks!
Thank you for your like and great question. Sadly I don't have an answer for you. It was so long ago and I don't think I kept any information that came with the kit.
I'm so happy my 94 aspencade has a alt and not a stater
I actually purchased a '94 last year. I love my 1500 Aspencade.
The only thing I don't like about it is I have a 31 inch inseam and it weighs 938 lb with a full tank and that's a lot of weight to catch when you're 57
Great info. Thanks for sharing
Thank you.
So for an ‘81 GL1000 naked bike this should only take 3 or 4 hours?
In theory. Part of the reason it took me so long was due to: poor directions to go off of. Also I had never dismantled that part of the bike before, and setting up the camera for instructions to help others understand how to do it and do it faster.
@@Quarteg 10 4 thanks for the video
@@williamlattin you are most welcome. I hope it helps.
I SALUTE YOU SIR...Great "REAL" Video. Before you do any work, REMOVE the FRONT TIRE & FENDER OFF before starting this Alternator Conversion. With them out of your way it makes it so much easier and less frustrating about worrying about scratching your paint. They take up so much room and with them out of your way you can get tools in there better and that RADIATOR is so much easier to handle....room for extra hands like in a HELPER...JUST SAYIN' Nice description of what to do and what not to do. A REAL example and not some edited version with all the fumble and hard things to be done left on the editing floor. EVEN with the entire KIT it goes just about like this...EXPECT to have to make a few modifications to get things to line up and FIT...just like here it is a ROYAL PAIN in the TUUSH...lol I SALUTE YOU SIR...Great "REAL" Video and nice JOB.
Thank you for the compliments. I'm glad I was able to help.
the conversion process looks almost as big of a pita as pulling the engine and installing a new stator...
Some bikes have the stator fail three or four times. This way that is no longer an option and so you won't have to worry about it all the time. Naturally it will happen when you're on top of a mountain 1000 miles from home.. Great video!
If in doubt always change the belts. Easiest way to destroy a goldwing motor. Better safe than sorry. That said thanks. This video is fantastic.
How did u break loose the bottom pulley bolt
impact wrench. only fvkin way..smh..
Most important part. Where the pulley goes and where the belt is you left out. Spent more time on cleaning.
You are 100% correct. It is always best to clean while you have things apart.
A swap to a slimline/low-profile fan would be a better idea, since you have the radiator out. And maybe look into an oil cooler installation.
Should have just bought her a pair of hearing aids. It would have been less trouble.
Try liquid nail around there
Bonus points for the belly video
I got so much flack for that. LOL I don't think anyone was trying to be hurtful but I did make sure to have a shirt on for the parts of other videos that I would be in and then I would take off my shirt when the camera wasn't rolling. :-) I should have entered the temp that day. I think it was in the mid 90's or higher in the garage. Oh the memories. he he he
"Annoying as Hell" ya you are
Oh... I did not need to see you shirtless
7/32 & 5/13? You idiot... they’re METRIC!
You need some wire wheels for your drill motor.
Thanks for the excellent instructions, greetings from Germany, I'm building a radio.
Absolutely amazing well done video. Thank you for all your work to help out your fellow riders around the world.
Does anybody know where to buy the kit?
Are you selling the original radio cassette?
"I am not that guy" I loved that quote. I am also "Not that guy" you are not alone. Great video Side note: you might want to look into LEDs bulbs. I changed out almost all my bulbs to LEDs, they use a lot less amps, less load on the system, which will save your stator, or Alt. and the R/R. l also upgraded to a MOSFET R/R
Thank you. I did eventually change out the stereo and halfway through the video you can find where I added some LED fog lights and strips. ruclips.net/video/z4B3cdX8o2s/видео.html Hope you enjoy!
Yeah the problem with the 94 aspencade is it came with a 30 amp alternator which isn't enough to keep it charged on short trips and if you use your reverse you just killed your battery and it's not going to start so by putting the larger 90 AMP in you've got that power you also have to upgrade your fuses
buy a little trailer, put a little gas engine on it going to a whatever alternator u want. hitch up the little trailer with gas motor/generator on it. hook up hot wire to bikes battery/trailer battery, start little engine to get alternator going to charge battery and OFF U GO!!!! ;)
goddamn ten hours hell i changed mine out took about an hr i have the same bike well mine is silver
Did you use pressure treated lumber? Can`t imagine using lumber on my wing!!!
I did use pressure treated wood initially. The wood was just a bad idea. I had problem after problem with it so I stop using it. Here check out this video so you can see what I used instead. ruclips.net/video/z4B3cdX8o2s/видео.html
Ohh yeah, its pretty nice Bucherry ,people should be panished for profanation like this !
Nice video! I thought I wanted to do this but it's too much cutting. I'm scared I might mess up.So,I guess I'm gonna have to pull the motor and reinstall a new stator, smh!
You look great blonde John-hope you have kept it up? Don't agree with Facebook-the bear and moustache are great-blonde or not, so don't shave!
you should do a turbo conversion.
This is a stupid question but do you still have the factory radio I'm looking for 1 all I use is fm/am lol
Not a stupid question and yes I do have it in a box in my garage somewhere. I'm a bit of a hoarder. I figured if anyone wanted to restore the bike, they would have the original parts. :-)
Quarteg they want a ridiculous price for a used one it's crazy lol I like my hand controls and I use a bluetooth fm transmitter so I guess the hunt is still on thanks lol
If you have Facebook, PM me at John Chroninger and we can talk more there if you're interested.
@@Quarteg there us a place that refurbishes those old ones . From what I'm told mist are a lil over 100 bucks. I have to find the comments now . I will have one that needs fixed when I switch mine out
Hi , How much was the kit from poor boy? The basic kit? You have the link?
Hello I need the link to buy the kit only also. Can you tell me thanks
Thanks very much. If you have a Facebook page would like to chat. Thanks
facebook.com/john.chroninger
Do you have a Facebook page?
Thanks Are you saying that you didn't use a marine stereo with the new one. I live here in Canada by Niagara falls Thanks again
I did not use a marine stereo this time. If you have the money to spend, I recommend sticking the money into a really good marine stereo. (Stay away from Pyle) I bought this one for like $7 or less and I figured it's not a huge loss if it dies. I can just go and get another one. :-)
Please with new video Make models and watts for the new stereo and speakers Thanks
Could you please list make and models and watts of the stereo and speakers. I love the look of the diamond plate , smart move looks great. I am needing to do my stereo and add speakers to the back. I am also doing some led ground lights. Thanks and look forward to you reply.
I don't recall off hand which wattage was used for either. In fact I think the speakers are just house speakers from someones home stereo. The original stereo had a 300 watt stereo with 300 watt speakers. Although the speakers kept getting blown out, the stock front speakers remained just fine. I wouldn't go over 300 watts. I just don't see a need to, plus there is always the fear of blowing out the stock speakers. Hope that helps a tiny bit. I wish I had more info for you. I just took the bike out last weekend and found that my stereo keeps cutting in and out (I think I got it wet when I washed the bike even though I covered it with a towel.) so I had to resort to using my phone and my bluetooth in my helmet for music. When I get a new stereo (or get this one fixed) I will update on here. Thanks.
Now can you get the Beard to match. Now that's a challenge.
Toyed with it, but then I kind of liked the look of the contrast. So today I put a poll on Facebook and it seems almost everyone wants me to shave. LOL
where can the kit be bought
Didn't you also do a single carb conversion too?
You can use a buffing wheel on a bench grinder. Light pressure, make it shine like new.
Check out my other video on stereo installation, but here is my newest video on making my bike look pretty with speakers and trunk as well as a run of LED lights to make my bike stand out at night. ruclips.net/video/z4B3cdX8o2s/видео.html

did you saw the fuse for the air compressor? mine is not working and i am looking for his fuse and i dont see it anywhere? thanks for your help.Gervais
I have no clue where the fuse for the air compressor is. As it never went out on me, I never needed to look it up. Sorry.
hi,i need a pulley for the crank, where did you baught it? i am an handyman so i will fit an alternator BUT i need that pulley. can you help me please? i have an 84 ,Aspencade. thanks very much Gervais
Unfortunately I bought everything from the Poorboy Kit so I can't even give you the right size of the pulley. I would look up Don Poorboy Kit on Google and see if he can get you the dimensions. From there I would think you could go to any automotive store and buy one. Hope that helps.
Hello I need the pulley also. Can you tell me were I can order it.I have a 86 Goldwing 1200 aspencade. Thanks
wow,,,,,,,dont know where to start,,,,, but Im sorry to say,,, and Im happy you like what you do,, but your work looks terrible and I think your work is extremely sloppy, and amateurish, and I dont think you should be calling your vids tutorials, sorry brother
Thanks for the input. :-) It's funny you sent this. Just 2 days prior, I started working on another video to post of things I've changed on the bike, and should have the final product in the next few days or so. I hope you like that one better. Thanks for at least taking the time to watch. P.S. This video is truly crap and I think you might like my new one. LOL
absolutely,,, lol, glad you have thick skin,, I always like input on my stuff, all that aside, arent those goldwings outstanding???
I love my Goldwing immensely, and I'm hoping that the changes I made will be liked by many people. That said, two days after I shot my first video (last week), my speedo and tripometer stopped registering (all I see are zeros). So now I have to figure out how to fix that. Hopefully it's something simple...
Why not just tap into the front speakers and run wires to the rear.
I wanted surround sound. :-)
here is some advise,,,,,, PUT A SHIRT ON
ROFL. The rest of my videos will have a shirt on in them. I was dripping so much sweat that I just couldn't take it any more. :-)
Where did you order the kit to convert to an alternator?
Hope this helps. gl1200goldwings.com/techcenter/article1003.htm
