Inky Lake Landscapes Real Time Painting
Hi! For the Higgins Ink Artist Team I made a one minute time-lapse instagram reel of a 20 mins painting session. I thought you might also like to see it in actual time.
The dye based inks have a longer drying time than watercolor so I did cut it down to nine minutes. Sorry about the video orientation, uploading here was an after thought.
I hope you enjoy it!

Swatching Old Town Toronto Handmade Watercolors

Hi! I received the nicest creative care package from Eileen at Old Town Toronto Handmade Watercolors. They are such a delight- I received a mix of muted and bright colors that I would most likely never had chosen on my own (I tend to choose the same colors over and over)- and I absolutely love them! Thank you OttO for nudging me outside of my color comfort zone. I hope you enjoy the video as mu...
Visiting a Friend's Clay Studio

Hello! I have a potter friend who was so kind to make ceramic paint palettes for a series of watercolor classes I deliver. She invited me to be a part of the production process. I was able to visit and unload the kiln after their initial bisque firing along with other works and again following the glaze firing. I thought you might enjoy a behind the scenes peek into her studio as well. I hope y...

Hi! Welcome back. My old standby palette is looking pretty rough, empty pans, and rusted gaps. It definitely needs a refresh and I'm finally getting around to swatching and planning with new tubes bought in the new year. Here's the last batch of tubes that aren't represented in the currently line up. Giving them a swatch here before I start planning the lay out. *CORRECTION: Transparent Yellow ...

Hello again and welcome! For a long time it seemed all I painted were moons… so when I saw this Moons and Moods palette I was as intrigued as I am by the moon herself! This is another unique handcrafted palette full of unique personality, depth, and very enchanting. I love how it is both colorful and muted. It is developed by illustrator Tijana Lukovics who’s work I adore. I hope you enjoy seei...
Art To Basic Lady of the Irises Palette I

Hello again and welcome! I shall never want for pink again with this ‘Lady of the Irises’ palette from Art To Basic. They look like a roll of my favorite candies. They truly are a treat! I probably would not have ever bought them separately, but curated into this palette makes them irresistible. There is luminosity, subtle shimmer, and cold sparkle. This is another woman owned business committe...

@@equiles9159 thank you so much!
awesome , i would like to try and make my own.
@@equiles9159 if you ever have the opportunity I definitely recommend it! 🙂
nice!
My goodness! Thank you so much. 😊
awww they are beautiful!! do they use honey as binder?
Hi! Thank you. I’m not entirely sure about the honey. I know they state being as natural and responsible as possible. ❤
@@context_curated ah ok! thank you 😊
@@ultramarine_finest I don’t see it stated on the website, but maybe somewhere along the way it has been mentioned in social media? 🤷♀️ Do you prefer honey or not honey binder?
@@context_curated i dont use it during summer time because our climate is too humid...but once the indoor heating starts i looove honey paints so much more 😍specially during snowy days and it's so dry, honey binder paints just feels sooo much better :p
beautiful colors
They genuinely are! Have you used them?
@@context_curated ,no i never have i i have .
This so sweet!
Hello 👋🏼. I believe Transparent Yellow is PY150, not PY216.
Thank you for picking that up!
@@context_curated 🙂
Corrected in the description! ; )
@@context_curated Thanks and sorry to put you through that trouble.
these are lovely colours!
@@eileenreillyarts1229 thank you so much. I did a color wheel and was surprised at all the variations. Will post that eventually. They really match up with the weather!
@@context_curated very true! Stay safe
Hi may i know what paper that is?
@@nhiam6021 of course! This is Bee Inspired paper. I think it’s a division on Bee papers. This came from Walmart in the USA.
*it’s marketed as a watercolor paper.
@@context_curated thank you! Do you know if it is cold pressed or hot pressed?
@@nhiam6021 you know, I don’t think it actually says. It’s very ‘mechanically made’ texture. The wrong side is very smooth and the front has a very obvious pattern. It is definitely not cotton paper. Will try to link below:

@@nhiam6021 They do ship internationally. In the USA i had to order from Etsy and the shipping was a bit pricey to be honest. Thank you for watching!
nice

So beautiful! I miss my pottery-making days...
Thank you! I love how much she enjoys her making!
I have this palette and I love all the colours they are beautiful and are a joy to use. I like them so much I have ordered some more paints fr essee xx
I my first real paint session with them this week. I was nervous at first using them, but afterwards… really nice! What other colors did you get? Thank you for watching! 🙂
Essee paint is truly marvelous and a joy to work with. I want every color they make. I recently purchased this set and can't get over how gorgeous it is. I love to swatch it just to see the granulation. It also plays really well with other brands like Qor and Daniel Smith.
Nice to know about how they play well with others! I’m actually properly painting with them for the first time now- not disappointed and they definitely have a unique personality!
Thank you for watching!
Lovely video and beautiful paints 😊 It’s a shame that there’s no pigment information available, it would be also useful to know if the paints contain any toxic pigments. I think the first sample is called “Velvet skin”.
Hi, thanks for watching! When searching the website I noticed there was pigment info for certain paints, but not these. I think you are right on the first sample. ta!
Lovely paints and beautiful video, thank you for sharing - it cheered me up. I think I’ll add these paints to my 2025 list, they look great.
Thank you for watching and comments. They really are cheerful paints!
Wow! So beautiful ❤
They really are! Thank you so much for watching.
Im seeing visions of delicious tasting mangos, papayas, strawberries, raspberries, and dragon fruit. 🥭 Truly yummy looking paints. Vintage Loew Cornell, Artec Squirellette 305 brush?
Exactly that! So true. Now I want gelato!
Absolutely delightful to watch! Would love to know more about what you used. Beautiful colors and shapes, love the looseness and evocative touch! Bravo!
Oh thank you for your kind words! This was definitely out of my comfort zone sharing-wise. I used: AGallo wc paints, some very old (recently found in attic) prismacolor pencils, and Sargent wc crayons on Canson XL paper- the ‘whilrlybird’ maple tree seeds are quite abundant this year and take my memory straight back to the playground!
Ah. Ma. Zing. I watched you do that, and still am amazed. 😻💚🩷🤎👩🏻🎨
Thank you for your super kind words! 😊
Special colours. Even if fugitive they have value for providing experience and joy!
Beautiful!
Thank you for watching! Did you see the colors I’ve added?
I‘ve also just received some colours from Della Magna and really love them! Thank you for swatching and mixing - that‘s a nice choice of colours!🎨
Oh wonderful! What have you gotten? Thank you so much for watching!
I got Egyptian Blue, Vivianite, Indigo, Quin Gold, Medici Red, Purple Scarlet, Sap Green, Ultramarine Pink, Cobalt Violet Deep and Caput Mortuum. They are all gorgeous!
Oh wow! That’s quite the haul! Sounds luxe!!! Enjoy!
⭐️
Love the palette - well curated 👏👏👏 The mixes look so natural! 😍
Thanks so much 😊! Luca at Della Magna really helped me choose the main colors based on my inspiration! I loved mixing them and noticed some lovely natural greens. I can’t wait to see what you do with them!
Absolutely ❤ green golds and chartreuse!!! This is excellent to hear I have some perylenes waiting in the wings! W&N Perylene Green is a favorite- not sure I’ve ever mixed it with green gold. I’ll have to try it!
That sounds like a wonderful mix that I'll try myself. Thank you. 😊 I like Burnt Scarlet, too, but PO48 is another that really creates a warm and cozy vibe for me. 😍
I haven't met too many colors I didn't like. 😂 I particularly like green golds and chartreuse mixes. They pair well with perylene violet, deep purple ochre, or a bordeaux. 😍 Loved your mixes.
Thanks for sharing!!
I did not expect the difference between the indigos to be so prominent. Interesting!
These paints are glowing!
They do! I have been using them a few days now, they are certainly unique. Both highly pigment and transparent (although that doesn’t necessarily seem the correct term). An expanded video on the way which I hope will demonstrate just what you’ve said here! 😊
@@context_curated I look forward to seeing it 🙂
Awesome!!!
A pallet after my own heart 😂
Oh! Do you use these? These were purchased to fill gaps in a larger palette, but they are quite nice on their own! Not used them properly yet. Thanks for watching!
@@context_curatedHello! No, I don’t use Daniel Smith, but the colour and pigment choices are similar to what I would use in my “ideal” palette.
Yummies! I love those couple *kissing* 🥳 (and what's a "fugitive"?)
Lol the kissing couples! Good question! Fugitive just means they aren’t lightfast and will fade or change over time, particularly when exposed to UV rays. Not so much an issue for sketchbook work, but exposed finished pieces- it’s a pity to lose your work! 😉
What microphone did you use at the beginning? It’s lovely audio too🎉
Hi! This is just my iphone’s built in microphone! Thank you for watching!
@@context_curated That’s amazing! 🤩
Are the little blocks, wrapped in gold paper, at the start of your video "Full pan" or "Half Pan" ? - their website only gives the colours, so I have no idea how much is in each (I can guess what the "sample Drop" is though)
Yes, these are half pans. I remember when placing the order (back in Dec '23) most pigments were available in full or half pan and sample (I think maybe you couldn't see the option until you placed it in your cart). Hope that 's helpful.
@@context_curated Thank you for your response. That is very helpful. I will subscribe to your channel and click the like and notification buttons. I look forward to seeing more :)
Oh wow! Thank you so much! I appreciate it. : )
Thank you for posting this. They look incredible. If only I could paint :( I only buy water colour gouache to mix inks for my calligraphy.
I have done any more with these yet, but I can tell they are special for sure. I'm sure you can paint! I have seen a couple of instructors out there making fairly large quantity diluted mixes of watercolor pans to use as ink! I've done it myself with tubes of indigo. Thank you for watching! Please check back, I will be making a more thorough video which will also show how these single pigment paints mix! : )
@@context_curated Just saw your Valentine sketch - I hate you! How is it possible to just draw like that. SOoo envious. I am thinking of getting a 'Camera Lucida' - it kind of feels like I would be cheating, but at this stage I don't care. Love your sketch :)
🤣 Such kind words. Firstly, I don’t think a camera lucida is cheating at all. The masters often used optical devices to transfer initial sketches to canvas or wall, etc. re Valentine drawing- it’s wonky and flawed to be sure. I tend to have days when the drawings click and many more days when they are unrecognizable! This happened to be an ‘on day.’ Finally, this little cupid was referenced from a painting (Pilgrimage to Cythera by Watteau). I adore this painting and have been looking at it periodically for 30 years- all that to say- that cupid is etched in my mind. I changed him up a tiny but. ; )
💕
💘
So tell me, between A Gallo and Deep Deep light, which do you prefer and why?
Hi! That's an intriguing question and not sure I can properly answer. I built my two respective palette with very different intentions. With A Gallo I went with a more standard selection with traditional mixing in mind. With Deep Deep Light I just wanted something fun and selected purely on what spoke to me. But in terms of quality, not sure I one is superior. They are both high quality, very easy to rewet and get going. Both highly pigmented and lots of pay off. They both seem smooth, luminous, and have depth- A Gallo has some dramatically granulating colors and Deep Deep Light have some very surprising mixes with interesting effects on paper. So, not sure I answered your question but I thank you for it, gave me a good opportunity to think about each of these. Thank you for watching!
Of course ❤
😊
YES❤🎉
Alright! are you familiar with any of these? There are my first DS colors! Thanks for your comment.
All favorites of mine... 🥰
What’s not to favor, right?! 😊 Thanks for watching!
That’s a nice looking palette 😊
Thank you! I think I am about to get it how I want it. Not sure what I was thinking not including sepia from the get go! Thanks for watching! : )
Jarosite is wonderful!!and so is Vivianite
Love Harbor blue and fig tree 😮!!
Harbor Blue has my heart... Thank you for watching!
I absolutely love these two, they are so gentle and soothing. I'm tempted to build a neutrals palette, these will be there!
Funny!! I said the same thing about Sepia in my last video just uploaded! ❤️
Funny! Great minds eh? That video is in my queue and looking forward to watching. I have some catching up to do.
