TVRM Founder's Day 2024
On a cool September day, the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum would once again open the first weekend of the month with their annual Founder's Day event. For this event, Southern Railway 4501 would be backdated into the fictional Gulf Mobile & Ohio 4382 (the other side Alton). The Mikado would romp up and down to East Chattanooga and back. We'll get all the shots, so sit back, relax, and enjoy!

I'm not entirely sure if the K&T 12 Charter is still a thing, you'd have to ask one of the organizers or TVRM about that.

From what I was able to figure out, the K&T 12 photo charter was canceled. They didn’t have enough ticket sales, mainly due to the high cost of the tickets.

Why is the 4501 now the 4382
TVRM wanted to dress it up this way for Founder's Day.
Southern #4501 has been known to carry different identities for founders day. Last year it was L&N #1593

4501 looks really good as a GM&O/Alton Mikado I'm surprised 4501 has been decked up for a lot of railroads such as GM&O 4382 and N&W 4501! great shots man thanks for sharing!!

If there's 1 thing I didn't expect for 4501's appearance as a GM&O engine was how both sides of it were different.

I learned this from Travis Gordon, who is a crew member at the TVRM, GM&O 4382 (aka Southern 4501) will also pull the following weekend’s Summerville Steam Special while wearing the GM&O decorations.
@@jordonfreeman166 Wow! Sadly I don't think I'll be able to make the trip out to go see it.
It will be 4501 tomorrow. The original plan was to run it as 4382, but due to outside magnets decals had to come off.

I actually kinda dig this scheme, even tho it’s just 4501 with GM&O lettering and numbering, I kinda like it. But if it wasn’t obvious, the plates covering its southern identity need darkened, badly.
@@RandomRedMikadoProductions I believe they used vinyls to cover up the Southern 4501 lettering, so when the lighting hits the engine a certain way it's pretty obvious that they covered up stuff, it was a neat one off though!

I'm pretty sure it's to make sure that nothing goes wrong while the train is running, extra safety measure.
Nicely shot. Rock Spring is about 70 minutes away, so I ride over there or Chickamauga to catch it and chase down to Trion or Summerville about 3 times a year. We ride the train once a year usually in Oct. I need to ride up to Rossville and start there at MacFarland Gap. My favorite part of the paying passenger trip is rolling through Roseville and Trion.
Love the white lined wheels, makes the black look even better. If only we could have 4501 in green again, or maybe 630 in green as well.
Luckily the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad in NC will be painting 630's sister engine 722 in green once they finish the restoration, so it'll be nice to have one running engine of the Southern in green again.

4:35 that Southern Ps-4 looks amazing! They originally came with worthington feedwater heaters, baker valve gear, and smaller tenders. Like this one, some did keep their original factory built appearance while also being modified to use Walschaerts Valve Gear.
