    i hated this book because i actually had high hopes 😭 the most aggravating part to me was quentin, he felt like a shell of a character with lots of issues that go unexplored for the most part. i hate that his plot went absolutely nowhere and i couldn't understand his motivations half of the time. sooo annoying, i think the missed oportunity is what gets me the most lol she could've made something interesting with these characters but they all lacked substance

    Can’t believe I found this book in my neighborhood library box . With other children books. The cover made me find out more about it. I know someone who took advantage of young naive women and he being and older ugly man like Frank. He also lived in New York City, during the early 2000s. He even made a RUclips video about his life experiences with younger fashion models.

    There was absolutely no resolution with ANDERS! 😠 the main characters were very unlikeable yes, but Cleo was on another level. Not only spewing her white feminism whenever it suited her poor me narrative whilst benefitting and living comfortably and being saved (her Visa) by Frank. She never acknowledged how hard he worked. She stabs him in the back by hooking up with Anders or two weeks, feeling no remorse then doesn’t confess, then uses Frank’s pain for her art (making him lie in the soil) for the sake of her art and the book ends without Frank knowing about her indefinite with his best friend, thinking she’s still a wonderful special person?!!! no closure whatsoever (sorry for the Cleo rant) great review! 😂

    The tongue-in-cheek hypocrisy was the most interesting thing to me about Bunny for sure. Even when talking about Bunny talking about pretension in academia, I end up sounding pretentious! It's funny how hard it is to actually tell insight from pseudo-intellectualism and performance when they use the same vocab at that level.

    • @isabelsdigest
      @isabelsdigest 8 месяцев назад

      I agree! Specially as someone in academia, that’s why I really love how Awad balances this critique with the maddening plot. It is hard to distinguish and to talk about it because these systems of power are built to be that trapping. I invite you to read Rouge by Awad if you like her style!

      English is not my first language either, so I completely relate to your hesitant position, I think that due to the writing style and the atmosphere of the book, the plot is conveyed well. Some aspects are too blurry for my taste (and this is definitely not my favorite from the author), but I see why so many people praise it. It has its moments and it definitely leaves you thinking. She posted about Javier Zamora's book on Instagram back in April and how he won a book prize for it before the paperback version was released in June. I forget which award he won. But I was curious about the book and was able to borrow a copy from my local library. It's so moving and emotional. I can't even imagine what he was going through at the time. • @isabelsdigest
      @isabelsdigest 11 месяцев назад

      Transfering is very straight forward (the requirements, the application, etc), but once you get there be focused! Many people will have different backgrounds and experiences that might contaminate yours (in a negative way). So be open for new friends and good people, but also vigilant of those that will distract you from your academic path. I believe that as transfer students we have a different mindset that might clash with others that (maybe) are not that driven. Best of luck and thanks for watching!

    Over my whole life, I have struggled with my identity, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, etc. It wasn't until the pandemic that I began exploring those topics and not just pushing them off to the side and acting like they didn't exist. In 2021, I fully accepted the fact I am latina instead of denying it like I had for so many years, even though every nickname and insult I had ever recieved was related to it, taco, little burrito, catapiller eyebrows, etc. I began learning Spanish and trying to connect more to that side of my family. I look forward to seeing all this book has and the experience so many go through. I fully agree things like this need to be taught in schools because as it is now, so many people are dehumanized by the general public and I feel learning their experience and why they are doing what they are would help fight against that.

    • @isabelsdigest
      @isabelsdigest 11 месяцев назад

      Thanks for sharing your experience, I believe part of the dehumanization we learn since a young age comes throuhg language and education. That is why it is so important to have stories like these in school, and to resist other messages that promote exclusion. I wish you the best of lucks with your Español. Nunca es tarde.
