I got one of these a few years ago for Christmas as well, and it rules. I didn't love carrying it in my pocket, so I made a belt pouch for it! I used it every day for nearly a year. It's slim enough that you kind of forget that it's there, but it works well enough that you remember it when you need it. Also, that big flat head is the perfect pry bar, and nobody will ever change my mind about that!

Without the scissors, this is the mult-tool I've carried since it came out. The blade shape is a sheepsfoot. The blade is indexed (or close to being indexed with the scissors). Fun game/learning experience: Every time you have to go find or hunt through the tools, switching sides, on your multi-tool to perform a task score against it. Every time you put away your multi-tool and go get an actual tool to complete your task, score against the mult-tool. You're carrying around a multi-tool that doesn't perform the tasks you need it to perform and slows or prevents you from accessing or using the tools you do perform. I see/know lots of people who fix the multi-tool case to their belt every morning, use the mult-tool once a day, leave it off on the weekends, hunt it down to use it for anything and everything and when you ask them about it they say "Yeah, it's great. I use it for everything." More isn't always better. In this regard, the one-handed operation with the limited number of tools is just the best. Unlike other multi-tools, this one is easier and more accessible than even your wallet or car keys. The package opener is superior to either the knife or car keys or a box cutter, IMO, as the flat tip and short edge actually make it difficult to cut whatever is inside the packaging. All the other multi-tools (of which I have many) are too many tools, too heavy, and too folded away for something I should be using an actual wrench or shears or screwdriver for. The only complaint I have is that I wish they used something a little "more stainless" than 420. If you or the knife spend a lot of time in water/salt water without regular lubrication or cleaning, it can start to break down. I count myself among the above mis-users of multi-tools and I own many, many other Leatherman and other products. I've probably used this one in a scant few years, far and away more than I've used the others, which I've had for decades, combined. Probably their best/most convenient/most useful product.

handle shape actually a lot makes sense. there are a lot of kitchen knives that have "D" shaped handles which fill out your hand nice like a round handle...but beecause they're D shaped it keeps the knife from twisting in your hand as you're making cuts

Midgards Messer has several with over 5" blade, and I have them all. I only have the Rajah I and the original Espada XL in micarta from CS, since I only collect 5"+ blades that are high end. I am looking for a Maxon Vortex in Timascus (sold out), but they have other, less expensive versions of this 5" knife. Except for certain CS, Maxon, and Midgards MMesser, I don't know of anyone who makes quality 5" plus blades. Please let me know if you find any others.

I've had this model for about 8 years now and beat on it pretty hard. Only complaint is that the liner lock has worn pretty badly and allowed it to develop a small amount of blade play. Prior to retiring from the military in 2011 I carried another variation of the M16 for several years as a back up to the Benchmade they issued to me. Quite a few people carried them on deployment because 1) they were relatively cheap and 2) they were readily available at the PX/BX. Chain saw files work pretty well for sharpening those serrations btw.
